The Porlock Hill takes travelers up a steep, winding road out of the village to the Exmoor Hills, where walkers, horse riders and cyclists will love the open space, where ponies and red deer roam the moors. In 2011, Exmoor was designated as Europe’s first International Dark Skies Reserve, and so this is an excellent base for a romantic evening spent gazing at the stars, where a clear night unveils an abundance of interesting constellations to the naked eye. Porlock offers the choice of sea fishing from the weir, and the reservoirs and rivers of Exmoor are only a short, scenic drive away. Golfers can stay in Porlock and enjoy one of the several courses on the edges of Exmoor, with the nearest only seven miles away. The property is stone built and is attached at one corner to the owners farmhouse next door. The farm has a unique vantage point across the valley, with barely another property in sight. Very quiet and secluded.brbrSorry, but we are unable to accept children under 5 years, as this is a working farm with ponds and livestock. For a great day out hop onto the West Somerset Steam Railway just around the corner and ride the rails through Somerset villages. Wonderful walks surround you, head up North Hill or over to Alcombe, Exmoor has miles and miles of walks as well suitable for all abilities! The wonderful medieval village of Dunster with its fabulous castle, now owned by the national trust is just a couple of miles away. Renovated in 2021 and furnished throughout, it is well-suited for family holidays and within easy reach of shops, restaurants and the beach. On entering the front door you are welcomed by the hallway with the living room off to the right. There is direct access from the living room through French doors to a private walled garden.brbrTo the left of the hallway is a separate dining room which seats six comfortably, benefiting from a large window with a sunny aspect to the garden. This leads down a step into the large kitchen and breakfast bar area. The kitchen is well-equipped with all new appliances, accessories, crockery, cutlery and glasses. In addition, there is a large breakfast bar with three stools. Upstairs from the hall you reach the half landing, then to the left up a few further stairs is the twin bedroom and down a step to the master bedroom which has a super kingsize bed that can be converted to two singles upon request. To the right of the half landing are a few further stairs to the family shower room and the double bedroom which has an en-suite bathroom.brbrOutside, there is a private enclosed walled garden which is perfect for relaxing and enjoying al fresco dining amongst our palm trees or a barbecue evening, with ample outdoor seating for all the family on the decking area. There are two private parking spaces exclusively for guests to use, and two dogs are allowed to stay for no additional charge.brbrMinehead sits on the edge of Exmoor National Park and is the starting point of the Southwest National Coastal Path, the UK’s longest countryside trail.
