Great vintage building, updated. Contact owner about off season weekly or monthly rental, Nov - April.

There is another listing in this building with numerous reviews - its called 3BR home in great neighborhood - walk to ocean beach or downtown, parking, AC. (not being rented this year, but still on VRBO) I'm happy to answer any questions or concerns before booking, and will get back to you within the hour, usually.

Fully outfitted eat-in kitchen has large granite counter (with seating for three at the counter), a gas stovetop, ninja blender, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and - most other standard cooking necessities. There are two living rooms for easy gathering and talking – one large front room with bay windows, and a second living room set up as a lounge/TV room. Great place for kids and adults, as kids can have the bedroom in the back and adults can hang out in either living room without disturbing sleepers.

NOTE: We doing extra cleaning and are disinfecting doorknobs, TV remote, counters, and other places people regularly touch, with cleaners designed to prevent virus and bacteria. Hand sanitizer and wipes available for your use at the apartment.

• Easy on street parking
• Whole house fast wifi
• Washer/dryer available
• Pak N' Play; (1) Stroller; (1) High chair; (1) Baby monitor (1)
• Easy walk to downtown or take a taxi or Uber - it's inexpensive and hassle-free
• Walk (2 minutes) to Eastern Prom where in summer you can sit on the lawn, get some sun, and watch the sailboats, enjoy food from local gourmet food trucks. The East End beach is at the foot of the Prom, and options for launching kayaks, etc.

This is a charming vintage apartment which has been updated for comfort - on the first floor with totally separate entrance - nicely restored. You do need to come up 4 stairs to the front porch to get in. The entire building as well as the small yard area is nonsmoking, and all guests should be aware of this.

NEiGHBORHOOD: Safe, pleasant, and popular residential neighborhood very close to the Eastern Prom (greenspace overlooking Casco Bay) and East End Beach, and also to two local markets, three fantastic Hill restaurants (Jing Yan, The Front Room, and The Blue Spoon), and the Hilltop Coffee House (all about a 4 minute walk). Walking distance (10-15 minutes) to the Old Port, the Ferry to Casco Bay's islands, and downtown Portland as well. If you want a ride, Uber or Lyfte are active here and about $4-5 to get to Old Port. (Recommended because of crowded parking there)

FOOD/GROCERIES: Walk to the small local markets or hop in your car and grab groceries at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or Hannaford supermarket--all just 5 minutes away. Portland is a foodie town, and it's difficult to find a bad restaurant meal here.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: From your rental, you can hear fog horns, see the moon rise over the bay, or find a great meal at the local places - about a block away. From the East End at the foot of the Prom, Portland Trails provides a lovely walking trail along the water into downtown Portland. You can take a Ferry (or water taxi) over to one of the many islands in Casco Bay to spend the day paddling or walking around, or take the 'mail boat' which stops at a handful of islands and makes a fun day trip. Outlet shopping is 20 minutes away in Freeport – easy on to highway north from the Prom.

BEACHES: East End Beach (5 minutes walk) is located at the waterfront at Eastern Promenade Park. You can rent a kayak or SUP there. Other local beaches are an easy 15 minute drive to South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, or Scarborough.
REGIONAL ATTRACTIONS: By car, everything in the region is close - In five minutes you can be in the Old Port with its world class restaurants, 10 minutes to Portland Head Light, or easily get on the highway north to the to the Freeport attractions and shops like LL Bean. And if you're flying home at the end of your visit you can be at the airport and through security in about 35 minutes.

More about “the Hill” and Portland –
Munjoy Hill overlooks Portland’s most scenic waterfront.
The Hill is directly connected to Portland's extensive walking/running/biking trail system, including a beautiful 5-mile bayside and oceanside loop. From here you can walk or bike to the beach, numerous parks, and almost everywhere in Portland! The nearby Old Port is known for its cobblestone streets, small boutiques in beautifully refinished brick buildings, the docks where fishing boats still come back home after a day of fishing, and more restaurants per capita than any other city. Portland is considered a foodie's paradise.

The Downtown Arts District is home to galleries, theatre, the symphony, the Maine College of Art, and the renowned Portland Museum of Art. Each month, the First Friday Art Walk draws hundreds of culture-loving Portlanders and visitors. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, Portland hosts one of the top-rated Farmers' markets in the country.

Downeast Magazine's recent article 'Cool on the Hill' characterizes the area around the Eastern Prom as the hippest area in Portland. The apartment is steps from the Eastern Promenade park – overlooking Portland’s best section of waterfront, a beautiful lookout onto Casco Bay - and an easy 4 minute walk to several restaurants, Rosemont Market, and Hilltop Coffee. The Old Port and its attractions - including what seems like millions of incredible restaurants, shops, and the ferry to the islands, is at the bottom of the hill – about a 15 minute walk from the house. In the kitchen you'll find an extensive personal guide to the apartment, the neighborhood and area. We’ll be happy to provide more guidance as to restaurants, sailing, ferries, etc., if you like. The number and variety of options can be overwhelming.

I'm usually hesitant to review VRBOs, because I tend to have high standards and don't want to harm the owner. This VRBO has earned its 5 stars. The owner has taken the time to think through the needs of her guests. She has gotten every small detail right, from the availability of creamer in the fridge (stocked with eggs when we got there as well), to the phone chargers everywhere (each with 3 connectors, for each of the common standards), to the abundance of towels in the bathroom. Erna was communicative and helpful, and left out guides (updated for 2024) listing and rating nearby restaurants and attractions. The location itself is fantastic, near great restaurants and a park, and within walking distance to the main tourist hub. The streets were quiet and charming. There were high quality cocktail bars nearby, but no noise reached our street. I would highly recommend this location to anyone considering staying in Portland.

Great spot to stay in Portland! Easy walk to the beautiful promenade with a view of Casco Bay. Slightly longer but easily doable (and pleasant) walk to the downtown area. Apartment is charming and comfortable.

All I can say is wow! It was our first time in Maine and knew little to nothing about the area. Erna sent numerous links and itineraries to help us navigate our trip in one email. It helped tremendously. She knows Maine very well and her recommendations were on point. Her place is beautiful and roomy. Perfect for our family of 5. The house is in the cutest neighborhood and in walking distance to the Promenade and East End beach. The food trucks were delicious! We also went on a train ride with our 3 year old granddaughter. So fun! My girls love the beach and we didn’t bring chairs. Erna brought us ones we could use. So thoughtful. It was a fantastic stay with a thoughtful and kind host. I highly recommend this place.

We had a great time at Ernas place on Munjoy Hill. The communication was easy and the place looked exactly like the pictures. The apartment was very clean and equipped with everything we needed and then some. We parked our cars Friday night and literally walked everywhere we wanted to go, including the old port and ferry terminal. The water pressure and wifi were both very strong. We wouldn't change a thing! Thank you, Erna, for your hospitality!

Perfect location for a quick walk to to the beach with amazing views and a park. A short mile walk to TONS of dockside restaurants and shops. More than enough room for 4 of us. The house had everything we needed and Erna was very responsive and easy to communicate with. The house was clean, everything was in order and we had a wonderful stay.
