LaBelle is in Hendry County, Florida. It is also the county seat. The population here in the year 2000 was 4,210. Then at the 2010 census the population increased slightly to 4,640. As of 2016 the population here was just shy of 4,800. So the population here has increased at a fairly slow rate in recent years but is expected to increase slightly more by the next census. The city was named after Laura June Hendry and her sister Carrie Belle. These women were the daughters of Francis Asbury Hendry who was a pioneer cattleman, politician and officer in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. If you were to look on a map you would see that LaBelle is located on the South side of the Caloosahatchee River. Florida State Road 80 passes right through the center of LaBelle. If you take this road East for 31 miles you will wind up in Clewiston. If you take this road West for 30 miles you will end up in Fort Myers. According to the United States Census Bureau, LaBelle is a approximately 14.5 square miles in size.

The climate here in LaBelle is categorized as “Humid Subtropical.” This means that the summer months tend to be very long, hot and wet. The winters on the other hand tend to be very short and cool but not freezing. The hottest part of the year here goes for five months which is significantly higher than in other portions of the country that have a humid subtropical climate. From May 3rd until October 2nd the daily average high here is around 87 degrees. The low for this time is a very comfortable 74 degrees. The coolest part of the year here lasts for only two and a half months which is great if you prefer to live in a warm climate most of the year. From the beginning of December until almost the end of February the daily average high is 78 degrees which is close to the low during the warmer months. The low for this part of the year is just about 52 degrees. The temperature will rarely drop below 37 degrees during the winter or go above 95 during the summer. Because the weather never drops to the freezing point, LaBelle does not receive any snow. But it does rain a decent amount here, about 53 inches per year. LaBelle also has around 260 sunny days a year which is much higher than the national average of 205. The weather alone is reason enough to move here!

One of the main subdivisions here in LaBelle is “Port LaBelle.” This subdivision is a mixture of older homes as well as new construction. A vast majority of the homes in this area are listed under $200,000. The homes here are detached, single family and have more than enough room inside. This subdivision is just one of the many found here. Then there is the “Riverbend Motorcoach Resort” which is a RV Resort for Class A motor homes. Here you purchase the land and park your motor home here. The land available for sale here is located on more than 1,000 feet of the Caloosahatchee River. One of the most interesting things about this five star rated resort is that there are no other Motorcoach resorts to compare it to in the Southeast. Swamp Cabbage Festival
Here in LaBelle there is the famous “Swamp Cabbage Festival” that celebrates the state tree, the cabbage palm. This festival happens in February every year and has everything from a 5K run to a fishing tournament, rodeo and beauty pageant. There are also tons of other family friendly activities including a block party for you to enjoy. Locals here in LaBelle look forward to this event every year. There is a Grand Marshall and Festival Queen that are crowned every year at this festival. This tradition dates all the way back to 1967! This beloved event brings the town together which’s gives LaBelle that small town feel.
