Summary:

Morning fog lifts to reveal blue Pacific horizons -- this is ocean-view living at its best. Soak in the hot tub as the sun dips below the Pacific. Bring your pup -- dogs love the bluff trails here. Room for 4 in this 0-bedroom home. A short walk from the Sea Ranch Lodge. Miles of bluff-top trails and hidden beaches are yours to explore. Whale spouts on the horizon, hawks riding the updrafts -- nature puts on a show from every window.

The Space:

Nestled atthe edge of the Redwood forest with a view of the ocean through the trees, you'll enjoy a peaceful rest in the heart of The Sea Ranch. The home has kept its character intact, with original redwood finishes and efficient cabin layout. Spend your morning sipping coffee, gazing at the blue-water ocean view and listening to the forest come alive. Start with an early morning hot tub or breakfast on the deck. Cabin 55 features a full kitchen with a dishwasher and outdoor propane grill custom outfitted for those who love to cook. The hot tub on the deck is made for two. This is the perfect place for a couple to kick back and enjoy all that The Sea Ranch, the coastal mountains and the Northern California coast have to offer. The Walk-In Cabin neighborhood is so quiet and private it only takes moments to realize all you can hear is the ocean, the wind in the redwoods, songbirds and an occasional turkey.

The Walk-In Cabins sit close to hiking trails, the Ohlsen Recreation Center, Stengel Beach, and The Sea Ranch Golf Links, but are private and serenely scattered in the Redwoods. Truly the epitome of “Living with the Land'. More outdoor and cultural activities can be found south and north of The Sea Ranch along the coast, such as the Arena Theater, the B Bryan Wildlife Preserve, Fort Ross State Historic Park, and Point Arena Light House. Gualala offers groceries, art galleries, and restaurants. With over Sea Ranch's 50 miles of trails, guests can hike deep into the redwoods, out along the bluff overlooking the ocean, or picnic at the hot spot on the Gualala River. Enjoy a round of golf at the Scottish style, 18-hole course, or a tennis match at one of six courts. For families with children, the Children’s Environmental Play Park offers a wide range of activities. With access to all three shared recreation centers, you can relax in the pools, use the saunas, play basketball, pickleball or volleyball. Guests with a dog will want to check out the dog park on Deerfield Rd. It has a large fenced-in area covered in wood chips, with plenty of toys, water, and shade to share a wild run and romp! Mind the 6’ leash law elsewhere on the Ranch. You’re sure to meet many friendly local dog owners.

The Neighborhood:

Stretching along ten miles of the Sonoma Coast, The Sea Ranch offers a rare blend of coastal wilderness and thoughtfully designed homes. Nearby highlights include The Sea Ranch Lodge restaurant, lounge and café (a short 4-minute walk), Shell Beach tidepools (7-minute walk), Black Point headland trails (2-minute drive). Between the coastal trails, tidepools, heated pools, and The Sea Ranch Lodge's restaurant, you could fill a week without leaving the community. Stock up in Gualala, just 10 minutes south, where you'll find grocery stores, restaurants, a hardware store, and gas. Bodega Bay is a beautiful drive for fresh seafood.

Getting Around:

Plan for a 2.5-hour drive from San Francisco (Highway 101 to Highway 1). If flying, Santa Rosa's Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS) is the closest option at about 90 minutes east. You'll want a car here -- the winding coastal roads are half the adventure.

Other Things to Note:

Parking allowed in front of the cabin for loading and unloading Long-term parking located a short walk down the road

Children under eight not recommended (bunk beds over the stairs) High-speed Wi-Fi provided allows you to stream your favorite shows and movies on your laptop or the 42” Smart TV.

Sea Ranch has three recreation centers with heated pools, saunas, and tennis courts. Access passes are provided with your stay -- check availability upon arrival as these shared amenities can be popular during peak times.

Exterior lighting is minimal by design to preserve the stunning dark sky -- bring a flashlight for evening walks and enjoy some of the best stargazing on the California coast.

Whale watching season runs from December through April -- grab the binoculars and watch for gray whale spouts from your window. Spring (April-June) brings a wildflower show across the coastal meadows -- lupine, poppies, and iris paint the landscape. Summer (June-September) brings the warmest days and longest light. Morning fog is common along the coast -- it usually burns off by midday.

Up to 1 dog are welcome. Please keep dogs on leash on trails and clean up after them.

Everything was great. The cabin, skylights, pool, sauna, even though there was a storm one night it was still wonderful.

we found mouse droppings under the sink and in the food dishes. it was reported to vacasa but so far have not had any significant communication from them. we had to inspect constantly, wash all dishes and surfaces before use and it totally spoilt our stay in the cabin. a mouse was seen in the bathroom whilst in there, and in the living room. we are requesting a refund of one nights fees. please advise. we will be reviewing our stay in this cabin which is a health and safety hazard. we do not appreciate being told that mice are commonplace; we have stayed at sea ranch in multiple cabins and this is the first time to experience this.

For a unit that cost this much and has so many strict rules/guidelines, we expected to show up to a perfect unit. We're okay with not so perfect, but this was totally unacceptable. Especially for our anniversary weekend. Don't waste your time with the gas furnace. Use the one behind the living room chair by the kitchen.A major deep clean was needed. We were super uncomfortable during our stay. Some issues include: Musty/pet smell. There was dust hanging from walls, large cobwebs and dust in the skylight above the the bed, the bedding had a clump of dust and hair in addition to traces of animal hair. The linens in the linen shelf were also a mixed bag of cleanliness. There was CHEWED GUM on the linen shelf. DISGUSTING. The bathroom towels seemed new but never washed so they were shedding on us. There's no washer/dryer in the unit, so we couldn't fix these issues ourselves. The showerhead was grimy and had build up and the shower door track was disgusting. The kitchen items we used had to be cleaned before use. The lamps in the living room have a button on the head to turn on, and the lamp heads were also grimy to the touch. The living room throw blankets were unwashed, smelly, and had hair on/in them. The bathroom window was left open so it was freezing and took forever to warm up.The hot tub was nice. The view was nice, and the cabin felt more secluded than the properties in Sea Ranch that are on the west side of the main road. BIPOC beware of Sea Ranch facilities staff

We loved the cabin and the hot tub was great. Sleeping under the skylights was special! We would have appreciated the parking pass being left in the cabin for us - so as not to have had to drive to Gualala and back for that after what was already a long drive. And the cabin was 46 degrees F when we arrived! The gas fireplace is lovely but took nearly 6 hours to get us up above 60…. I would recommend during cold weather having the thermostat preset to at least 62 so as to avoid this issue for incoming guests.

Cabin 55 never disappoints! I say this every year and I’ll keep saying it until I land one of these cabins…anytime the owner gets tired of this property, I’d love to take it over! Fully equipped and well kept as always.

For our 3-day retreat, we wanted something in a quiet location, surrounded by trees, but not be too far from the ocean lest we get creeped out at night, and this cabin really fulfilled that wish. It was in a great location from Gualala, where we could pick up necessities, but it also has a really well-stocked kitchen with equipment (pots, pans, utensils, cooking tools, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, etc.), even bowls and an eating area for our dog, and everything was well-labeled. We were pleasantly surprised to find baking ingredients, and if we had stayed a bit longer, we would have loved to take advantage. We did use the grill, which worked great, the parking and trash situation was totally fine, there wasn't much trouble with loading and unloading. The bed was very comfortable, the skylight was lovely, the bathroom had all the needed amenities including a hair dryer, the cleaning pantry was stocked well so we could keep things tidy, the fireplace was so cozy, and the hot water came fast. All in all, we couldn't ask for more. I hope we will be back soon to enjoy this architecturally beautiful, well-designed cabin, and cozy space, and continue to explore the lovely Sea Ranch area and everything it has to offer for its community and visitors.

Cabin 55 was clean and very comfortable, with a nice slice of pacific view and fantastic setting. The ‘walk in’ cabins at Sea Ranch are unique in design and location; literally in a beautiful redwood forest! These cabins and Sea Ranch never disappoint!
