This is a lovely place to stay. It was clean, old reviews that stated it is not must be outdated. The flat is easy to access and has a stunning view of the castle. The kitchen has everything you need. The location is perfect for accessing multiple parts of town.

Great location, which is what you're paying for. The place itself definitely needs some upgrades, furniture is old, beat up, and needs to be replaced. Especially the mattress and pillows! Pay attention to the wording in the listing, the balcony is actually a shared walkway that everyone uses for access to the units

This has a stunning view of the Edinburgh Castle and is walkable to most of the major sights. We gave a 2-star rating because (1) There are several pubs across the busy street from the apartment building that were quite noisy into the wee hours of the night. There was no mention of this in the listing or communications. (2) Two of the heating units were held together by duct tape so we did not use those. The toaster had a note left by a previous visitor stating that using the toaster blew out all the electricity in the apartment. (3) Unlike the booking photos, the sofa was covered by a knitted blanket that hid the fact that the leather on the cushions was completely gone revealing the stuffing. (4) The most serious safety concern involves the bathtub/shower. The tub is high and extremely slippery and no rubber mat or non-slip surface was provided. There was nothing to prevent a serious fall when entering or leaving the tub. (5) We wrote to Joivy/Altido (management company) about these issues and they sent a technician later the next day to fix what he could. He said the heating units needed to be replaced. (6) Be aware: Joivy/Altido charged a “Markup Fee” of approximately the cost of a night. Their response was that the fee was charged by the booking platform (VRBO). When we contacted VRBO they assured us that, as is posted on their website, they do not charge additional fees. To date, there is no response back from Joivy/Altido Edinburgh.

Excellent location with spectacular view of the castle! Comfortable and functional. A bit noisy at night with the bedroom window over the busy street, but we expected that with the location. Excellent instructions for checking in and out.

Great location and felt very very safe! Not really the cleanest but also not the worst - kind of middling. The only thing that made it feel more grungy than it was that a lot of little things in the apartment were broken and showing more than normal wear and tear. Could use a little TLC.The location had a fantastic view and the military tattoo happening in the castle was something you could listen to (and see the fireworks and drone show) from the comfort of your own balcony! Really enjoyed my stay.

Photographs on the website can be surprisingly misleading, the apartment smelled of damp as soon as we walked through the door, great location, brilliant views, but it all ends there. The furniture looked like it had been bought from a car boot sale, nothing matched, see pictures for evidence of neglect, for the price paid, this apartment was a disgrace. The fridge did not work, the cooker was lodged between a drawer that would not open properly, the heaters were held together with masking tape for gods sake, the bathroom was damp and smelled of mould, one of the two dining chairs had a leg that was bent, and could not be sat on, paint was peeling off the walls, the curtains were not hanging properly, the bedside tables were both splintered, the furniture was extremely uncomfortable, we ended up trying to stay away from the place for as long as we could throughout each day. We will be taking this to social media with an article published through our magazine if a refund is not forthcoming. Extremely disappointing is not strong enough. And, we believe the host gets to review us, my god, absolutely absurd.

Loud obnoxious drunks keep you awake well into the morning hours from the bar across the street. You are provided one towel and one hand towel with no wash clothes. There are no instructions for appliances that are unlike appliances we are used to. Not great communication. Worn out furniture. The castle view is phenomenal, convenient walking to all sightseeing attractions and shopping but the comfort level is very low for the price paid. I would not recommend this place.

My spouse and I stayed four nights in this apartment. The positives are that it is in a great location with access to pubs, cafes, grocery store and attractions. It also had a spectacular view of the castle and we felt like a local staying there. Also even though it is on a busier street it was fairly quiet. The challenges are that the checkin process was not well communicated, couch and curtains were very worn, Netflix on tv was not working and the fridge stopped working completely. Also the pictures of apartment do not show the front entrance of building. It has a barred security gate and large rubbish bins. There was also a lot of quirky instructions on how to operate items such as water heater was on a timer.

Location was perfect for the Fringe Festival, dining and bars. Property was clean but tired, furnishings torn and a bit ragged. Communication with company was fine.

The bathroom and overall space is excellent. It makes all the difference when you are travelling to be able to relax, and after climbing all the stairs the apartment is worth it. Great view, lovely easy open skylights, and that tub. Heaven.

Everything about this stay was amazing. The location of the apartment to the station and all the hubbub of Edinburgh was perfect. Directions and online communication was fantastic - didn’t stress at all. The view from our front door (Edinburgh castle) was breathtaking. The whole flat was so clean and tidy and had everything we needed for the two nights we stayed. Would definitely book again. Couldn’t find a fault (well maybe shower pressure but that was only an issue for me when washing my hair!) Look forward to booking again when we next visit
