The property is in excellent condition throughout and has been built and finished to a very high standard. The cottage once was one of original 18 railway gatekeeper cottages built along the Galway to Clifden railway that operated between 1895-1935. Only a few still remain today. The Oughterard area is considered to be the fishing capital of Ireland. Lough Corrib has an international reputation for its fine brown trout. Trout fishing usually commences in mid-May during the Mayfly season. The village provides lots of places to eat and drink and has an abundance of shops which will supply you with everything you need for your self-catering holiday.
