In its post-war heyday, the Barlow Cabin—on the route of the historic Barlow Road in Government Camp—hosted everyone from Scandinavian royalty to the world’s top ski racers.

Movie star Rock Hudson stopped in for a drink during the filming of Bend in the River (1952). The cabin was built in 1946 by Timberline Lodge’s first publicist, George Henderson, as a compact, convivial base camp and gathering place for skiers and climbers and, eventually, his own children and grandchildren. Now it's your turn to immerse yourself in Mt Hood history!

This rustic cabin offers Pendleton blankets, down comforters, a cozy wood-burning fireplace, a furnace and now air conditioning! There is also a smart TV with Hulu and WiFi to stream. You can also hook up your iPod / iPhone to the stereo to play your choice of music. The Crosstown Trail, with its links to the Westleg Road and Glade and Alpine ski trails, is a short walk / ski away. Walk to dinner in Government Camp or stay in to cook in the small but well-equipped kitchen. On the walls are photos and memorabilia from the 1930s and ’40s depicting Government Camp’s emergence as a recreation destination. While you are visiting, be sure to page through George’s own Mount Hood memoir; Lonely On The Mountain.

The living room, kitchen, small bathroom with shower, and kids’ bedroom (bunk beds) are downstairs. Upstairs are three small bedrooms and a half-bath. One upstairs bedroom has twin beds, one has a queen bed, and the third bedroom has one queen bed and one twin. Capacity is limited to parties of eight or fewer.

Guests are welcome to charge their electric vehicle at our conveniently located Level 2 car charger. Please note that the Barlow Cabin is not wheelchair accessible, and pets are not allowed.

It was all good, it’d be nice if there was at least a dryer for clothes, but all is fine, water heater for the sinks maybe wasn’t working or turned off. Other than that 9/10

Fantastic, comfortable, historic cabin with great kitchen and beds. Everyone from grandparents to teens to toddler had a great time. Restaurants and stores an easy walk away, multiple snow options, quiet and beautiful.

Great cabin in the heart of Government Camp, with easy access to the mountain trails for snowshoeing and the village for fun. The home is very well appointed with well stocked kitchen games, smart TV, Wi-Fi, wood-burning fireplace and great gas heater for back up. Thank you we really enjoyed our stay!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We come to this lovely historic cabin every year for the first weekend in December! It is a great way to get in the holiday spirit! Warm and cozy inside while the snow falls outside. Easy walk to town but also lots of back roads for walking the dog. New keyless entry makes it super easy!

Very sweet cabin, not a lot of room to do more than sleep and sit around (ie. Not much table space for games) but its incredibly close to all the shops and cafes in town. also incredibly close to ski lifts and ski bowl for year round activities. Biggest challenge was that the check in process was not provided clearly through VRBO beforehand, and they were separately emailed which wasnt expected. All around a wonderful place to stay.

This is a well-kept cabin that was built in 1945 or so. The furniture etc. is all relatively old but comfortable. The mattresses on the bed were comfortable with plenty of extra blankets for when it gets cold. Overall, a very nice place to stay in the area and would recommend it as well as stay there again when we're in the area. There were some negative comments about the property managers, but they could not have been nicer when we saw them. And they responded to any questions we had. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the tools you need to cook with as well as plenty of dishes and glasses etc. There is also a very good grill on the porch for grilling. The driveway is a bit steep so just need to use some caution there. It is advertised to sleep 9 and there are certainly enough beds for that no doubt. There is a bit of road noise from the side of the house that faces route 26. The small town of Government Camp is within walking distance with several bars and restaurants and places to buy a few goods that you might need. The only downside is the bathrooms. There is one small bathroom upstairs that has a toilet and a small sink. And another small bathroom downstairs with one shower. So, I'm unsure if nine people were staying there how well that would work out. The water was very hot, but I don't know if that would last for 9 showers in a row ?.

Stayed here for a weekend with friends on the mountain. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Air conditioning downstairs during a warm month helped during the day. Well maintained property.
