Casa Sophia is a traditional Sicilian two-floor style house with a sunny terrace overlooking the rooftops of Ortigia. Always related to art, this house was the home of a famous Sicilian painter at the beginning of the last century, and it was later inhabited by a restorer and now owned by a theatre director. Casa Sophia is recommended for guests looking for an original, exclusive and chaos-free environment. It is bright and located in a quaint alley, it consists of a large bedroom with a vaulted ceiling and a classic small balcony overlooking the alley, a living room with a large and comfortable sofa bed, a bathroom and a kitchen with a dining area overlooking a courtyard. The flooring of the house dates back to the early 1900s. The terrace, perfect for lunches and dinners, is furnished with a table, chairs and an umbrella. With all its amenities, Casa Sophia can accommodate up to 4 persons. The famous Piazza Duomo is only 150 meters away. Its location allows guests to reach major sites with historical value within a few minutes of walking. Located approximately 200 meters away from the sea, it is also extremely close to the beautiful Church of St. John the Baptist, known as “San Giovannello” , the old Jewish baths, the Puppet theatre, bars, shops, restaurants, the shuttle stop, a supermarket, a bakery and much more.

A very characterful property bedecked with artistic reminders of the owners; very convenient for a stay in Syracuse and with a local delicatessen/ supermarket a few hundred meters away . the stairs to the roof garden are a bit steep but worth the climb and the shower was small for someone of 110+ kilos but otherwise perfect. Please note that the description fails to mention that they have air conditioning in the living room and a fan in the bedroom which was essntial during the heatwave.

If you prefer to stay in a place that genuinely feels lived in versus a sterile hotel room you would enjoy staying here. It’s a bohemian atmosphere filled with art and located in a residential neighborhood with the sounds of families nearby

We liked everything about this place - the narrow alley walkway lined with plants, the location - close to most everything, the apartment itself with a very well stocked pantry, art everywhere, a charming, plant filled roof top terrace. And Marco, the host manager was extremely helpful. We felt so fortunate to experience life in Ortigia there for a few days.

We loved our stay at Casa Sophia--as others have mentioned, it has a sweet quirkyness to it. We enjoyed dinner on the terrace and loved the location--so close to everything you want to see and experience. The checkin and checkout process was super easy. We highly recommend this property.

The property is right in the middle of the historic Ortigia Island in Siracusa and near all the sites. It is beautifully arranged and has lovely personal touches, even a bit quirky! There is a roof terrace with planting and steep steps, but as it was fairly cool on our visit we weren’t able to make best use of it. The welcome was outstanding and friendly and helpful, and they kept in touch with us during our stay. I thoroughly recommend this property.

Verry cozy place in the center of town with a nice roof terrace. Quiet at night. We felt at home in casa Sophia!

It was an old, quirky and charming apartment full of character and interesting pictures and objects. This made it feel cosy and lived in, like you were staying in someone’s home. We had a very helpful check in with tips and advice on where to visit and eat out. The apartment was in a great location, down some back streets, but near shops and cafés. Ortigia was a great place to stay, packed with history and great places to eat. Highly recommend!
