About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical-drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 110 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Property was as described, clean and nice. Well equipped with linens, towels, all kitchen needs. Only 2 things that were not great: - Wifi didnt work for us at all. Thankfully data services were working on the phone so it was ok but we couldnt use the tv for any evening entertainment - AC- it's a window AC in living room and only 1 bedroom. Didnt do any cooling at all. During the daytime which was the hottest time, we were out and about and after 9pm the weather cooled so that helped the house with cooling down.

It was so great to stay in this lovely cabin inside the park at Yosemite. It is a very unique way to experience Yosemite while being away from the big crowds. Quiet and lovely! The cabin was prefect for my adult daughter and I. Have two beds and two bathrooms really works for a father/daughter. Had the most amazing trip ever!

We had a great time overall! This was our first family vacation since my wife passed away, and it couldn’t have gone better. I can well imagine going on the same vacation in the future.

This Canin had everything we needed. It was simple to get to, easy to check in after hours, and the second bedroom had two single beds so our son & daughter didn’t have to share a bed. Having a washer and dryer was a great perk. The air conditioning worked well and the neighborhood was very nice. I would recommend it.

The location at Yosemite was excellent and we could see all the sites we wanted to see fairly easily. The cabin was rustic, but clean and we enjoyed the fireplace since it got quite cool at night. The kitchen was well stocked.

Overall impression is good. Location and layout of property is great. Decor is somewhat dated. Utensils in kitchen could be updated to eliminate older items that are worn and/or duplicated.

The location of this cabin within Yosemite is a major advantage. The park is immense, and we would have spent extra hours each day driving if we had stayed in one of the bordering towns. Everything about the cabin was as advertised, and it suited our needs perfectly.

Beautiful location in Yosemite. Nice property. Within walking distance to small market. Reminded us of family cottage so felt right at home. Comfortable furniture and nicely outfitted kitchen. Enjoyed our stay.

We loved our stay in the cabin. It was very clean and comfortable. It is close to the south entrance. The only drawback that there was a miscommunication on that yes you need your check in paperwork to get into the park but you also need the 35.00 entry fee. Make sure you keep the receipt that is valid for 3 days or every time you leave the park it is another 35.00. And the Rangers are not that friendly when it comes to getting in.

This was the base of our Half Dome hiking trip from the Panorama trail to the valley floor. The cabin was pretty clean with a well appointment kitchen, internet, and bathrooms. Each bathroom has a shower for two full baths which worked well for our group of 6. However, we had to buy handsoap for the kitchen and baths, the little disk soap was too small for handwashing and the kitchen only had dish soap. A couple of recommendations for the owners: 1) Swap the location of the recliners and sofa in the main room. This will allow for more room for the couch to pull-out. This will also ensure that other guests in the house do not have to climb over the sofa couch to get to the kitchen if others are sleeping. 2) Please provide hand soap in the kitchen in addition to dish soap. 3) please consider providing oil for cooking. We had to purchase oil so we could effectively cook without ruining the pans. 4) update the listing description to indicate 2 bathrooms each with a shower. It was a nice surprise to have the additional shower. Thank you.

The cabin was clean and comfortable, the location was great, we were a few steps from a market. Really nice quiet trail heads closed by. If I go break to Yosemite, I will get this Cabin again

This was the perfect little cabin to stay in during our visit to Yosemite National Park. It was convenient that it was inside the park and we did not have to make driving reservations. It was a great place to come back to and relax after a long day on the trails!
