Can’t wait to go back
A most beautiful place to enjoy time with family. The hosts provide a game room a lovely lake for swimming as well as paddle boats.and a wonderful swing that all the kids thoroughly enjoy. This is our 4th year at Meadows of Dan and all of us look forward to our next visit.
We needed this trip after the past year. We are both essential workers. Our host Ann and Jerry we so friendly and helpful with tips for places to eat. The lake cabin was just perfect for the two of us. The decor was old fashion and charming. The cabin faced the lake and provided fun when we took out the paddle boat. We sat out on the deck and enjoyed the sounds of nature and the reflections on the pond. The beds were out of this world comfortable. We cannot wait to come back and do more fishing and exploring. We did find a few pieces of Fairy Stones when we visited the state park. The local Jane's Cafe had great food. We ate at the Stuart family Restaurant twice.
A natural setting with a lovely little lake (kayak-plus provided) - We stayed in the 2-bedroom cabin, which was quite comfortable. Mayberry Meadows is about 20 miles from Floyd, a nice drive actually, part along the Blue Ridge Parkway by Mabry Mill, with easy access to area wineries. Our hosts were great. We'd stay again.
My family (2 adults and 2 kids ages 9 and 11) enjoyed a long weekend at the lake cabin. It was everything we wanted! The cabin itself was cute, clean, and rustic. All the cooking utensils, etc. we needed were available, even towels to use for the lake. I was concerned that the fridge would be tiny because the description said mini fridge, but it was plenty big - apartment size, not dorm room size. :) I thought the description said there was washer/dryer, but it may have been up at the white house. No big deal, just something to note. We spent most of our time enjoying the lake. It was beyond glorious to have the lake to ourselves. We fished, toured around the lake in the paddle boat, kayak and john boat, and the kids even swam one day when it was warm enough. The only boat we didn't try out was the canoe. Life jackets, floats, etc are all right there by the lake to use. The kids also enjoyed playing ping pong and swinging on the swing, and we all enjoyed the fire pit at night. We had a blast! I wish we could have stayed longer.
This retreat was a getaway for friends in education before starting our school year in an unprecedented manner. We were not able to travel like we usually do and looked forward to this weekend. The cabin was very cute and suited our needs for the 2 night stay. The grounds were great. No one was staying in the farm house so we had the common areas to ourselves. I would recommend if you're looking for the solitude we were looking for. The owner's brother was there and he was just awesome!! We brought our dog, a Labrador, and oh my goodness he had the most fabulous time with area to run freely and the water! The water flotation items were varied and plentiful. My only negative comments would be on the accuracy of the listing. I was beyond shocked to see an additional fee for having more than 2 people for a cabin that says it can sleep 6. No where in the description does it state this stipulation. In addition, the calendar was not updated. It showed a 3 day weekend available, but upon booking we were told that it was only available for 2 nights. Finally, it says in the description that there is a minimum 3 days between guests, but we checked in the same day someone checked out. We were reassured the place was properly sanitized and I don't doubt it. I would love to stay again. The area is beautiful. The owner was very quick in getting back about questions. Overall- a good getaway.
Our stay at the cabin here was everything we hoped for and more. First, Ann and Jerry were great hosts-- the cabin is a separate unit and quite private, but Ann and Jerry are often around and happy to check how we're doing and offer tips on activities on property and in the area. The cabin comfortably sleeps four, but the day bed was our evening hang out spot and can easily sleep one more there in the living room. We had access to a charcoal grill right off of our deck (they may switch to a gas one which would be easier for most guests). From the back deck, all we could see is the lake, making it feel much more like a secluded private spot, which was nice. The various boats there were all great options to explore the lake, which itself is quite small but a good option for casual swimming and even fishing (mostly bluegill). Our kids loved having access to the game room for foosball, ping pong, and badminton. And the rope swing might have been their favorite feature of all. With so much to do on the property we had to pry them away to explore, but the location is also great for trips to nearby highlights on the BR Parkway, as well as nice walks or bike rides to nearer places like the Trading Post. We look forward to coming back very soon!
The cabin was all we expected and more. The setting was serene with easy access to a small lake, two docks, a jon boat, canoes and kayaks. My wife, stepdaughter and son-in-law stayed three nights in August and were rejuvenated and refreshed. The area is very quiet with easy access to local farmer's markets and vineyards. The Blue Ridge Parkway was less than a 1/2 mile away and not too far from major interstates, but far enough that we didn't even know they were there. The property owners were very gracious and responded rapidly to any questions or concerns prior to our trip. We met the owners as we were checking out and learned even more about the cabin and surrounding area. I'm sure we will stay at this cabin again.
We wanted to get away from everything and relax somewhere remote. The property is perfect, just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stayed in the cabin which had a great view of the water and had many more provisions than I expected (TP, Paper towels, cleaning supplies, etc...). The cabin was the perfect size for the three of us and the bathroom had a very nice shower. The grill worked well and we had a good time trying out the canoe, paddleboat, and kayak. We also played ping pong, croquet, and badminton! We didn't really swim. We did hang out on the floating dock. First day we visited Nancy's Candy and we were able to order curbside chocolate. Our trip to the nearby orchard was not something I would recommend for small children. It was on a hillside and you had to climb tall ladders to pick. We spent a couple of hours one day in Meadows of Dan and browsed the shops. One was closed on Tuesday (bummer.) There is so much beautiful scenery and I could imagine bringing a much larger group here for a wonderful time just relaxing together! Also would have gone to the winery nearby if it wasn't just me and the kids! Highly recommend!!!
We wanted a low key, low COVID-risk vacation. This worked out great. No unruly crowds, beautiful scenic area, plenty of room to relax. Restaurant availability is rather sparse, early in the week, but we were able to find good places when we wanted to eat out. The rest of the time we prepared our own meals at the cabin. We enjoyed our stay.
