Enjoy our two-bedroom rustic cabin just a few minutes from Cornell University and Ithaca College.

Surrounded by magnificent hemlock trees and nestled on the hillside above Lake Cayuga, the cabin also has a shale beachfront and dock with use of the kayaks, canoe, and boathouse.

You can focus on water sports or use the cabin as a base for exploring the spectacular scenery (the gorgeous gorges are just minutes away), wineries, restaurants, colleges, museums, Watkins Glenn activities and other treasures of the area.

Although you are only minutes from all that Ithaca has to offer (including Wegman's!), the cabin is a world apart: you feel as though you are in a treehouse--surrounded by hemlocks and rhododendren. A walk down the hillside brings you to the shale beachfront and access to Ithaca's most stunning asset: 40-mile long, 600+ feet deep, glacier-formed Lake Cayuga.

A big advantage of the cabin is its location on the lake but in Ithaca. Most Cayuga Lake cabins are 20-35 miles away from the Ithaca attractions.

We live in the large house on the property but your parking, entrance, beachfront, etc., are all private, we rarely cross paths with the folks in the cabin. We also rent the main house when we are out of town which can hold 8-10 guests.

Please note that the west shore of the lake in Ithaca is a very steep hillside. So, even though our property is more accessible than some, there are 37 wide railroad tie steps from the cabin parking to the cabin front porch along with a railing.
There are 40 steps from the cabin to the lakeshore.

We had a nice weekend at the cabin. It’s super close to city restaurants and shops and also very close to hiking spots. We visited in the fall and I loved to see the red maple through the window. Even though it was chilly we walked down to lake and my daughter found some nature treasures. The living room furniture could use updating, and some larger cooking pans would help in kitchen.

Watching the water sparkle with sunrise light through the trees, and then being able to easily walk down to the beach was such a special treat! The cabin is fully equipped, the hosts are kind and responsive. There are so many wonderful things to do nearby, we will have to come back to enjoy this again.

The cabin was nice . The only problem happened when the power went out. That problem had nothing to do with the property owners.

Host was very helpful. Cabin was vintage, yet very clean. I felt like the description of the property made it seem like the cabin had a direct lake view, which it did not. The area at the dock was dirty, had spiderwebs and uninviting. The steps from the parking area to the cabin and from the cabin to the lake were uneven and a little scary. Definitely difficult to navigate with luggage. Overall, we had a restful stay.

This cabin is very nice and semi-secluded. Everything is clean and it feels like a private little tree house. The owners were great and responsive when we couldn’t figure out the lock. The only things are, 1. be prepared to climb steps. The beach and dock are amazing and worth it. 2. Know the main house is really close to the cabin. There’s no interaction, with them but, it is close. This place was great for our anniversary get away.

Poor, bedding pillows worn out, furniture broken down , extremely difficult to get down the steep cliff rail road tie walk with baggage, car parking at the very top of hill. Complete unconvinced stay. We checked out early. Also clean up everything , and still pay a cleaning fee ridiculous .

The cabin is close to Ithica which was nice and the cabin was super clean on the inside. The kitchen is stocked nicely. The shower is small! Don’t drop the soap! The towels are soft. We appreciated use of the washing machine and dryer. The BBQ and deck needed some tidying up before use and the living room furniture could use some updating….it was not very comfortable. The walk down to the lake was a bit steep and the beach was not inviting. It was small and the area around the beach needed some TLC as did the picnic table and fire pit area near the cabin. There were nesting birds flying back and forth overhead into the boathouse beside the dock which I did not find particularly enjoyable. The host was very responsive to our inquiries and feedback.

We loved our stay at Sally and Richard's cabin. The property is stunning- right on the water surrounded by lush foliage. The property is just a short drive from Ithaca and right off of a main road, although you would never know it because its so quiet! The dock was a perfect place to spend the day laying lakeside and reading. And the added bonus of the kayaks was extra special. I highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a special getaway, and I will certainly be back!

We were looking for something overlooking Cayuga Lake and not being too far from downtown Ithaca - this cottage fit the bill. Very quiet and peaceful during our stay. Owners were very responsive and communicative when needed. The cottage was well stocked as indicated in the Vrbo description. Arriving after dark, the cottage parking was a little confusing but we figured it out. There are about 35 somewhat irregular steps leading to the cottage from the guest parking area - a little harder on us folks in our 70's to navigate but overall the cottage was perfect. We were able to watch some beautiful sunrises over the lake while having breakfast. Truly a wonderful get away.

Overall our stay was pleasant at this cottage, but there were some flaws that made the visit much less comfortable. The living room furniture was shabby and old; the shower was smaller than the back seat of my car and not very clean. The dock photo in the listing must have been taken a long time ago because now it's wobbly and leans to the side. And the small deck has a very flimsy bamboo barrier that doesn't feel strong enough to hold someone if they happened to fall through it to the ground. The cottage is behind the main house and because of that the lake view is obstructed. We did see an eagle and the lake, once you're down there, is lovely, but it's a tricky walk and there is no way this property is accessible to anyone with a disability. All this would be fine if it didn't cost over $700 for 2 nights.

This cabin worked out great for me and my friend during our visit to Ithaca. It was nice to be out of town, but only minutes away. We enjoyed visiting state parks, a winery and a cider house, the Ithaca farmers market and other sights. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good enough to take advantage of the lake or any kayaking opportunities.

We stayed at this cabin when we dropped our oldest off at college. The location is fantastic. Close to Ithaca and state parks and the lake is beautiful. However, while this cabin may be a beloved place for the owners from years ago, it has not been well maintained. The cabin has a musty smell. The kitchen had ants all over the back wall during our stay. That made our desire to cook diminish. The bathroom is not great. The shower is so small I barely fit in it and I am 5’4”. The towels were worn thin and did not do a great job absorbing water. Overall I cannot recommend this cabin.

The lake views at thus “cabin” are sparse and hard to see. To get down to the lake you have to go down many stairs that are uneven and falling apart. Bushes and branches needed to be trimmed on the way down. It doesn’t seem like the lake is used much - many cob webs around the sitting area and the sea grass overtook the ladder on the dock. The tandem kayak we enquired about was broken. The “cabin” which is really a loft above the garage, is very clean and comes with many rules with recycling and how to clean up before leaving. There are MANY stairs to get to and from the cabin from the car park area. These stairs are uneven, starting to rot and some have been filled with concrete. I wish I had read previous reviews before leaving cereal and crackers on the counter. As the next day, they were full of ants and so was the kitchen! The beds and sheets seem old and the towels are very thin. The couches weren’t comfortable. The bathroom is very basic. The best part of this rental property is its location to Ithaca! We loved our stay because of being in Ithaca!

What a perfect venue for our summer getaway! We really enjoyed our stay. The private beach area was a treat. The gas BBQ grill made dinner time fun and we really enjoyed the fire pit off the deck and the big picnic table. I kitchen was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. The washer and dryer were a nice bonus. I would definitely love to stay there again.

Totally worth it! Minutes from the heart of Ithaca, beautiful lake front spot. Owners communicate great. The cabin is a little rustic, but you should be outside at the lake or on the Commons!
