Stayed Jul 26, 2024This was a noisy basement apartment in the basement of an old house. The hosts live above. They also had noisy dogs that ran around. It was impossible to sleep well or even rest during the day in this place. The main problem with this place was the very thin floors above, and the heavy and light footsteps. The floors above were so thin that you could even hear light walking above you. You could hear literally every single footstep clearly. As a dual US-Canadian citizen, I have stayed in many short term rentals across North America and this was the only one I could not sleep well in or have peace in, due to the heavy and light footsteps above me. My stay here was very stressful. Because of the heavy footsteps in the morning when the hosts were getting ready for work, I was forced to wake up early everyday at the same time the hosts woke up. It felt like I was also going to the same job as them. It felt like I was roommates with the hosts. People renting or on vacation should not have to sleep and wake up at the same time as their hosts everyday. It was so bad that I had to book a separate hotel room just to sleep. I was basically paying for two places at the same time, since the rent for the basement was non-refundable. My advice to the hosts is if you know you want to make money from your basement or you are going to be renting your basement to vacationers or other renters, you should invest in sound proofing the floors above the basement or install padded carpets.
