Background on North Port
North Port can be found in Sarasota County, Florida. It is part of the North Part – Bradenton – Sarasota Metro Area. Originally North Port was named North Port Charlotte and was even incorporated under that name in 1959. It wasn’t until 1974 that the “Charlotte” was dropped from North Port’s name. This was due to the city residents wanting North Port to have a separate identity from other areas of the metro area. The population here as of 2016 was just around 65,000. According to the United States Census Bureau North Port is approximately 104 square miles and of that 104 miles, roughly 5 of that is made up of water. North Port contains a large amount of residential subdivisions as well as a network of streets. One of the most notable areas in North Port is Warm Mineral Springs. Warm Mineral Springs has a free flowing artesian spring and is a highly sought after area. A large section of Warm Mineral Springs was annexed by the municipality of North Port and is now part of the city. Warm Mineral Springs is less than three square miles but is one of the most beautiful places in all of North Port.

Schools in North Port
In North Port there is one public charter school as well as five elementary schools, two middles and one high school. The Imagine School at North Port is the lone charter school in the area and is available for children in grades kindergarten through twelfth grade. When it comes to higher education in North Port there are a few options in the greater Sarasota area as well as other areas of Florida. There is the Ringing College of Art and Design located in Sarasota. Keiser University, State College of Florida, Suncoast Technical College, University of Phoenix and the University of South Florida Sarasota – Manatee.

New Home to the Atlanta Braves
One of the biggest things happening in North Port is the addition of a Spring Training facility for the Atlanta Braves. The stadium will be open for the 2020 baseball season and is expected to cost approximately $125 million to construct and span about 70 acres. It will hold 8,500 people once construction is completed in late 2019. The Atlanta Braves made the decision to extend their contract with Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex where they have been training at since 1997 so there would be enough time for construction to take place at the new facility. This training facility will not only boost the local economy by millions of dollars, it will also employ several hundred people when it opens.
