Stanardsville, Virginia
Secluded guest apartment on 160 acres of private land nestled on a mountainside overlooking a working cattle farm and Shenandoah National Park. Perfect for small gatherings of friends, winery weekends, or a family holiday. We are a 15 minute drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Swift Run Gap entrance to Shenandoah National Park, an 8 minute drive from the Blue Ridge School, and minutes from the shops and restaurants of Stanardsville, VA and the award winning Monticello Wine Trail. Full kitchen and laundry amenities, an amazing view of the Blue Ridge mountains from the attached deck, and total privacy. Our family retreat for more than forty years is named after Dr. Frank "Pete" McMains, our grandfather, who built the farm complex. Pete donated 20% of his 50 year career as an orthopedic surgeon caring for severely disabled children pro bono at McMains Childrens' Developmental Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Let us share this magical place with your family (of origin or of choice)! PLEASE NOTE: the property can only be accessed by stairs and is NOT ADA accessible. NO PETS and NO SMOKING.
Lovely property. The house fit us perfectly for what we needed. We had our two adult daughters with us, so the two twin beds in second bedroom were perfect. It was also close to the Shenandoah NP which we visited both days. There was a grocery store and places to eat not far up the road. If we were ever in the area again we would certainly stay here.
Peaceful, serene, perfect family getaway. Everything was thoughtful and well appointed. We were incredibly comfortable.
Beautiful area. Secluded (you cross 3 cattle guards). Carriage house upper level, so it is up stairs. Nice unit, bit of a hike to Charlottesville (35-40 minutes). Try the nearby Lafayette Hotel for Sunday brunch.
Provided great place to relax/sleep during a busy weekend.
Perfect spot to place ours heads on the pillow for the night after a wedding, and have coffee in the morning before heading out. Beautiful property.
Great location if you are looking for peace and quiet (deer, squirrels, one fat gopher) and close proximity to the App Trail/Shenandoah National Park. I always enjoy having a full sized fridge, oven, and microwave when on vacation or traveling in order to avoid going out to eat ($$$) all the time and packing on the pounds. Full sized W/D as well helps avoid having to pack stale smelling clothes from your hikes!
We loved our stay! The property was gorgeous and the rental was spotless and welcoming. Would 100% recommend a stay here.
We rented this property for a girls trip. It was a beautiful property.definitely will book again.
Lovely place to stay! My friend and I loved the home- very clean, comfortable, and cozy. The location was absolutely beautiful. Also, it was great to be so close to the Shenandoah National Park.
Great getaway - all the furnishings of home. Secluded, nobody around but us. Watch the Winter Season's sunset view surrounded by a fence of mountains. Great property to explore. Stairs to enter.
Loved from the moment we arrived; attractive, clean, modern, with excellent automatic outdoor lighting. Property was neat and well groomed. Wow, once we got inside! Great attention to detail, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom (large shampoo/conditioner/body wash, hair dryer, etc.) with towels fluffier that we have at home. Beds were nicely made with nice bedding, good lighting throughout, even had a flashlight by the bed. Living room was excellent place to relax in between activities at a nearby family reunion. Hubs loved that it was a large modern smart TV like he is used to, not a typical small old TV you find in some places. Owner was extremely responsive and went above and beyond to answer every question we had, no matter how nitnoid. Her Dad even came down from main house to help us get access to the basic TV channels; every TV app you can think of was loaded on the TV, but we needed the basic channels to get Cowboys football for hubs. We will be back! Thank you for our lovely stay!
Everything was as expected. Very clean, comfortable and quiet. Great location from skyline Drive. I would stay there again.
Really liked the place. It’s tastefully decorated, well-appointed, and really quiet. Perfect for our little getaway.
Guest home was clean, with all the amenities you need to have a quiet little getaway away from the main Charlottesville area. Owners were awesome to deal with. Will definitely return when we require a place to stay in the Blue Ridge area!
We stayed there for three nights. It was four of us. Beautiful area and private. Plenty of room. Great location if your visiting the caverns (luray and Shanadoah caverns) and Monticello and other presidents homes around Virginia. The property puts you about equal distance to the caverns and Monticello. The place is clean, it has all the kitchen items you would need if want to cook…. Cook wear, plates, utensils, cups, etc. They provide towels and additional bedding. Has washer and dryer you can use and dishwasher if needed.
