Ely, Minnesota
Come stay in our comfortable Everett Lake home! The home is large, comfortable and located on five acres with over 700 feet of lakeshore.
The cabin has three bedrooms plus a loft, sleeping up to 10. It has two fireplaces, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, large deck and great views of Everett Lake.
The home is on the Echo Trail, close to the boundary waters and to Lake Burntside. In the summer, you can canoe across Everett and short portage will take you into Twin Lakes, the Dead River and Lake Burntside. Another portage on the property will take you into beautiful Fenske Lake. There is a beaver damn on the property and other wildlife abounds in the area. Two aluminum canoes provided.
In the winter, the house is well insulated and easy to heat. Take advantage of abundant cross-country skiing and snow-mobiling on the Little Grassy Trail. Listen for wolves and if you are lucky, watch the Northern Lights. We have a Finnish Sauna in the basement. Relax in our traditional cedar sauna before going to bed. If you're brave - run out into the snow!
NOTES:
Everett Lake has a 10 HP limit on motorboats, and we respect our neighbors desire for quiet and privacy. No jetskis, ATVs or large motor boats please! This is a very quiet setting, and these types of motorized vehicles are out of character for the Echo Trail.
WE HAVE TWO RING SECURITY CAMERAS - ONE AT THE REAR DOOR AND ONE ON THE FRONT PORCH.

Great place to get away from it all with ample sleeping space for 8 people. Very pleasant, functional cabin. Access to Everett lake for some cross country skiing. We saw fox tracks, and maybe bobcat.
We loved our stay at this property! It is in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The lake is the perfect size. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoes available to our family, the sauna and Foosball were fun editions. We were able to all have our own bedrooms and we loved the large common areas for relaxation and family fun! The kitchen had all the needed supplies, as well as linens and towels. We appreciated the quick response from the owner of questions we had!
We loved our stay at the Echo Trail cabin! The property and cabin was so neat-you get your own private nature trail to the lake. Our first day there we paddled around Everett Lake and took the short portage to Twin lakes. It was beautiful—even if we did get rained on. The location of the cabin puts you right in between Ely and all the other adventures Echo Trail has to offer. The house itself was very roomy and comfortable. Bedding and towels were all clean, and the kitchen was spacious and had everything we needed to eat in the cabin. Now, the house has its character—there are a few quirky things. For us, it all just added to the charm and making the place the feel like a homey, up-north cabin. None of it, however, detracted from a wonderful stay and week. We’ve been doing an annual trip to that area for a decade and hope to be able to stay again.
Cabin was spacious with great amenities! Downsides are proximity to Echo Trail road and public trail that runs alongside one end of property. We had a group of fisherman drive their boats down to lake one afternoon. Driveway must be shared for public use. Lake is very quiet. I can’t recall if posting mentioned you can’t swim from shoreline. Owner provided paddle boards, kayaks & canoes for paddling & exploring the lake. Cabin would be great to visit in winter when lake is frozen. That said, overall we enjoyed our stay!
Overall we enjoyed our stay. We had similar experiences to other reviews. The location can't be beat. Close to Ely, multiple lakes, and trails. Quiet lake on the property. We were there in cooler October, but still used the lake. Muddy for swimming, but not our focus. we did not use the AC but was plenty warm when it snowed! Check in was a breeze, and there was a lot of space, especially the main dining area. Communication was smooth. While it is spacious, it is a cabin. It you are looking for the newest amenities probably not your cup of tea. However, the dishwasher and oven worked just fine. The sauna is great. The upstairs bathroom as others noted is a little strange, but it worked for our family. Agree the upstairs shower is not very functional, but we used the tub (after we cleaned the residue that was present). The bathroom/shower on main floor is functional. Bedding was clean and beds were comfy, but we did have to clean the kitchen counters and vacuum upon arrival (there is one on the property). There were at least 30 dead flies. The area rugs /floors looked like they had not been vacuumed in months. (We have a young toddler). We also had to clean the bathtub as noted. minor things that need repair. There were cleaning supplies and descent vacuum available. Nice fully stocked kitchen and equipment to use for the lake. There are baby gates present, but not up to current safety codes, but were nice to have. The stairwell has large gaps, so we did get creative with blocking with coolers, etc, but we made it work for our crawling 12 month old. I also do not expect the owner to accommodate our exact needs, so it was nice to have. However, depending on your needs, you may need to bring some of your own things. Highchair is standard highchair you would see in a restaurant. we brought our own pack and play, but the one there looked fine. It was also a great place for the dog. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but the cleaning fee is tacky due to the condition of the cabin upon arrival (Especially because others have commented on this for years when I read the reviews). However, we have a family cabin as well as understand if you do not use the property often this is common for dust, etc. Just seemed weird for a rental, especially with a cleaning fee. Overall this did not have a negative effect on our stay as we were able to accommodate. May consider staying again...but with different expectations. Cleanliness aside, it was a 5 star location
We had a lovely time on our visit to the Ely area. Lots of fun hikes in the area and the cabin was plenty big to accommodate our family.
Great location for a reunion between old friends. Easy access to the lake and other surrounding lakes. Exactly what we needed for a long weekend.
We’ve stayed at this cabin multiple times. We love that the lake is very private. The cabin is fully stocked with about everything you will need.
pros: place was roomy, comfy, as advertised. Loved the dock and canoes! Lots of paddles and a wide range of life jacket sizes. Kitchen was well equipped, big roomy deck, nice grill. Great to have a pack n play, high chair, and gates everywhere! Very nice. Sauna was awesome too! And was super nice to have a washing machine and dryer cons: We saw a mouse, Loud creaky floors upstairs. Upstairs bathroom was odd. You can sit on toilet and watch cars go by! Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this property.
There are good things about this cabin and not so great things depending on your expectations. Upon arrival the property looked very rustic with all natural surroundings. No landscaping to speak of, and all the weeds were grown over the drives, paths, etc. When we went inside, it was very warm with no AC. I suspect this isn’t usually a necessity up there, but it happened to be warm that day and several other days we were there. It cooled off enough at night that we were able to get it cool inside. The cabin is not cleaned as we would expect. There were mouse droppings on the counters (which are in very poor condition), in the pantry (which we had to completely clean out), and on the floor. We went back to town and bought mouse traps and that remedied that issue. Both the pantry and fridge had a lot of food in them presumably from previous guests. The light fixtures were full of dead bugs, the kitchen cabinets were falling apart, the decking below is loose and a hazard, the bedroom doors only lock from the outside and don’t fully close. The water pressure has a mind of its own. Sometimes it was decent, other times there was barely enough to brush your teeth. We battled bugs inside because the screens have holes in them. Neither the front or patio doors would lock. Nearly every blind was broken and lopsided and windows are very dirty. There are cobwebs in most corners of the cabin including the kitchen. Floors are very dirty. The upstairs bathroom is odd. There’s no shower curtain and the toilet was hard for the older people in our group to use due to its position and height. It was also a bit disappointing that the only TV was up in the loft. Sometimes we would have liked the option to watch news in the morning on the main level. The basement smells strongly of dog. It was overwhelming to walk down there to use the sauna or laundry. The washing machine has instructions to not use laundry soap as it automatically fills but it was empty so our clothes never smelled clean. No laundry baskets either. The propane tank on the grill was empty. There were random people on the property using the dock. No chairs by fire pit.The sauna is nice, and the lake is beautiful. We enjoyed the canoes and kayaks. The property has potential and is located in a nice area just 15 minutes from Ely. If you’re expectations are for a rustic cabin, this place is for you. We just weren’t prepared for that level of rustic for what we paid.
Our family stayed for a week and throughly enjoyed our stay. Because our host provided canoes, kayaks, etc. we got to enjoy the lake instead of spending time renting and transporting our own to the property. Neighbors are deeded access to the lake at the property so don't be surprised if someone drops in to put there boat in the lake, but don't worry about privacy. The property is set up so that you still are in your own intimate place in the forest. We hope to be back!
Property met expectations! For a base to fish multiple lakes in the area it was ideal.
Me and my family love it in Ely and this is our second year in a row renting this wonderful cabin. Fishing and hiking are great and we look forward to coming back in the future
