Rafeen History:
Rafeen is a historic house, built in 1831 as part of the military Garrison, which together with our neighbours (Geneva, a single-storey building at the time, and Letchworth House) were built as the Ordnance Hospital and later used as the soldiers’ library.

Several artefacts from military times were found when Rafeen was renovated about 40 years ago, and these are preserved and framed in the dining room.

Rafeen is listed by the Barbados National Trust as a building of historic interest.

Beautiful historic home in the heart of South Barbados. Overlooking the Garrison Horse Race track. Close to everything, bus stop right outside, ZR's pass by the bottom of road, take you to Oistins, Worthing, Rockley or in the other direction Carlisle Bay. Savvy is a 25 minute walk with kids. Home is full of character, clean and spacious, and wild life, monkeys, chickens, and birds and iguanas. Pool is a good size. Bedrooms have AC which is much needed in the humid months. Very comfortable and peaceful. There are guard dogs out next door, they are out 24/7 so you may or may not hear them depending on where you sleep. Not every night and was not a problem. It would be noisier on the main high road with the buses beeping! Felt very homely and safe and cannot wait to return. Shared drive with another property, but they were not home, if they were it wouldnt have bothered us, they are set back behind Rafeen. Management were great and very helpful. We didnt get a car but may do next year, mostly for food shopping as Massey is a bus ride or taxi away and cheaper than the local mini mart. Thank you for a fabulous stay Rafeen!

Rafeen Villa is a beautiful and historic home perfectly located opposite the Garrison Savannah racetrack in Barbados. It’s an ideal base with easy access to the south and west coasts, as well as Bridgetown. We spent 10 amazing days here and loved every minute. The villa has a gorgeous garden with a pool and visiting wildlife — lizards, a rooster, and even a monkey (spotted by my friend — I was jealous!). The front veranda was our favorite evening spot, with pretty ambient lighting and space to unwind. There’s plenty of parking, though we only rented a car for part of our trip. ZRs stop just nearby and are a fun, easy way to get around. We also used Pick Up Barbados (like Uber), which was very reliable and affordable.Inside, the villa is full of character and history, marked by a green heritage plaque at the gate. The furnishings are charming and unique, with a grand dining room, comfy lounge (with cable TV and Sonos), and spacious bedrooms. Everyone slept really well — such a bonus!Gin and Steve, who manage the property, were wonderful — friendly, helpful, and super responsive. Even when the island had power and gas outages, they were quick to assist. Communication before arrival was also excellent.Would we stay again? Absolutely! We didn’t want to leave — and we’re still dreaming of going back! See you soon Rafeen Villa, we had a blast 3
