Get the best of both worlds! Drive 4 miles to downtown Chattanooga to enjoy some of the best restaurants, art and music in the south, and then retreat to our Rocky Ledge Bunkroom on the side of Lookout Mountain. Walk out the front door and onto mountain trails for a 25 minute hike to Glen Falls, and explore the year-round majesty of Lookout Mountain. 5 min. drive to St. Elmo community center, the Incline Railway and a vibrant commercial district. 10 minutes from Rock City and Ruby Falls.
The Bunkroom is an extension of our barn workspace, a 225 sq.ft. room, with a private parking area and entrance. You should really like your travel-companion because the room is outfitted with a full/double bed, not a queen bed. :)

Bunkroom Manual:
• Parking: Dedicated parking is available for 2 cars in the lot just below the barn. The driveway is a little steep so if you have a low clearance vehicle, you'll want to hug the left side of the driveway. Guests will need to be able to climb one flight of stairs (no railing) in order to get to the Bunkroom from the parking area
• Glenn Falls road is winding, narrow and steep in some parts. It's only about 1/2 mile long, but if you're not used to mountain roads, then we would suggest checking in during daylight hours.
• Kitchenette: The kitchenette is equipped with a mini frig, microwave, coffee press, coffee grinder, drip coffee maker and tea kettle.
• Toilet: Please do not flush anything down the toilet aside from toilet paper. We are on a septic system and feminine hygiene products or any other man-made substance will not biodegrade.
• Water: The water from the tap is city water and is safe to drink.
• Thermostat: Feel free to adjust the temperature to your comfort level. The remote is mounted on the wall by the kitchenette. You can point the remote at the unit to adjust the temperature. To change the mode from “heat” to “cool” to “auto,” slide the panel down and press the “mode” button. If the unit is not cooling or heating in sync with the remote, then we would suggest turning the unit off and restarting it after a minute or so.
• TV: The TV is equipped with Roku TV which offers many viewing options such as Amazon Prime and Netflix. The TV is connected to our Amazon Prime account, so please enjoy anything labeled “Prime,” but any other movie options are prohibited unless you log in to your own personal account to purchase. The TV is on an extendable bracket that allows viewing from the bed or the sitting area.
• Wi-Fi: The network name and password is provided in the Bunkroom binder.
• Safety: We have lived on Glenn Falls for over 12 years now and have never experienced a theft or threat of any kind. Most people don’t know this road exists! However, there are coyotes, bobcats, and even a mountain lion and bear have been spotted in the area so forest-wanderings at night are for the brave of heart.
• Glen Falls Trail: To access the Glen Falls trailhead, walk down the road the way you drove up from St. Elmo, and at the sharp turn right, look ahead into the forest for the trailhead. A landmark for the trailhead is the caged drainage access to the left. Follow the map at the back of this manual to reach Glen Falls (approx. 25 min. hike). There are many trails branching off of the main trail, so we’d recommend snapping a photo of this map and taking it with you.
• Coffee: If you’re not familiar with a coffee press, here are some simple instructions: 1) Scoop 3 - 4 spoonfuls of beans into the coffee grinder 2) Push down the lid until the grinder stops, 3) Pour grounds into french press, add hot water, and set lid on top without pushing down the plunger 4) Wait 3 minutes 5) Push the plunger down to the bottom of carafe 6) Serve and enjoy!
Please don’t use water to clean the coffee grinder. Instead, you may wipe it out with a dry paper towel if you like.
• Chickens: Free-range chickens roam the property and you’re welcome to feed them 1 scoop of scratch grains per day. The container is hanging outside the sliding glass door, labeled “Bird Feed.” Please sprinkle feed in the grass to protect little chicken beaks from hard surfaces.
• Check-out is at 11am. We typically have back-to-back bookings so we appreciate you honoring this request to check out any time before 11am. Please leave the heat on during the winter to avoid freezing pipes, and the AC on during the summer to keep the room cool for future guests. The only other thing we request at check-out is that you text us on your way out. You can leave the door unlocked and key on the table when you leave.
* Any personal care products, cleaning products, or food products are available for your use during your stay with us. We want to invest in a good experience for all our guests, so please leave what you don’t use in the Bunkroom so future guests can also enjoy the same coffee and snacks. Make yourself at home!

The neighborhood:
St. Elmo, is a unique neighborhood - diverse in every way. It is also historic - one of the oldest communities in Chattanooga, formed in 1885. Many of the homes built in the early 20th century remain standing, and just in the past 10 years, there has been an increased interest in revitalizing the neighborhood. Along with new homes being built in vacant lots, there are a lot of old homes undergoing restoration. The 3 houses close to the Bunkroom date back over 100 years.

The decor was simple and nice, sophisticated.Joanna was the perfect host, very responsive and professional. I’m a woman traveling for work on my own. I felt safe and appreciated how private the room is.I’m especially pleased there was an electric kettle!!! Tea drinkers often get left out. Not here, though!!The chickens were also friendly. The room was very clean and well maintained. The only thing that we thought should be changed was there should be a queen size bed instead a full bed. It is hard for two grown adults to sleep comfortably on a full bed. Another suggestion would be to provide a handrail on the stepping stone stairs for safety. The stairs are too steep without something to hold onto, especially for senior guests. The room was well supplied with the necessities.

Joanna and Pete's place was so cozy and comfortable. Joanna even had nice touches like thick soft towels, goatmilk bodywash, French press coffee, popcorn and condiments. The room was large and airy. It was very close to Chattanooga and Rock City. Be sure to read the little booklet they leave in the suite to get to know the two of them and see all the information they provide about the area. They were such great hosts. Ohh...I also enjoyed seeing the free range chickens sit outside the patio door, waiting patiently for me to feed them a scoop of chicken feed.

Nestled back on a narrow road, upon a hill, lies this cozy little cottage at the edge of the wood. At first glance, it’s a storage building that has been converted to a live-in space. You walk up cobblestone steps on to a porch, open the door, and inside lies the most adorable living space! A bed, couch, shower and toilet, a mini-kitchen and dinner table…even a tv. There’s everything you need to accommodate your needs. Wake up in the morning and you may see a fawn at the edge of the woods or a fleeting squirrel, but you will most definitely be greeted by a cat or two and multiple chickens! The chickens are more friendly than the cats and they beg for feed. They never bothered me one bit. They are just pets. It’s a quiet neighborhood. You are close to Ft Oglethorpe with all kinds of places to eat, or chattanooga has many places to eat and be entertained. I will return if I am in the area again. The place wasn’t fragrant as many places are that have overpowering smells. The neighbors are quiet. It’s excellent for the price. I really had a great time!

Really cute place to stay! The bed is a full, so it was a little tight for my fiancée who is over 6’. The space is really small, but it is perfect for just a one night stay. I loved how quiet it was there. The road going to there is very narrow and steep, so be aware if going when it might be icy. If we were staying more than one night, the road would probably be enough for us to go elsewhere. Everything else was perfect! Very sweet people and I loved feeding the chickens!

We were travelling throughout Tennessee and planned a Sunday, one-night stay in Chattanooga. We found this rental after researching several hotels and other rental options. We rented it for the one night because for the price, it allowed us to stay in a more scenic and private location than a hotel. We also did not need what some of the more expensive rental VRBO and similar site's offerings provided. The owners/managers communicated proactively and effectively regarding how to check in and were very welcoming. We arrived in the dark, which despite its off the beaten path location on the side of a mountain was not difficult to find. Everything was clean. Towels, linens, and essential bathroom items were provided. The internet and TV with streaming services worked perfectly. Their welcome book provided several useful recommendations. We chose the 1885 restaurant for dinner based off their recommendation and it was a spectacular meal with great service. We recommend stopping at this restaurant as well as staying at this rental property! The rental worked perfectly for what we needed for our one-night stay. It would be great for a couple needing a place to stay for a short period while they spend the day out and about exploring. It would not be ideal for a longer stay or with children because of its size and lack of a fully functioning kitchen and normal cold food storage (they provide a small hotel-size refrigerator). Overall-- it was great!

The house was nice and clean. Great for just me and my husband the only issue was the parking is a little sketchy if your nor from the mountains and the drive in has a little construction so going around the curve to get into the driveway was also a little sketchy. However had nothing to do witht he property or owners. House and property were great and there was so many options on things to do right in the little area that we were staying.
