8 Minnesota Stays for the Adventurous Soul
This lovely yurt is a fabric tent with wood ray ceiling structure and folding lattice wall structure that give the very enclosure a calming restful effect. Situated up the hill in the woods from Armstrong Lake, the yurt offers privacy and seclusion with full lake access. There are two fully separate bedrooms with queen beds and a sleeping loft with twin beds A huge dining table offers space for wonderful meals and card & board games, projects and crafts. A wood stove can provide ample heat for those cold spring or fall evenings or the dead of winter. A wonderful site for a quilting gathering or a yoga retreat. The full kitchen has a sink with cold water cooler (to be filled from outdoor spigot), a refrigerator, a stove with oven, a microwave oven, a toaster and a coffeemaker. Hot water showers, lavatory sinks, and latrine toilets are down the hill in the bathhouse. Like our other cabins at Wilderness Wind, the Eagle Yurt does NOT have a toilet. The shared living and dining area has two sofas a large dining table and 8 chairs to accommodate meetings and gatherings and there is a wood stove for heat or atmosphere. A deck offers a view of the lake and slivers of sunset light thru the trees. Yurt guests have full lake privileges including use of canoes, kayaks, the lakeshore swimming and seating area, the lakeshore firepit for bonfires. There is a Chickadee gathering space down by the lake for meetings, sing alongs, exercise classes, sewing groups, group gatherings that can be rented additionally (or used freely if not already in use by a group). It has tables and chairs and awesome views in all directions of the lake and the surrounding woods. The yurt is large enough to sleep six on beds. There is one parking space up the hill from the yurt on Bradach rd. Additional parking available down the access road near the cabins. It it is also warm and intimate enough to be comfortable for a couple of couples, as a romantic luxury but rustic getaway for a honeymoon or anniversary couple, or even for a single person who wants to experience the respite and unearthly glow of a canvas yurt and its geometric structure as the light changes with the time of day and the weather. The Eagle Yurt is like nowhere you have ever stayed before!
We had a wonderful stay with our two grandchildren. Since another family member was staying at one of the lakeside cabins, we really appreciated the Chickadee Landing gazebo as a central place for meals. The beach was the highlight for the boys.
I rented the yurt for a long weekend with friends and we had a great time!
We were excited for our first stay in a yurt and it didn’t disappoint! The accommodations were great. The kids loved kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. The adults loved the peaceful and relaxed vibes, while supporting a great cause supporting rye Chicago Voyagers. We’d love to book again in the future.
Wilderness Wind was a great place to show our teen-age grandchildren, who are bicultural, the place we moved to Minnesota for, and the place their father learned to enjoy from the age of 2. Kayaks, S’mores, big mosquitos, and loons were part of our visit. Not the best place for elderly grandparents, but at ages 83&85, we managed without any unpleasant consequences. We even canoed diagonally across the lake and back without assistance.
We had a really great time staying at the Eagle Yurt. The only real confusion we had was towards the lack of sheets on the beds, and it was a bit difficult to reach the five gallon bucket from the sink- it looked like the last people to stay there hadn’t bothered to dump it.
My kids, mom and her partner stayed here for a weekend. The property is beautiful. For reference- there is no running water to the yurt. They do provide 5 gallon water jugs for drinking. The dish wash station is in front of the bathhouse. The screens coverings for the doors had some holes in it from previous guests so we had to watch when we could keep the doors open or not. It would be nice to use some screen repair tape to fix the holes. This did not take away from our experience. We would definitely come back
comfortable, clean, fun and memorable
Great place for adventure. The weather was cool and it rained off and on but we found many things to do! Shopping in Ely was fun, great restaurants and local bars too. We rented an ATV and ventured out on the trails. Very friendly people in town. The yurt stayed warm with the wood stove going. We did not have water available in the yurt and there were not any towels provided. So next time we will be better prepared. The host was great!
We loved the way this yurt was set up to feel so private. They offered more than expected including canoes and kayaks, fishing poles and bait. Firewood and kindling. Jay, the host, was so kind in checking in to ensure we had everything we needed. Loved the proximity to lots of great hiking spots.
The property was wonderful, just as described. The host went out of his way to make us feel welcomed and comfortable, even helped with our flat tire! We will definitely recommend this property to our friends and family!
The yurt is just the right amount of seclusion with electricity and access to showers (down the hill). The Wilderness Wind property is rustic and relaxing. If you are looking for a good place to reconnect with your family- this is the place. Lake Armstrong is great for swimming, canoeing and Kayaking. Our teenager loved being out on the water and just relaxing. We loved the sense of community our host Jay fosters with around the the fire pit each night if you choose to join in. Imagine our surprise when our teen asked us if we could book again for next year! We will be back and recommending this property including the yurt and other rustic cabins to our friends.
We have always enjoyed Armstrong lake.
The yurt was so clean and surprisingly bug free, the guests were fun and the beach was clean and super kid friendly!
Rustic and delightful with a great host. The host Checked in with us even before we arrived and every day while we were there. Made a campfire every night and regaled us with local stories. shared with us background of the non-profit that owns the property and how they change lives. We would definitely stay there again.
