Stayed Aug 20, 2024Mercantile cabin is centrally located and easy drives to all Black Hills attractions. House is cozy and nice pool and hot tubs were a bonus. We would do it again.

Stayed Jul 2, 2023Our stay at Mercantile was amazing. Three families, including two families of four and one family of three from across the US met at this lovely cabin in Lead, South Dakota. The cabin was beautiful and we had everything we needed. If you are seeking a quiet place nestled within nature, this is the place to stay.

Stayed Jun 25, 2023Overall the cabin is just fine. We truly did have a good time. From the looks of the pictures I thought it would be a bit more private. There are actually cabins on both sides and are fairly close. I could see the neighbors in the windows and they of course could see us. Not exactly the privacy I wanted but perhaps that is partially my fault for not checking. The washer was just plain dirty. I cleaned it the best I could before using it. And the smell was simply awful. Front load washer. The floors weren't very clean. There is not a lot of places to set suitcases except on the floor and no dressers or closets to hang clothes. The pool is nice but the deck area was pretty dirty. The hot tub was nice but you are responsible for the chemicals, which was fine, but I could not get the chlorine level to read correctly. Frustrating. Would I stay again, probably not because I like my privacy. The other things do not actually make or break a place so I would say it is an average place to stay.

Stayed Jun 16, 2023The house was very comfortable. The beds were nice. We enjoyed the hot tub though better instructions on how to care for it would have been good. The neighborhood was good, nothing too noisy or crazy. Our family had a great time in the hills.

Stayed Sep 2, 2022The property was a great location. Pool on site was smaller then advertised so it got full. The house needs more sweeping and mopping. The wii wasnt working. The pictures made the place look bigger.

Stayed Oct 14, 2021The location was is a nice place. Our trip was intentionally in between summer and ski season. It was in great condition. The entire community, minus a few cabins, are rentals. The rec center is a nice bonus for larger groups. Deadwood is definitely geared towards tourists. Lots of gaming and souvenirs type places. To get away from tourists type attractions we took some easy trips around SD. You can go lots of places within 60 minutes. I struggle to find the right words. We enjoyed our stay, but there was something off. Our past stays at rentals we find notes/instructions that say please enjoy your stay. Here notes said Do this or you will be fine $xx. The hot tub, the grill. Clean and Fill up the hot tub or be fined. If it's dirty, you will fined. If you damage the cover,, you will be fined.. Use the hose to fill it, with no place to hook up the hose. Clean the grill or be fined. Very sterile. It made us feel that no matter how tidy and neat we left it, we would be fined for something. This was our impression. Others may not feel that way. The one item we did not find until the last day was the guest book. It was under things in a drawer. That is something as travelers we like to read first to get ideas for our stay in a new town. It only had 2 entries in it. Really nothing bad to say except it didn't feel that welcoming. But I'm sure the rental company can fix that easily. If you are heading here, highly suggest you write all codes down. We relied on the email on our phone, but had no cell service. We drove into town get better signal, grab the codes and then went back. Once the weather cleared up, we had better cell service on the deck. Views are great. Have a hotntub soak with your morning coffee and watch the sun rise and the deer graze. Enjoy a wood fire as the sun retires for the day. Enjoy the absem

Stayed Sep 3, 2021This was a nice sized house for 4 adults and two children. Would have made use of the top bunk had there been a side rail. Enjoyed a fire one night and the hot tub on the other.
