Background, General Information and Weather in Columbia, Tennessee –
Columbia is a city located in Maury County, Tennessee. It is also the county seat. At the time of the 2010 census the population here was 34,681. In 2013 the population had only increased slightly to 35,558. As of the most recent non census related poll taken in 2016, the population stands at approximately 37,540. This portion of Tennessee became incorporated back in 1817. Columbia is known as the “Mule capital of the world.” Columbia celebrates something called “Mule Day” each April. Mule Day is a celebration of all things related to mules. This Columbia staple started back in 1840 as “Breeder’s Day” which was basically a meeting for all mule breeders. Toady this event attracts more than 200,000 people and takes place over four days. Besides mules you will find things like live music, dancing, crafts and traditional Appalachian food. This event is something that people who live here look forward to each year. Columbia is also referred to as the “Antebellum Homes Capital of Tennessee.” This is due to Columbia having more pre-Civil War homes than any other county in the entire state. According to the United States Census Bureau, Columbia is a total of 29.6 square miles in size with that all being land and no bodies water. When it comes to the weather here in Columbia it falls into the category of “Humid Subtropical.” This means that the summer months will be hot and muggy and the winter months will be very cold and wet. It is also partly cloudy here year round. The temperatures can vary greatly throughout the course of the year. The winter months can sometimes dip down to below 16 degrees. The summer months can often times see temperatures reach close to 100 if you include the heat index. The hot season here lasts for close to four months. From the end of May until about mid September the daily average high is just about 81 degrees. The low for this time is a cool 70 degrees. The warmest time here is during the month of July when the daily average high is just about 90 degrees. The cold season on the other hand lasts for three months exactly. From the end of November until the end of February the daily average high is roughly 56 degrees. The low for this time is just below the freezing mark at 31 degrees. The coldest time of the year here is during January. One of the perks of moving to Columbia is that you will see less than three inches of snow per year. This is great if you were looking to move somewhere that does not require you to stock up on rock salt for the cold months. Although you will not see a ton of snow in Columbia it does tend to precipitate a decent amount. You can expect to see just south of 60 inches of rain per year.

Movie Star Looks –
The film “The Green Mile” was filmed in Williamsport which is right near Columbia back in 1999. Ten years later in 2009 “Hannah Montana: The Movie” was filmed in Downtown Columbia. This city has also been used as a backdrop for several other films due to its rural beauty.

If you are 21 and over you can head to the “Asgard Brewing Company” which is a destination brewery that focuses on quality craft beer that uses natural and locally sourced ingredients. Most times there are food trucks right outside as well as live music and outdoor seating. They are closed on Mondays so make sure you keep that in mind when thinking of visiting. If you are looking for a little family friendly fun then you can take the kids and head over to “Duck River Books.” This adorable Independent bookstore is located on the square in historic downtown Columbia. Here you will find new books as well as secondhand books as well as thousands of other titles in various categories. If you were looking for a local butcher shop, Columbia has one of those. The Tallgrass Meat Company is a craft butcher shop with its eye on health, nutrition and holistic wellness.
