Stayed Jul 19, 2025The location and house are beautiful. Rita the chef was amazing and her meals delicious. She helped to make this a very relaxing vacation. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a beautiful place for a family vacation. There were 9 of us, 4 teenagers and 5 adults. The only 2 things I would suggest would be to have a different living room sofa. It was in great shape but having a large bolster back and not an anchored back made it great to lay on but uncomfortable to sit on. Second I would suggest letting your tenants know ahead of time that there is night time security. Freddy was great but it was a little unnerving the first night having someone you didn’t know about prowling the yard.

Stayed Jul 2, 2025Casa Royal was perfect for me, my 3 adult children, 3 spouses and 4 grandchildren. The house is beautiful and the house and the view were even better than the pictures! The black sand beach wasn't ever crowded and the hermit crabs at dusk were fun for the kids. We had some sunsets that were out of this world as well. The older grandkids loved catching the waves on the boogie board. There were plenty of chairs for the beach and 2 outdoor showers. We had iguanas, loads of butterflies, dragonflies and birds. Our chef Rita was fantastic! Her meals were all top notch and we were so pampered with not having to shop for food or clean up after meals. Rita and her husband Juan took great care of us. Her battered and fried fish was so delicious and the fresh tropical fruit was amazing. Don't miss the Tico breakfast - we had it twice.Potrero is a cute little town and the market is within a five minute walk of the house. We visited Flamingo beach and Tamarindo which were both a short drive from Potrero. The catamarand tour and ziplining, ATVing and animal rescue tour were both so much fun for everyone in the family. The couch in the main living area had to be moved so the unattached backs wouldn't keep falling off but once we rearranged it was comfortable. The only negative was the range of the wifi wasn't great, but we really weren't on devices much. I appreciated the security guard that patrolled all night every night that we were there.Beautiful property!!

Stayed Mar 22, 2025Very pleased with property. We had stayed there in 2019 also. A couple disappointments, only four lounge chairs around pool. Pictures show 5. Two of them were pretty worn. We had 11 adults so four lounge chairs did not work well. Although the property had added beach chairs since our last visit so we used those around pool.Rita the chef was really special!!! Her good was outstanding! Also the landscaping was tired and not well kept.

Stayed Jan 18, 2025There were 13 in our group. The house was perfect for our group. The location was great, We could walk everywhere ever though we had a 6 person golfcart. The house was perfect and we really enjoyed eating our meals on the porch everyday. The pool was warm and sunny and the yard provided just the right amount of shade when you needed it. The beach in front of the house was great and we rarely saw anyone on the beach. But the jewel of the house was Rita, the cook. Everyone was very helpful and accommodating as far as setting up excursions. Thanks again and we will be back.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969The house was better than the pictures! We had 8 adults and 7 kids at the house, there was plenty of room and the outside living space is amazing! The outdoor table fit our whole family. Kitchen was well equipped. Beach front was very swimmable for the kids . We walked to several restaurants and bars all were kid friendly. We will be back!! The road directly in front of the house is unfinished, but don't let that scare you off. The living room couch upstairs is very awkward, and not really a good place to hang inside for a large group, lucky the weather was so amazing we spent most of our time on the outside furniture which was very comfortable.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This was a beautiful home, very spacious and well-equipped with a fantastic location right on the beach. The pool and backyard were very well maintained and the views from the upper balcony were incredible with the most amazing sunsets. Plenty of space for our party of 8. Protrero was much quieter than some of the other nearby towns but still had plenty of restaurants. The Costa Rica Sailing Club was a 2 minute walk from the house where you could rent sail boats, paddle boards, and kayaks, and organize boat/sailing/fishing trips. Would absolutely stay here again! A small drinks refrigerator downstairs would be nice. Upstairs sofas are really weird and uncomfortable. Water is switched in most rooms, which took a while to figure out. In the garage, the red faucet was cold and blue, hot so our first load of 'cold' laundry was run with very hot water.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969This house was perfect for our group of 13. Walking distance to restaurants, a market & massages on the beach. We LOVED having Rita & her daughter cook for us each day. It was such a nice service & a surprisingly good value. Margue the concierge was extremely helpful at coordinating transfers & excursions & super quick at answering any questions we had. We found the heat mid-day to be a little oppressive but loved hanging out on our covered front patio with fans it was comfortable for our morning coffee or evening wine. Definitely a highlight of the house. We would highly recommend this house!

Stayed Dec 31, 1969The location of the house on Playa Potrero was away from the crowds of places like Tamarindo but had enough activities and places around to stay as busy as we wanted. Dealing with the concierge, Maria, at Tropical Homes, was what made the trip over the top, arranging anything/everything we wanted to do. It's more of a culture thing, but it is an extremely cash intense place. While safe, the need to carry around tons of cash because of the lack of acceptance of other forms of payment (credit card, for instance) made it a little cumbersome.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Our family of 14 enjoyed every minute at Casa Royal. We had a wide range of ages in our group, and all had an equally amazing time. The proximity to the beach, the market and other nearby activities was great. And what can I say about our chef, Rita. She is very talented and provided a restaurant quality experience with a soulful and heartfelt touch. She made our trip the memorable experience it was. Not a thing.

Stayed Jun 22, 2024Best vacation ever! The staff, concierge and drivers were amazing. The house and yard are lovely. We really enjoyed the pool and sunsets on the veranda. I love that it was so well stocked with everything from kitchen basics to hair dryers. The two washers and dryers were put to good use. But the very best part was having Rita feed us two delicious meals each day. Better than ANY restaurant.
