Stayed Dec 28, 2025We had the most amazing stay at the August beach house where we were spoilt rotten by Neeta and Tharanga, with all our requests being met by Sooriya and Sena kept us safe at night. Such a wonderful family surfing holiday for all of our 2 families with us being forced to do nothing but relax. Thoroughly recommend Michelle place- thank you!

Stayed Mar 29, 2019This was probably one of our favorite vacations and a lot of that had to do with this house! The location was absolutely perfect. The design of the house was so thoughtful. We were 2 families. 7 people. Everyone had their own space and bathroom. The house was stocked with little things like books, dvds, towels, games. Neeta was so special. We joked about trying to take her home with us. Shehan was a rockstar. He was on top of everything each morning. And Sooriya was there to help around the house and in the evening. And Joe the overseer booked our transportation, organized massages, gave ideas and booked tours for us. He was so awesome! I will highly recommend this house to everyone I know going to Sri Lanka. I really hope we will get to return one day.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969A well maintained four bed room house located close to the Weligama Town in Sri Lanka. We spent one week with our daughter, three grand children and family. With direct access to the beach we enjoyed watching our grand children play in the waves and learn surfing. The staff was very friendly and helpful and prepared very good food. The house is well equipped with all amenties and is an excellent place to relax and enjoy a family holiday.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969The Weligama Boathouse truly gave us such a memorable holiday. Travelling with kids is not always easy, yet this place felt like home instantly thanks to its decor, facilities, staff and personal touches like board games, books etc. Right on the beach, we woke up everyday to go surfing, would come back to some beautifully cooked meals and for anything else, we were just a short stroll away from Weligama town. I would highly recommend this place for those kind of holidays where you'd like to zone out and relax. We can't wait to get back sometime. Thanks Michelle, Nishani, Thushara, Sunny and James. x

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Our stay in The Boat House definitely lived up to expectations and beyond. The staff were quietly efficient, and attentive, whilst Sunny sorted everything we asked of him. We particularly enjoyed the trip he helped us arrange to Handungoda Tea Plantation, followed by lunch & a swim at Kahanda Kanda -- absolutely brilliant! One small suggestion we have is that a couple of the bedrooms would benefit from a few hooks or rails to hang up bits & pieces. All in all , a very special place & a wonderful holiday.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This is our 2nd trip to the Boat House and we love it. While only a short break it was just what was needed. The location is great. Everything is within easy walking distance and the staff couldn't any do more to help and make your stay memorable. This place is quickly becoming our favourite go to Holiday HOuse.

Stayed Dec 17, 2016Owner was terrific in very late booking assistance, arranged driver for group of 7. I didn't realize that staff would be on hand all-day/evening including all-night security guard. Gorgeous location, but missing key amenities for family vacation. For example, the kitchen looks nice, but barely furnished for family cooking - no oven, small cooktop, 1 pot, really poor lighting at night. And supermarket is just ok. Super great beach just steps away, but no beach chairs, no beach games except 2 scrappy body boards. Wish there was more sun in garden too - trees are tidy but block a lot of the surf view and sun. I loved the LOOK of the roofless bathroom, but not when it rained. Also, AC unit dripped right next to toilet which is where only towel rack is. In that separated ground floor bedroom, the carpet is musty and old. Not sure the duvet was changed - even with AC on, it felt damp and smelled (I have a sensitive nose). The other bedrooms were comfortable. I think this was WAY too expensive a stay once I had to pay for eating out and/or staff cooked meals. I kind of wished I considered the youth hostel across the street. It was clean, good food, GREAT view (little quieter) and WAYYYY cheaper. Sorry, Michelle. Do some not too difficult updates and I'd consider going back.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969I am a Norwegian traveling with my girlfriend. We stayed at Michelle's lovely house on Welligama beach. From the time we stepped off the plane everything was taken care of. The house is situated right on a famous surfing break in Sri Lanka. Its for every level, but particularly good for people want to have a go. The house was very big and fresh! Also the workers there were lovely, making tasty local breakfast dished every morning. We had a blast and will come again for sure. The location is nice and quite, but only a short tuk tuk ride to more action in Unewatuna. Also neighbour restaurant was very good. Two thumbs up!!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969We took a last minute holiday to SL, and stayed in two houses - Marleys near Unwatuna, and The Boathouse on Weligama Bay (reviewed here). Both houses were lovely, and provided quite different holiday experiences. At The Boathouse, we loved the direct access to the beach, and steady surfing waves. Given we aren't experienced surfers (but loved the idea of being one..), this house and beach is perfect as provides a steady, safe swell over sand rather than rocks. The house is great for a large family or two small families with the cottage creating a little privacy for the in-laws.. Nice artwork too. The kids also utilised the pool at W15 less than 100 metres away whenever we ate at the restaurant, then went home to our own private house. Kind of the best of two worlds! Thanks again to all, Eli
