Moran, Michigan
This is not your ordinary vacation rental. If you need to be on the phone or the computer, this is not the place for you. We do provide a TV for watching movies. Twenty miles north of the Mackinaw Bridge, we are in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest on a small inland lake. Yet we are close enough to freeway and local attractions, to return to civilization whenever the mood strikes.
Please note: Read through the Rental Contract for more details on this listing.
The lake is a shallow lake good for kayaking,(3 kayaks are included as is a rowboat), canoeing, and fishing. We are surrounded by forest and wildlife. It is not uncommon to see wolves, bears, and on a rare occasion moose.
The lake has 3 pair of nesting loons, that fill the air with the pristine sound of nature. Great spot for birding. If you love birds you will be in paradise. Eagles, hummingbirds, pileated woodpeckers, kingfishers, warblers, more types of water fowl than I can list here.
North Country Trail traverses the area and is excellent for hiking. ATV trails are also near by. If you enjoy biking cross country, you will love it here.
Lake Michigan Beach off US-2 is about 20 minutes away, if you want to enjoy swimming on a beautiful sandy shoreline. Tacquamenon Falls are about a hour north, as is Whitefish Point. The ferry to Mackinaw Island is a half an hour south. Sault Ste. Marie and the Soo Locks, are 45 min. northeast.
This is the place to really escape. Easy access on good roads. Very few houses on this thousand acre lake, as 75% of the shoreline is owned by the national forest.

Quintessential up North cabin - a perfect, semi-rustic getaway. Cabin and location are perfect.
The cabin was just like the pictures! Rustic, charming, and had everything you needed to keep all guests satisfied. Coffee on the porch every morning, games, movies, bonfires, or kayaking in the evening. Centrally located to go out and explore different experiences each day. One suggestion is to add or bring a pillow top to each bed as they were quite firm/hard. Thanks Michigan for a great time!
Absolutely amazing cabin in the middle of no where. My family and I had a great time fishing and kayaking. My kids fed chipmunks right out of their hand and a friendly female duck would come by a couple times a day and my daughter would feed her too. Our time at the cabin was great.
Loved this property. Host was great & goes the extra mile
Out stay was amazing. We stayed during a record high heat wave during the 4th of July week and the cabin was cool and relaxing. This cabin accommodated two families of four and made for memories to last a life time. You can relax, fish, hike, and even jump right on the near by trails for side-by-sides or snowmobiles. Conveniently located just outside St Ignace you are just a short jump away to Mackinac Island, the Locks, Whitefish Point, and many more. We loved the Dunes Beach nearby. This cabin is one that you can enjoy time and time again. Thanks Scott for your awesome hospitality.
The pictures and descriptions of this gem do not even come close to how wonderful it is. Everything is top-notch, great location, very secluded.
You will not be disappointed with this cabin…one of the nicest that we have ever stayed at. Cabin is located in a secluded woods and lake setting, yet close enough to town, tourist attractions, and hiking trails. Did not see much wildlife during our last week September stay, but did see swans and ducks come up to the lake’s shoreline. Tried to feed the birds, but the squirrel scarf down the bird seed in the feeders (same problem I have at home). Cabin interior is cozy with many collectible woodmen and taxidermy items. Also, everything in the cabin is top notch including the appliances and cooking wear. We did have great cell service with internet access with our T-Mobil service while in the cabin. For going out to eat, I would recommend King Fish Market in Moran and the Buckhorn in Trout Lake… Overall, I would highly recommend this cabin and give it 5 stars!
Very quiet and peaceful. Loons calling and trumpeter swans swimming by. Filled my expectations of what a cabin should be, had a wonderful time there!
We are so happy we picked this log cabin to stay in. It was perfect and was located close to everything we wanted to see. Mackinaw Island, Soo Locks, Tahquamenon falls and Pictured Rock. Loved listening to the Loons at night, so beautiful. We had some resident Wood Ducks with their family, a squirrel and a chipmunk that came up to the cabin everytime they saw us. Very entertaining. Thank you for the wonderful experience and we look forward to coming back..
Peaceful getaway, but close to UP tourist attractions and docks to Mackinaw Island. Loved being in the middle of a forest and on the lake for kayaking.
Enjoyed our vacation at this beautiful cabin. The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed getting away from it all and the peace and quiet at the cabin. We were hoping to see a bear or moose but we settled for deer, a porcupine and the wonderful sounds of the loons on the lake in the morning and evening. Even though the cabin is secluded, you are still close to many of the attractions in the eastern UP. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us! We highly recommend to others!
My wife and I had a great week at the cabin! Restful, relaxing, and close to great things when we wanted to get around in the UP.
