We so enjoyed our trip to this wonderful cabin . It was beautiful inside and out. The leaves were changing and were very pretty. We were celebrating our 52 th anniversary and just wanted a few quiet days by our self's. That was just what we got. We will be back for sure.

Very quiet and relaxing. Loved the hot tub and view!

Valkyrie is a charming cabin deep in the woods. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. The walk down to the river is nice and you can hear it from the deck. We enjoyed the grill and hot tub. An outdoor dining table would be a nice addition, but otherwise well furnished. Robert gave good, detailed directions to the cabin which were easy to follow. The cabin is only about 10 minutes to Desoto State Park where we enjoyed some nice trails and waterfalls. (Indian Falls, Laurel Falls and Lost Falls) Overall a great cabin for getting away from it all and enjoying nature, peace and quiet.

This property is truly amazing. All of the details, so much room. Perfect location in Mentone. The new additional room is so comfortable and inviting. This is by far one of the best VRBOs we have ever stayed. Very clean, we will stay here again. The host is very accommodating and did a great job of keeping us informed. Thank you! Jeremy

We had the best 4 day weekend at Fenway. The cabin is beautiful. It was so relaxing to just be in the woods and along the river. We got to unplug and slow down, which is exactly what we needed. We were a short drive from Mentone, DeSoto Falls, and Fort Payne. We would definitely rent this cabin again. I have already sent the link to my daughter and her husband to plan their trip to this amazing cabin and gorgeous area.

My wife and I enjoyed our 4 nights in Fernweh, the cabin lived up to the listing. Started out not so great as we arrived in the middle of a thunderstorm and tornado watch, and the wi-fi was not working. The heavy rain lasted most of the overnight and the cabin's metal roof really amplified the sound of the rain and made it hard to sleep. But after that, things were great and we had a relaxing few days. We enjoyed sitting on the back deck and listening to the roar of the Little River below, and made a few trips into Mentone for lunch, to Little River Falls and DeSoto Falls (which were really flowing heavily thanks to the rain), and DeSoto State Park. Will definitely consider coming back!

Fantastic stay! The directions given by owner were spot-on. My hobbies are cabins. I do about 8-10 a year. This was the most remote, which made it ideal for me. I never knew the mountains of Alabama were so beautiful! There was an issue with the hot tub. I couldn't get the breakers to turn on (I don't have the hand strength). A young fella came to do some weed-eating. I told him the issue. He said someone would come right away and get tub to work. Wasn't but 15 minutes and the cleaning lady came and turned on breaker! I was impressed. This cabin aims to please. If I could give it 6 stars I would.

What a beautiful remote home. It had everything we needed! It had so many beautiful details. The bathroom was gorgeous!! Loved that copper tub!! The house was very secluded in the mountains. We Loved it!

Kitchen was equipped with all essentials that you would need for light meals. The view from the property is absolutely amazing with the the water right in the backyard.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was the perfect escape from reality. From the moment we walked in, we could tell how much care goes into this cabin. Everything was spotless, welcoming, and so thoughtfully prepared for us.The views are incredible. We loved starting our mornings looking out the windows from the bed or sitting on the patio with coffee. Our afternoons were spent exploring and hiking nearby, and our evenings were shared under the stars relaxing in the hot tub. The copper tub even had us joking about doing a bathroom remodel at home!Our almost 11-year-old border collie, Tux, felt right at home too. We set his bed up in front of the fireplace and he happily kept watch over us and joined in on our little adventures.Thank you a million times over for such an amazing stay and memories that will last a lifetime. Felt like home! Everything was wonderful! The property was beautiful and the cabin was clean! The sound of the water rushing below the cabin was so relaxing!

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at this amazing cabin It was exactly where we needed to be to get rest but also a bit of adventure as well. The weather was perfect and the river was flowing where we could hear and see it from the house. It's a bit of a walk down and back up, but there is a bench in the middle if you need to rest. I'm VERY picky on beds, and I have to say that we slept better than we have in quite a while. The bed was soft but supportive. The hot tub was perfect after doing some hiking. This was also one of the cleanest homes inside and out that we've stayed at. The outdoor furniture was really nice and clean too. You are way out, but we felt completely safe and couldn't see any other cabins through the trees. Robert was a great host. We will absolutely be back because we've stayed all around the area and this has become our new favorite

Loved everything about the place. The creek/walk down path behind the house was a secret delight. We will be back for our anniversary in October! Our dogs loved the experience as well! We can't wait to be back!!! We also recommend the wildflower cafe as well! The peanut butter pie was to die for!

Beautiful place

The cabin was clean and cozy. The kitchen is well stocked too. The hot tub was amazing! The games, dvd's, and Tv provided were perfect! Hubby and I brought our 2 dogs and they enjoyed the nature walks too. The gated-in area for pets was spacious. The sound of the river below is so relaxing, you will want to stay forever.

Every thing was great

Our fifth visit to Fernweh, third during the winter months and it never disappoints. The cabin is in excellent condition with all facilities and amenities in perfect order. Plenty of firewood for the bluff located firepit. The beds are wonderful and bathrooms are unbelievably beautiful.

Our stay at the Fernweh Cabin was so amazing… it was just what we were looking for! Off the beaten path, cozy and so well appointed in every way! Still close enough to town, restaurants and the small town feel. Listening to the river flowing from the hot tub and the stargazing out on the back porch made it hard to leave. We will definitely be back!!! Robert’s directions were much appreciated and we can’t thank him enough for sharing this beautiful home with our family.

Great cabin with all required amenities to have a relaxing time. The spa hot tub is amazing and the outside dog area is a huge plus. It was our second stay in Montone in one of Rob’s cabins and I’m sure there will be more.

There was a situation that came up outside of the host’s control. It was handled as smoothly as possible and we were put in an upgraded cabin. The cabin was beautiful and welcoming, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. The cabin had everything we could have needed during our stay and the hot tub was perfect in the cold weather. It was a little bit of a drive to get anywhere, but that was the intention. We enjoyed the seclusion.

Highly recommend this most excellent getaway! It was simply perfect for a relaxing weekend. The fireplace and hot tub were our favorite!

Great communication. The cabin was lovely and fully stocked with every kind of appliance and cookware. The location was quiet and private which was just what we were looking for! Close to hiking and outdoor adventures. Our dog was in heaven…and the hot tub was amazing after a long day of hiking in all of the beautiful parks. Loved our stay and will be back!

Everything was awesome. Clean comfy beds plenty of room. Hot was great. We thoroughly denied out anniversary trip.

It is even better than than the description. I can't think of a more peaceful location for a couple to spend.We actually got a cellular signal most of the time. WiFi worked great. TV worked well, but we did not waste time on TV. It is very much off the beaten path, but not far from nice restaurants, grocery stores, etc. I just loved sitting by the fire with my wife. Some of the furnishings brought back memories of yesteryear.To me, this is an ideal getaway for an adult couple or perhaps a group of 4 friends. If you have small chlidren, they will have to play inside, or be taken elsewhere if they want to hike, etc. But those are close by at DeSoto State Park and several other areas close by.The kitchen is small, but well stocked with all the devices etc you need to prepare meals. I enjoyed grilling on the ample deck space. We will definitely go back!aIt's a very unique restoration. Beautiful copper tub and awesome shower. Nice hot tub on deck . The sound of the water in the canyon is so soothing. The VRBO description of this unique cabin doesn't do it justice. I believe you have to experience it to enjoy the serenity and peace this lovely cabin can give you.

This cabin is cozy, charming, secluded, and immaculate. The great room is well appointed and nostalgic, with a small open kitchen space, large table perfect for playing board games, a huge TV and plenty of DVDs and games, and a large, comfy couch. The bathrooms are pristine, but the en suite bathroom is a stunner, with a huge copper bathtub, walk-in stone shower, dual vanities, and big windows looking out toward the fire pit. There's a comfortable king-size bed in the main bedroom and a loft space with three more nice beds and a TV. Out back is a wonderful huge hot tub in the screened-in porch and a really nice grill. Lots of charming decor touches, including an abundance of owls -- we had fun finding them all. We would absolutely stay here again!

Secluded and romantic describe this cabin perfectly. Fernweh is a great getaway for anyone looking to disconnect from the world. We will be back.

Great just to hard yo get to the river

This is a beautiful cabin in a very secluded area. My wife and I stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary. It was very peaceful to sit on the back porch in the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee while listening to the creek down the hill. We spent most of our time out exploring the area and played golf at the Lil Mole. But in the evenings it was nice to come back to the cabin once again enjoy the peace and tranquility of being away from the rest of the world. We definitely want to stay here again and explore the creek and just enjoy everything the property has to offer.

Very private cabin. Pet friendly and well appointed.

Very nice cabin in excellent shape. Unfortunately, the listing did not describe a steep walk down to the creek. My wife could not make it down (much less back up) the walkway and stairs. Our main attraction to this cabin - the creek - became a nonentity and big disappointment. Also, it would be good to send the info sooner than 2 days prior. We were already on the road and not able to bring some of the suggested items. This was our first experience with VRBO and maybe our last.

We absolutely loved our stay at Fernweh! The quiet, seclusion and peacefulness was just what we needed. Loved the hot tub while drinking my morning coffee and listening to the relaxing sounds of the river. The cabin has so much character and we also loved the beautiful sites, waterfalls and restaurants the area has to offer. Thank you!

Great place to stay.

Overall, a wonderful cabin. Host was excellent. Cabin was furnished and fully equipped. I could hear the water rushing in the mountain Creek below the cabin. I felt at peace, enjoying nature, but still close enough to other activities in Ft Payne. I would recommend this place to all.

If you want to experience a wonderful example of our Lord's creation this cabin is perfect! Cabin is on a very private road. No one is on top of you. We celebrated the 4th of July with the fireworks show in Fort Payne that is only 20 minutes away. We also enjoyed antique shopping in Mentone and Fort Payne. Instacart will deliver for an extra 7 long distance fee. You may have to help with directions. Cabin was very clean and stocked with everything we needed. The fence and screened in porch was perfect for our dogs. Very peaceful and we could hear Whippoorwills at night.

This cabin is amazing. If you are looking for a true getaway, this is the place. Truly out in the woods and away from everything. Will definitely be coming back.

We had not been on vacation in years due to my husband's health but this year we finally got to go back to Mentone for our anniversary. Fernweh was fabulous and just what we needed! The cabin is easy to find if you follow the directions. It is is so clean and cozy. We will be back.

The property was very nice, clean and well kept. The rules and instructions abundant. The highlight for me was the back porch (with hot tub) which is surrounded by trees and nature. A bonus was the fenced yard for the dog with easy access to the back porch. The home is very isolated which we enjoyed but know it is quite far from town on dark windy roads with patchy internet. My only ding would be that I thought the river was closer to the house. The photos kind of make it look like it is. There was a lot rain before we arrived so we could hear the rushing water but could not see it without walking down the mountain. But once there it was beautiful.

Amazing cabin, very clean and stocked with everything you need. Loved the sound of the rushing water, and it was so quiet. No neighbors and no street noise. Great locations to local parks. We would stay here again.

The whole purpose for me taking vacation this time was to not do anything bit relax. The day of departure I turned off all ringers and notifications for my entire trip. The cabin was beautiful and serene. It rain the whole weekend I was there and I actually found it added to the peacefulness I felted.

Such a calming and relaxing experience… just two of us… the sounds of the water fall and the river flow.. The Hot Tub was the best. We willl definitely come back!

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The location is fantastic with it being just a short hike to a stream behind the house. The cabin is down a long, gravel road, which I think most vehicles could drive.We loved the cabin itself. The main bedroom has a door that opens to a screen porch, which is the location of the hot tub. We left the door open when we were there to hear the sound of the stream. The backyard was great for our senior dog.The cabin was clean, but I did notice some cobwebs on the ceiling. Some of the furniture could probably use an upgrade. Overall, we enjoyed the cabin and our stay.

This is a gorgeous property!!! It was also well supplied, and all my girlfriends and I had to do was sit back to relax!!! The back deck was very much enjoyable and we all want one like it now! We had a great time. It’s secluded and quiet and the cabin was immaculate.

Absolutely perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in nature. Loved the original cabin, the screened in porch was perfect, and the trail/stairs to the water were manageable! King bed was comfy and the master bath was AMAZING! A couple of nights got a little cool and we loved being able to have a fire inside. Within 5 minutes to Desoto Falls State Park and 25 minutes to The Little River Gorge. Thank you so much for the beautiful stay at your place :)

We wanted to be in a secluded location with nature and we got exactly that! We spent most of the time at the cabin or exploring the river below (a trail led you there from the house). We spent one afternoon hiking to the DeSoto Falls which was a short drive from the cabin itself. We really, really enjoyed listening to the river all day and soaking in the hot tub.

Truly serene location. Perfect for a little rock climbing and trail hiking. The home was exactly as it looked in the pictures. Super clean and loaded with everything you need for a fun stay.

Beautiful property right on the Little River. There is even a stairway down to the river. The cabin has satellite TV and Internet. There is a wood burning fireplace and firewood. Very secluded but close to everything.

Cute and cozy cabin. Road in is narrow and at times muddy, but not busy. We appreciate that we could vacation with our dogs in a beautiful setting. The king mattress was comfortable and the fireplace worked perfectly. Comfortable furniture and the hot tub was great. Had a couple issues, but nothing huge. Did lose power for 3 hours in a rainstorm. All pretty normal stuff.I would definitely return..

Outstanding

We stayed here while attending a basketball tournament in nearby Ft. Payne and enjoyed everything about the home/property. The hot tub was awesome, the bed was very comfortable, and everything was clean and cozy. We had everything we needed and left feeling relaxed and refreshed in the middle of the busy holiday season.

We really enjoyed the cabin. Its exactley what you would expect of a cabin in the woods. The river below the cabin was so cool. Our stay was so very cold, didnt get to enjoy all the great porches. We didnt even open the hot tub, not really my thing. We followed the instructuons and found it easily. I would suggest going before dark, it would be more difficult at night. A beautiful and remote experience. Simple luxury. The cabin was perfect—exactly as pictured and described. However, pictures do not do justice to the location’s beauty. For our Thanksgiving visit there were stunning fall colors. We used cabin as base camp for visiting Chattanooga and Fort Payne. We would love to visit again. again. Our dogs enjoyed hikinthe

Would not ever stay again

We had a very enjoyable weekend. We are planning to come back and bring our kids on our next trip. The cabin was very clean and had all necessary items plus lots more!

Fist off, this is a beautiful property & cabin. If you want a secluded, serene, relaxing location, this is it. We stayed an entire week and enjoyed it so much. Gorgeous decor, comfy beds, listen to the babbling water outside. With a quick drive into Mentone for shopping, this place is perfect.
