Meadows of Dan, Virginia
There's no place like home, except here!
Welcome to the Hillside Hideaway. Our newest location is located just two miles off the Blue Ridge Parkway onto Route 58 in the quaint little town of Meadows of Dan, Virginia. Fish, hike, picnic and more, all from our cabin. We are less than 5 miles away from Chateau Morrisette, several other wineries, two golf courses, Mabry Mill and Lovers Leap...there is always plenty to do.
When you walk in the door, expect a little surprise. This 1920's rustic cabin isn't just comfortable, clean and cozy with all the amenities of home, it's classic! From the furniture to the linens, you'll find everything fresh! Less than a minute from the Blue Ridge Parkway, our cabin is perfect for your stay in the mountains. Some of our favorite characteristics of the cabin are the creaky wood floors, original lead glass windows, large stone fireplace and wrap around porch with a picture perfect view of the historic Cockram Mill pond, where the Dan River Queen once circled. The floors and wood walls are original to our newly furnished home with new, fluffy towels and 100% cotton linens. The cabin has new appliances and dishes with a vintage feel and the kitchen is fully stocked with service for eight. The dining room table seats six to eight comfortably. You’ll find fresh milk, OJ and assorted cereal ready for you when you arrive. And, as with all our Buffalo Mountain Getaway properties, our signature Keurig Brew Station will be stocked with coffee, cocoa and tea.
Although we prefer relaxing on the porch, hiking the walking trails or fishing in the pond, the high speed internet does allow for easy working/remote learning. 42” smart tv in living room armoire. Landline also present if needed.
The deck covers three sides of the house with only one step up access to the main level. Since we are pet friendly, we also have a small fenced area for them to utilize.
Head upstairs to find the sleeping quarters. You'll pass through the small bunk room with two bunks to reach the master bedroom. The romantic master bedroom includes a queen size bed, cellphone charger, small television with Netflix and Prime Video and a great view. The bathroom is on the main level with a tub/shower and laundry for your convenience.
Please note: due to its age, the home is not wheelchair accessible. The stairs are narrow. My 6’2” husband needs to duck at the top. At 5’2”, I don’t.
Our pond is fully exposed, so smaller children may not be safe. Please keep this in mind. Feel free to catch and release all the fish you want, just remember to bring your own poles.
You'll have the cabin all to yourself.
We are just a phone call away!
Rural area with woods to explore, pond to swim and fish and a porch to relax.
Verizon has decent cell service, but AT&T DOES NOT.
Also, our local internet provider, Century Link, can sometimes be finicky. If that happens, we can send a link to help reset it. WE HATE IT, but it's all that is available in our area.
Just a few reminders:
1 - Pets allowed with permission, MAX 2 dogs, sorry NO cats.
2 - Absolutely NO Smoking
3 - Please do not move furniture
4 - Keep it clean. When you leave it should look the same as you entered, with the exception of bed linens and towels
5 - Remember it's our home, so treat it with respect
6 - The grill is charcoal.
7 - IMPORTANT: Landline phone available for local and 911 calls, as well as inbound calls. Number is shown after booking. Please share with your friends and families should they need to call. Verizon has excellent service at the Cabin, but AT&T is NOT. WiFi calling works well if you have that feature.

Fantastic cabin. Great atmosphere. Very comfortable. Will definitely stay again.
My husband and our grown kids came up for a family Thanksgiving with relatives in the area. We had a little adventure getting the gas fireplace lit, but got really good support from the POC and got cozy quickly. The stairs do have the low ceiling as described, but my daughter’s 6’8” friend was able to get up and down w/o issue. The induction burner in the kitchen and quality cookware was a pleasant surprise. Overall, we had a lovely visit.
Nice secluded cabin that was well stocked.
Tucked away in the mountains, this quaint, absolutely adorable cabin sits, with several other cabins in sight. This cabin is the last on road, so extremely private. The only complaint is the road noise. Sitting on the wonderful porch, watching the beaver play in the water, and truck & car noises break the magic. Wonderful touches in cabin & great communication with host. Labels on switches, remotes etc would be helpful.
What an amazing little pice of history yet all of the comfy amenities you want on a getaway. Communication was nothing short of exceptional, bed was super comfy, towels were plush, the decor was a dream for us!! We will most definitely be back and this will def be one our favorite places to revisit in the future!
We stayed 3 days and nights at this wonderfully located cabin. Everything was AS ADVERTISED. WiFi, air conditioning, fire pit, dog friendly, private pond access...everything. We had such a good time watching our dog play in the open yard while we drank tea, and coffee on the porch. Gorgeous views of the sunset over the pond, which is quite an experience. Overall my wife and I were very pleased, and even overly surprised about how accommodating the house was. Will indeed book again in the future.
Very quaint cabin nearly 100 years old. Decorated very nicely. Great assortment of games. We loved playing scrabble and uno. Too much to do to watch tv. There is one but we never turned it on. We caught fish in the pond - bass and bream. The head clearance on the stairs to the beds is VERY tight. This is noted on the listing. I’m 5’8” and going up ducking a bit is fine. More challenging going down. Cabin is close to the main road but the noise is very very mild. Super convenient to blue ridge parkway (loved Mabry’s mill) and meadows of Dan. Great for our short getaway.
Small cozy cabin with nice porch to enjoy the cool evening breeze.
This little cabin is beautiful! The view was amazing!! When we arrived they had the fireplace going and it was so cozy inside! The beds was soft and the bunk beds was a hit! The kids played board games they had in the cabin! The next morning we watched 2 foxes outside the cabin walk away across the still frozen pond…it was a cool experience!!! We really enjoyed this home! I highly recommend you try it !!!
Very beautiful cabin next to a lake. No grocery nearby, but is close to a winery.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated as well as very clean cabin. The lovely touches like coffee, juice, milk, cereal, and messages on the chalk board were so welcoming! The view from the front windows was breathtaking. The road to the cabin from highway 58 was a bit bumpy and we were surprised that the highway was actually just up the hill from the place. But we soon got used to the sounds of the vehicles going by. Make sure to bring groceries with you as there aren’t many places to eat nearby. We did enjoy eating at Jane’s Restaurant and grabbing sandwiches at Poor Farmer’s Market though. Fairy Stone State Park is about 30 minutes away and we enjoyed kayaking on the lake as well as going on some of the trails. The Blue Ridge Parkway is very close and a visit to Floyd, VA is well worth the trip. We so enjoyed our vacay here!
