Stayed Aug 28, 2021The short 5 minute walk applies only if there has been no rain and are carrying nothing. If you are in good health and like to hike this is the place for you. Cabin is beautifully done and comfortable when you arrive. Could use some hand or rope rails and benches on the path for older groups of travelers.

Stayed Aug 3, 2025Ferny Fern is a delightful cabin. We loved sitting by the fire at night after a long day of hiking and having fun in Grand Marais. The cabin is well appointed and clean. We enjoyed the sauna too! The check in and out process was easy and the owners communicated with us well from the get go.

Stayed Jun 6, 2025The kids were not impressed when they saw the cabin but as soon as they saw fall river they loved it. The shower situation is not ideal. But for two nights stay it was doable!

Stayed Oct 3, 2024At my age I was able to do the hike from the parking lot to the cabin with no problem. It was cozy inside with plenty of space to also enjoy the outdoors. At night we sat on the deck enjoying the Milky Way & spotting Andromeda. The hosts were very responsive to any questions we had & had even left me a Happy Birthday message!

Stayed Sep 7, 2024The cabin was just what we needed for an off the grid long weekend. Each cabin has a good amount of land to walk around or relax in a hammock. They really thought of everything and fit in all of the necessities. One of the coolest parts was the composting toilet.
