Hollywood is a city located in Broward County, Florida. Part of the Miami Metropolitan Area, it is considered one of the principal cities in Florida with a population of over 110,000 people. The city is located in the southeast tip of the Florida Peninsula and is delimited by the Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by cities like Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, and Cooper City.
 
Hollywood was founded in 1925 by Joseph W. Young, who wanted to build a motion picture colony on the other coast of the United States. Inspired by the west coast film industry, he named his dream city Hollywood as well. Young had a plan to have lakes and golf courses and luxury resorts in his new city, but the 1926 hurricane destroyed his dream, when it devastated the newly founded Hollywood.
 
Even though it had a stream of bad luck during its first few decades - being on the hurricane path took its toll on the city - Hollywood has overcome its obstacles and now thrives as a successful business hub. Several companies have found a home in Hollywood, like the Continental Group, Invicta Watch Group and HEICO, all of which feature as some of the top employers in the city.
 
With a tropical monsoon climate, Hollywood has very hot and humid summers and warm and dry winters, which makes it the perfect getaway for those looking to escape the freezing winters of the north. The city boasts of no less than 60 parks, including the ArtsPark at Young Circle, which is named after the city’s founder and offers several activities for visitors and residents alike. There are miles of beautiful beaches, with the famous Hollywood boardwalk with countless restaurants, bars and stores for you to enjoy while staying a few feet away from the ocean.
 
Despite the proximity to such a big tourist hotspot like Miami, Hollywood is not a very expensive city to live. The average annual income for a family is approximately $55,000 and the cost of living in town is only 5% higher than other cities in the United States, which makes it a perfect place for those who work in the big city, but would rather come home to the peace and quiet of a smaller town by the beach. 
 
For those who have children, the educational system in Hollywood is varied and extensive, boasting with 32 public and charter schools, such as Hollywood Park Elementary School, Hollywood Academy of Arts and Science K-8 and Hollywood Hills High School; and 13 private ones, like Aukela Christian Military Academy, Pembroke Park Montessori School and St. Mark's Lutheran School.
