The Portuguese are warm and very helpful people and many can speak English. brbrFuseta is a small town in the Ria Formosa in the eastern Algarve only 20 kms from Faro. Fuseta was originally a collection of small huts kept to store tools for fishing boats and now has developed but is still very traditional and touristic. The town is known for its quaint cubed houses with their terraces and interesting chimneys.brbrFuseta has two beaches within walking distance of the apartment: a small beach on the lagoon in the town itself and a ocean beach is just across the lagoon on the Island of Armona (short, cheap and frequent ferry ride). The Ocean beach extends for miles so those seeking more peace and privacy can walk 10 minutes to have the beach almost to themselves! Spend the day here and relax in the restaurant, bars and cafes.brbrFaro, the capital of the Algarve is a great place to visit for its history, particularly attractive is the old part of the city still surrounded by the Roman walls. It is the home to the city's archaeological museum. The 'Golden' church contains the Macabre Spectacle of a chapel lined with the bones of 1,200 monks! brbrOlhão is a busy modern town with a gem of a waterfront. Its fishing port is the most important in the Eastern Algarve and its fish market is the biggest. Has many shops, restaurants and an entire summer festival devoted to sea food. You can take boats to the island villages and beaches of Armona, Culatra and Farol - all great day trips. brbrTavira, 20 minutes away by car is a wonderful mix of the unexpected and the unusual. You will find a 13th century castle, the old gate of the city, a Camera Obscura, a magnificent Roman bridge, a beautiful garden with bandstand, and the old market hall which has been converted into a cafe/restaurant and craft shops area. There are many churches for which Tavira is famous. The Barril beach, Monte Gordo or Monta Rota are often voted as the best beaches.brbrThere are water parks to the west, zoo marine where you can swim with the dolphins and go carting all within 55 mins drive.
