About the Area

Nestled just 4 miles inside the southern entrance of Yosemite National Park is the charming and historic town of Wawona. Located at the base of Chilnualna Falls (the second-highest vertical drop waterfall in Yosemite), and home to the principal trailheads into the southern Yosemite wilderness, Wawona is also the closest town to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias.
Wawona has the feel of a small town but is bustling with activity! Over 160 residents, including Yosemite Park employees, live in Wawona and can be seen gathering at the town's community center, playing a pickup basketball game at the elementary school, jogging on one of the many picturesque trails, or simply walking their dogs and baby strollers through the winding residential streets. The historic Wawona Swinging Bridge boasts the best natural water slide in the Park! The history village is filled with docents, stagecoach rides, horseback rides, and barn dances in the summer season, and the Wawona Meadow Loop offers year-round riparian meadow wildlife viewing.
Wawona was known to the local Native American Miwok in their language as Pallachun (a good place to stay). It is located entirely within Yosemite National Park (it preceded the founding of the park as a national recreation area), and is located on the South Fork of the wild and scenic Merced River, on the main highway (State Route 41) from Fresno to Yosemite Valley.
Galen Clark, who helped gain preservation legislation for Mariposa Grove and what later became part of Yosemite National Park, occupied the Wawona area in 1855 and established a tourist rest and modest ranch, which he later sold and made into a hotel and resort property (the Wawona Hotel). The Wawona post office was established in 1878 and was originally called Clark's Station.
The Redwoods in Yosemite has over 120 vacation rental homes and is proud to say that all of them are located in Wawona. All are within walking distance to everything that Wawona has to offer and every one of them is surrounded by the majesty of Yosemite National Park!

Wawona is such a beautiful area! We absolutely loved staying at the Redwoods Stargazers Cabin — being surrounded by the majestic redwoods was incredible. One of the highlights was having both the swinging bridge and the Chilnualna Falls trailhead so close by. Being able to start such a beautiful (and a bit strenuous) hike right from the cabin without having to drive anywhere was amazing.Yosemite Village was about an hour’s drive due to road work, but that didn’t take away from our experience — we love Yosemite so much and will definitely be returning next year to stay at the Redwoods Stargazers Cabin again. The cabin itself was well equipped with plenty of pots and dishes, which made cooking easy. Just remember to bring your own cooking supplies and groceries if you plan to use the kitchen. The small convenience store nearby was also a big plus.We can’t wait to return next year!

Would have been a good stay had the basic cleaning been performed. We walked into the home, took off our shoes and socks, and after a few minutes of walking around, our feet were black. We had kids and babies that we wanted to lay on the rug but there were crumbs everywhere. Lucky we found a vacuum in the closet and vacuumed the floors ourselves. I’m not sure where the cleaning fee for this place is going but it’s definitely not going towards cleaning the home. One positive is that the maintenance guy showed up in minutes with propane when the grill ran out. We wish that this level of service was applied to the rest of the operations at The Redwoods In Yosemite. We will not be staying here again.

That cabin was horrible. Nothing like the photos. The mold was making us all sick and it was hard to breath. Wasn’t very clean. However Sharon at the Redwoods Office turned a horrible experience into a great one. The next morning moved us to a different home that was clean, no mold, and beautiful. Thank you Sharon! This was our first time. Advice would be to make sure which home you’re getting. Grizzly was amazing!

It was a great house for my family and extended family to stay. Our final two days it snowed and the back area was perfect for sledding with the kids. The host was helpful and communicative. The only issue was the smoke detector in the living room was too close to the kitchen. It kept on going off when we made lasagna in the oven or even bacon for breakfast. Other than that it was great.

Where do I start? Booked this due to the fireplace. Checkin at 4 and they closed at 4:30. Compliments to your photographer, this place is old and run down! Half of the outlets didn't work. Booked because we wanted a fireplace but it smoked up the house so bad, we couldn't use it after first day! Brought to their attention and was told they heard that before!!, WHAT! I wouldn't have paid nearly an outrageous price per night if I knew any of this, it was a dive! With that said we had a wonderful vacation in Yosemite National Park but accommodations sucked! By the way, can't watch tv if you use other devices. My son had to hook up the dish because it was hooked up wrong! We didn't have wifii first night because they provided wrong information and office closed a half hour after checking in! Skip this one for sure!! I loved the area but this house is so old and run down, the linoleum was cracked and peeling throughout the house, smelled old and dusty, very disappointed!

Overall, this home worked out well for our multi-family trip to Yosemite. We had the max amount of people and still had enough space to hang out upstairs together, and the back deck was nice for morning coffee. Being inside the park was key so we didn't have to wait at the gate each morning, and the trail to Chilnualna Fall is right behind the house! The kitchen was well-stocked and both the kitchen and bathrooms seemed newly remodeled and were clean. Now for the cons. Bedrooms are smaller than they appear in the pictures. House is old and quirky(it is a cabin, after all).We technically had enough sleeping space but ended up putting one teenage boy on the floor downstairs because there was not a futon as it states in the description. Downstairs was smelly and there was a sticky trap under the bed. Upstairs, the floors were definitely not cleaned, rugs not vacuumed, and the furniture was all pushed to the side as if someone had forgotten to put it back. We tried wiping a floor tile to see if it was just our imagination and it came up black! There was dried spaghetti sauce on the table. We ran out of TP, paper towels and garbage bags by day 2 and called for more, which they brought, but you'd think for the price they would have extra supplies there when the place is booked for 12 people. In the end, we decided the location and upstairs space in the cabin made this a nice stay for our family. Just be aware that you are paying a premium for location, not luxury!

The shower downstairs was not cleaned when we arrived but because we checked in late we couldn’t switch. The house needs updates but overall nice. The staff were helpful when we got stuck in the lower driveway. I would of like washer & dryer and basic condiments to cook since the store closes at 6pm and opens at 8am.

This cabin is in a great location. There's a river that is a short distance away. Management gave us the wrong info to log into the WIFI but we figured it out. The dishwasher didn't work and the down stairs toilet would sometimes run. The beds are very comfy! We enjoyed our stay.
