The Space

This gorgeous modern desert home features an open one-room floor plan and full-wall windows to the East and West for a light and airy loft-living feel.

Guests will enjoy the brand-new queen bed & luxurious memory foam mattress, and the large sectional couch pulls together into another queen size bed. A plush air mattress is also available for groups exceeding four guests.

The detached luxury bathhouse is an oasis of calm with a stunning view of the mountains from the luxurious resort-style soaking tub. Marvel at the sunset from the tub as the desert melts away all the stress and cares of your everyday life.

Enjoy a wondrous hike in Joshua Tree National Park, come back and cool off with a memorable ‘en plein air’ outdoor shower, then curl up with a good book and a view of the mountains or take a nap on the comfortable patio furniture.

Play your favorite music through the provided high-end UE Bluetooth speaker as you unwind on the patio, and later cook a gourmet meal in the beautiful kitchen or make a masterpiece on the brand-new chef’s grill and get ready for a stunning sunset. Switch on the resort-style fire table and revel in the beauty of the star-filled skies with an astounding view of the Milky Way that gives this graceful desert retreat its name. You’ll see why this home is so special and why the area was recently designated one of the best places in the world to view the night sky.

If you prefer a wood campfire, there is a well-stocked fire circle a few steps from the house with stunning views of the Sheephole Wilderness and Cockscomb Mountains, with comfortable camp chairs and well-seasoned local pine and eucalyptus wood for a memorable end to the perfect day. Roast s’mores or enjoy a cocktail and take in all the gifts this magical desert valley has to offer. We look forward to your stay.

Guest access

You will have the whole place to yourself, which includes the house, bathhouse, patio areas, and all the outdoor space your heart desires. There is also a beautiful 1969 motorhome on the property which is not currently in use, but will be available as part of the home rental in the coming months. The home site is 5 acres, but we are surrounded by beautiful desert land on all sides, so it feels more like 5000 acres, especially to the East, where you could walk for miles, all the way to the mountains, without encountering another soul.

Interaction with guests

We try to provide everything our guests will need for a memorable stay, and then give them the space to enjoy it. We are available for questions via text if needed for information not covered in the manual, but will not bother our guests and encourage them to just relax and enjoy and immerse themselves in the peace and grandeur of Wonder Valley.

Other things to note

Our graceful retreat has all the amenities you would expect, including a beautiful kitchen with everything you need to prepare a delicious meal (except the food). Plush towels and linens, bath, hand and dish soap and conditioning shampoo are all included, as well as books on the area, and a variety of board & family games, free WiFi, a dynamic Bluetooth speaker to listen to your favorite music or movie, and coffee and tea & creamer to start the mornings off right. The tap water is drinkable municipal water which is then filtered again by our whole-house filter, but if you prefer bottled drinkable water, we provide a few small bottles per stay and encourage you to bring more as needed.

The Area

The house is only 13 miles from the North Entrance of the majestic Joshua Tree National Park, one of the crown jewels of the National Park system, and by far its most popular desert park. We provide a park map and hiking guide to the park and encourage our guests to explore the park in all its glory.

The area is world-renowned for its night sky, and has been designated one of the best places in the world to view the stars. Due to the location of our home, our patios are the ideal place for skygazing.

This is also an ideal spot for scenic drives; all directions from our home yield countless stunning vistas

Also nearby is the intriguing Oasis of Mara, a natural oasis and spring, and the original home of the Native Americans that settled in the area.

Also, make time to see the Amboy Crater, a fascinating volcanic cone crater left by a volcanic eruption only 6000 years ago which borders Route 66 and is only a short half-hour drive from the house.

There are many other attractions in the area as well, including a myriad of historic desert sites and hiking trails, Twentynine Palms and its murals, the hip town of Joshua Tree, which is home to many artists and cool shops and restaurants. Also, Palm Springs and the hot springs of the low desert are just an hour and twenty minutes drive.

Relax, unwind and let the desert work its magic. We look forward to your visit!

Out in your own many acres area of desert, with hundreds of stars, and 360 degree view of mountains! Was very very cool!

The solitude and views of the sunset, sunrise and stars were great. Thoughtful and well appointed, appreciated the furniture on both the east and west sides. The patio fireplace was great The bathroom is a stand alone building right behind the home. It is accessible via the cement patio and we enjoyed soaking in the bathtub. It is all very new and very clean. We'll go back again The directions given by the owner contemplated coming for the west. Which makes sense. We came from the east and it was pretty simple.

This was a beautiful, clean and modern property perfect for a quick weekend getaway! The location was quiet, serene and private yet close to nearby Joshua tree to hike. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets which we could watch while lazing on the outdoor patio. David was very responsive to any questions and we definitely be coming back!

Had a great stay! The property was well-maintained, and David was super responsive with any questions before/during our stay. The location is great, very private and beautiful views of the mountains. The new renovation connecting the main house with the bathroom was also a nice feature

We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Our host was very attentive and available! He covered all the bases so we didn't have tons of questions. The desert house was exactly as presented and better! Loved the outdoor shower and soaking tub! The outdoor seating was so comfortable and perfect for sunrise and sunset! The floor to ceiling windows were also perfect for sunrise and sunset! We woke up to a gorgeous view of the sunrise shining in on us! We loved the 360 view and the tops of the mountains around. It was beautifully quiet and the stargazing was unreal. We loved the view the milky way and billions of stars overhead. The bed and indoor seating was very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen was well stocked and we grilled outside several nights. It was quite hot so we didn't try the fire pit but the grill and fire pit was well stocked with plenty of propane. We are already dreaming of returning to beautiful Wonder Valley!!

I absolutely loved this property (so much so that I started researching properties for sale in the area). The sunrise and sunset views from the property were just stunning and the home had everything necessary for a cozy, comfortable stay. From the soft furnishings to the beautiful bathtub, to the technology (wifi, speaker, television) everything worked beautifully. We couldn't figure out the heating system on the first day but David was wonderful in sending a handyman out to get it going while we were out hiking. I hope to stay at this property again in the summer (if I haven't bought a similar property myself by then)!

This adorable little place is very secluded and a nice getaway to reset your nervous system. Located away from other properties and city noise and lights, it is a great place to experience some peace and quiet. Away from light pollution, you can see the stars that you may have forgotten were there. In fact, you may spend the evening in awe of the night sky and have a personal crisis questioning how our culture has divorced itself from the natural world and how you have missed out on everyday experiences of Mother Nature (you know, hypothetically that's possible, ahem). Anyway, the owners were responsive to questions, and the check-in process was easy. The bed is comfortable, and it was a nice place to unwind after hiking in Joshua Tree. We plan to stay here again.

Everything we experienced was true to the photos, but definitely more breathtaking in the flesh. Property was easy to get to with wide open views. Sunrises/sunsets was facing directly in the orientation of the house so you’ll never have a bad view! If you’re looking for a place to get away from people with modern amenities, this is the place to go!

It is perfect quiet place for relax. It is not far from Joshua Tree, so you can spend day on the hiking trail and relax near camp fire in the evening, admiring stargazing. House is clean and packed with everything you may need. Kids even didn't turn on TV!=) They mostly turning on Bluetooth Speaker and played outside. They made s'more, played with rc cars or just get into the sleeping bags and wait till see the falling star. Want to say thanks again for providing place and woods for camp fire! It is so great to seat near fire, making s'more, slowly talking and looking at the stars! Hope to return there again and stay longer than just two days.
