Learn More About Orlando:

Orlando is a major city in Orange County, located in central Florida. Orlando proper has a population of more than 262,000 however the greater Orlando metropolitan area boasts a population of more than 2,387,000, making it the 24th largest metropolitan area in United States. Orlando is famous for being one of the worlds most popular tourist destinations as it wears the crown of the ‘theme park capital of the world.’ The crown jewel of course being Disney World which first opened in 1971.

Orlando features a humid subtropical climate which sees highs reaching 71 in the winter months and 92 in the summer months. This favourable climate is a key reason why Orange County is the heart of the citrus industry in Florida.

If you're someone who can't get enough of amusement parks, Orlando is definitely the place for you. Here you’ll have year-round access to Walt Disney World as well as Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Studios Florida, Sea World, Gatorland, and Wet-n-Wild just to name a few. This is perhaps the most popular destination for someone who prefers constant access to some of the top amusement parks in the world.

Orlando takes pride in its nickname of ‘the city beautiful’ and there’s no question that one of the main reasons for this is the scenic Lake Eola which sits in the middle of the downtown core. It’s now the central component of Lake Eola Park which features a nine-mile sidewalk that circles the entire lake, ideal for scenic walks or bike rides. The lake is famous for its swans which return every year and so feeding the swans is a very popular pastime for Orlando residents. You can also take swan-shaped paddle boats out on the lake to enjoy some fun on the water.

Orlando takes great pride in its many offerings of art and culture. The Orlando Museum of Art and the Cornell Fine Arts Museum offers a nice mix of both traditional and modern pieces for the visitors to enjoy. The Dr. Phillips Centre for Performing Arts is home to various performances including Broadway, pop, rock, jazz, and dance. There’s also the Orlando Ballet which features both contemporary classic pieces.

Schools in Orlando are administered by the Orange County Public School District, one of the larger school districts in the state of Florida. The Orange County School District has been recognized for its high achievement in the area of urban school education. In October 2014, the district was awarded The Broad Prize For Urban Education, which is often described as the Nobel Prize for urban schools across the country.

Orlando is a city that truly has something for everyone. It has all the major urban amenities without losing its sense of community spirit. It has world-class recreation and tourist attractions along with high-quality arts and cultural attractions. For these reasons, it’s a little surprise that per a pew research study in 2009 Orlando was the fourth most popular American city Based on where people wanted to live.
