About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite) and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup game of basketball at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The historic village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area) and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance of everything that Wawona has to offer, and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Rustic setting, great for a couple and two kids! Long lines to get into the park every day, but we were already inside the park and did not have to deal with them!

The hosts were friendly. The area is amazing. Mind you the cabin is located in a place that is surrounded by other rental cabins so if you’re looking for a private place, it’s not too private but again no one really goes to these places to stay around in the cabin. One downside was the beds are very uncomfortable, coming back from a long day of hiking you wanna relax in something reasonably comfortable unfortunately that was not our experience.Besides that everything was great the area is gorgeous and you should definitely check out Wawona Falls It’s three minutes away and well worth the hike.

Great location; cabin could stand a little TLC. Bed comforter was worn & torn. There’s no dishwasher or ice maker so we went old school and hand washed dishes and filled ice trays.Hinge on kitchen cabinet under sink was broken on one side. Loved the outside deck

The deck and chairs are good but deck needs staining and chair cushions are ready for replacement. I would say decor is retro but comfortable and all amenities that you need. Nice quiet neighborhood.

The beds were comfortable. Good pillows, sheets, towels. Just what we needed after exploring and hiking in Yosemite all day. We loved the outdoor space to relax. Being inside the park boundaries made it so we did not have to go through the entrance checkpoint every day. The kitchen was sufficient for cooking our breakfast and supper but could have used a better selection of dish ware, glasses and silverware.

The cabin was perfect for our multi-generational group during our visit to Yosemite. Cozy, clean and comfortable, and the baby loved the large tub. Recommended.

The Cabin is beautiful with a lovely deck. Unfortunately, the old range smelled so much of propane it gave me a headache even with windows open. Maintenance was very responsive and turned the propane off to the stove for our stay. We were able to use the outside grill and microwave for cooking.

Stayed 5 nights in the Wawona Cabin. Very nice cabin inside Yosemite National Park. We had never visited Yosemite so I was booking based on nearest location. I didn't realize the cabin is actually inside the park so we never left the park once we arrived. The cabin was fine for our family of 5 adults but probably better suited for four people. The cabin is a bit dated but was cleaned and had everything we needed. The VRBO owner was prompt with communication prior to our arrival. The check in process was fine although the keys were left in a late box even though we arrived around 4:00 as the main office was closed. The best part was the location. Very near the Wawona entrance and the Mariposa Grove. About an hour drive to Yosemite Valley. The cabin is part of a large group of cabins (Redwoods at Yosemite) and has an on-site office and management that is staffed during the day. They do have a laundry room that is free but only open 8:00 - 2:30. The on-site office was able to add an additional night for us when our flight was cancelled. Overall a very good stay and a great experience.

The cabin was clean and comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed for preparing meals. There was no AC, but that wasn't an issue at all. The internet was slow but functional. The only negative for us was that one bathroom had a tub and no shower. The location is good. It was convenient to stay inside the park, about an hour from Yosemite Valley. There is a small, well-stocked grocery store nearby.
