This is an amazing location to stay, with the Madison River just a short walk away and convenient drives to West Yellowstone and Henry's Fork. The owner is extremely helpful, providing ample information about the house and its surroundings before your arrival. The property is equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable and enjoyable stay!
This cabin was a great place to experience the old school essence of Montana. Having been born in the state and having grown up through high school years many decades ago but not back since, it reminded me of my uncles den, a true cowboy if there ever was one. The cabin had every modern convenience you need while still leaving a feeling of roughing it without really doing so. The coffee maker without the K-cups so to speak. We visited, played cards, and for the most of us spent little time in front of the TV although it was there with plenty to watch if we'd wanted to. The ability to walk a few hundred yards and be fishing the great Madison for trout was a huge plus and we spent a lot of time doing just that. Even though it happened to rain most of the days we were there, no one cared. If you are an angler, you are only 5 miles down the road from Galloup's Slide Inn, one of the great fly shops and fishing guide outfits in the region (go ahead, type that name into the search bar in YouTube). Get out with one of their guides then walk out front and fish on your own! Mark, the owner, is a great guy. I probably talked to him on the phone 4 or 5 times. If you're a good person, he's a great person. If you're not, well, I wouldn't... If you really want to get away from your everyday life and decompress, you can not beat a vacation here! Enjoy!
If you like game on the walls...this is your place. The upstairs has 2 bedrooms and a nice, large, open air, high ceiling, living room and kitchen area. There is one nice bathroom upstairs. It is obvious that the owner (Mark) lives here at times as there are clothes and dry good foods in the closets. The downstairs/ basement bedrooms are finished, but much of the basement is not. The downstairs bath is part of the laundry area. As a place to crash after a long day of fishing...this is a cool spot. The place is clean. We would stay here again.
The upstairs is great. The creek running through the property is nice and the river as pictured is right across the street. It location is quiet beautiful.
After staying the first night I woke up to a bad odor in the basement bedroom. My Niece and Nephew had not yet arrived and the only other room left was in the basement. I did not want them to suffer as I did. Asked the owner if they could bring a trailer. He blew a fuse accusing me of trying to pull a scam. That day we went to Yellowstone Park. While we were gone he sent the Care Taker to the Cabin. She went in without our knowledge or permission. She reported she did not smell anything. I met her and she is a very nice lady and probably didn't smell anything because we had all the widows open and fans running. When talking to the owner he again said there is no smell in the cabin and if I have a problem with that I should go meet the Care Takers husbands he said You cant miss him he is 6' 10. After that comment my daughter was terrified the rest the night that some large man was going to harm us. When we returned we found a dead mouse at the bottom of stairs. Then inspected the basement rooms a little closer. There is rat poison in every corner and window, my room had rat poison under the bed along with a large amount of rat feces. My Nephew and I could not get the smell out and determined there must dead decaying mice in the closet between the two bedrooms. This room was locked and I was not going to call the owner again. The sliding glass door to patio is covered with plastic and full of flies. We had to pull weeds around the fire pit to use it.
Had everything we needed
My family and I stayed here for our Yellowstone trip. It’s a close drive to West Yellowstone and the host is a great help to get situated. Nice views. Cabin is older than expected but clean and spacious.
Short walk to the river
Cabin was clean, comfortable and well equipped. It would be great for fishermen or hunters. I would have appreciated window treatment to keep out the sun , so weary sleepers could sleep later. Communication with owner was excellent.
My 2 brothers and myself as well as son and nephew stayed here. It was perfect! Well situated with easy river access. Convient to West Yellowstone and Ennis. Very comfortable accommodations. Cool inside during the day and warm and cozy at night. Owner Mark is an awesome host. I would highly recommend this property.
Great getaway in Montana..close to Yellowstone national park but far away from the crowds. Great views, cozy cabin, and Mark was very easy to work with and very knowledgeable on things to do in the area. The little stream that runs through property is very neat and makes for great photos
Great access to Yellowstone National Park - close enough to visit each day and far enough to get away from the crowds. Peaceful stream on property and foot access to Madison River for fly fishing. Plenty of bedrooms and well stocked with everything a family needed.
We were staying here in the aftermath of the 2022 Yellowstone floods. The park was closed when we arrived, but Mark allowed us to extend the reservation 3 days and share the place with him. He cooked for us (deer tenderloin and ribs) and showed great hospitality. Plus he is very gregarious and personable. The home itself is a rustic log cabin on one of the best fishing rivers in the US. You are about 40 minutes from the West Yellowstone entrance. The water was high and muddy durning our visit but I still managed to catch 2-3 fish per hour. A local guide told me the best spot for me to fish on the river was to walk out the front door and start fishing, working upstream- no vehicle needed. All in all a great, relaxing time.
The property was gorgeous and the house was incredibly clean, neat and cozy! The owner was extremely personable and easy to reach, making our stay even better!
We enjoyed fishing right across the road. The kitchen was well organized and it was easy to find everything we needed to prepare our meals. My 1.5 year old son loved the little stream that flows through the property. We also saw a bull moose in velvet right outside the kitchen window! Overall would return and recommend for a rustic family vacation.
Madison river is steps away from the front door.
The listing was accurate, Mark was very communicative, and had several local recommendations for local places according to our interests. The property had a great location for the remote Montana cabin we were looking for. Will definitely call back if we return to the area!
