Fishing Creek, Maryland
A step back in time with all the modern amenities you are accustomed to. Fabulous sunset views out to Barren Island and the open waters of the Chesapeake bay. Crabbing, fishing, swimming, kayaking, boating right from your private dock. Relax on the Adirondacks on the dock or at the fire pit. Walk to Old Salty's for fine dining and entertainment at the outdoor tiki bar.
The Old Bank is a perfect vacation home for one couple or three. The original bank structure was modified for residential living with two bedrooms, a bath, living room and a small kitchen in the bank vault. A second residence was later added to the waterfront side with an open kitchen, living and dining space, as well as a bedroom and bath.
The spaces are now combined but retain a distinct separation with the vault as a pass through. One couple can enjoy the waterfront section while another couple, or two (or the kids) enjoys the bank and its beautiful views of the marsh and out to back creek. Each side offers private bath and living space.
The rooftop deck is spacious. The yard is open and offers unimpeded views of Tar Bay, out to Barren Island and the open Chesapeake. You'll watch passing ships, working crab and oyster boats and the sunsets are nothing short of spectacular.
Hoopers Island is one of the last working "waterman's" islands remaining. Purchase seafood right from the local watermen or haul in your own from your private dock. Of course, you can just walk down the road a few houses to Old Salty's and let them do the work for you while enjoying your favorite adult beverage at the tiki bar.
Bring your bicycles! Hoppers Island and the Blackwater National Refuge at large is one of the very best road biking areas anywhere. Pedal north for breakfast and supplies at the general store, or pedal south all the way to the end of Middle Hoopers and enjoy sweeping views of the Honga River to the east and the open Chesapeake to the west.
Bring your kayaks! Launch right from the property and enjoy a leisurely, or vigorous, paddle out to Barren Island, North to Fishing Creek and the sandbars, South to the pass between Upper and Middle Hoopers and into the Honga. Continue for a loop around the Island or cut into back creek and take out just down the road a cross the road from Old Salty's. Paddle up to the head of the Honga and get lost in the maze of marsh channels throughout the Blackwater.
Bring your fishing and crabbing gear and enjoy world class action right from the dock or bring your boat and chase that action farther from shore. There are free boat launches at Fishing Creek and Hooperville. Our dock is set up to accommodate two or more boats safely with hold off piers (posts).
Bring your stress, your troubles, your utter exhaustion and watch them all roll away with the ebbing tide. Hoopers Island is Heaven. The Old Bank is our little slice. It can be yours too. Please note: There are two outdoor cameras located on the garage. There is also a doorbell camera.
My husband and I, plus 2 other couples stayed here for a long weekend. The place is bigger than it looks in photos, and it was perfect for us. It’s well equipped with everything you need, the location is great, and the view from the living room bay window and from the fire pit area is breathtaking! We would def recommend this place.
Stayed at this house during the Ironman weekend. It’s located about 30 minutes from Cambridge. The house is comfortable, easy to access and with a nice view. The host were very communicative and helpful during my stay.
Great spot or a getaway!
House was just perfect. Spacious three bedroom home. Located on the bay. Few houses away from old saltys restaurant. General store not to far away if you needed something. They also sell food so you can get breakfast lunch or dinner there. Dock there was great. Crabbed everyday did pretty good. Fishing was so so. Water is warm so I guess just off. Few blues and king fish. There are small croakers and spot by dock. House had honestly everything you needed. I’ve stayed on the eastern shore many times and this house is a gem. nice home. Great views. Five stars in my book.
This was a lovely home in a setting that was just right for this low key family of 3. Probably the nicest and most well equipped rental home we've ever stayed at. Sunsets off the dock are amazing. Spent a week relaxing and swimming. Owner easy to contact and helpful. Would love to visit again one day. Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful vacation! The Old Bank was unique and special. Plenty of room and comfortable furniture and lots of bright sunshine! We loved swimming, fishing, and crabbing! Very quiet and relaxing! ?
Our family (7 of us 2 children and 5 adults) decided to try something different this year and to give our grandkids a new adventure. We stayed at the BANK which is unique in itself . Kitchen was well equipped . The rooms were comfortable. The view from the window in the living room is beautiful. The dock is nice to go out whether you crab, fish or just want to sit and take in the view. We spent time outside, using the firepit and grill.
Property really needs to be cleaned
My wife wanted to experience the East shore of the Chesapeake Bay so we went on VRBO to search. After some time we found a very nice house in Fishing Creek on Upper Hooper Island. Karen, the owner of the house, was very responsive and made us feel welcome. Everything was ready for us when we arrived. The house is very clean and well provisioned. The kitchen contains all the utensils needed for cooking, the livingroom has a nice sofa and easy chair for relaxing while watching TV, and each room has at least one ceiling fan. The air conditioning cooled the house very well and was welcomed because of the heat wave we experienced. The living room and each bedroom has its own TV with Roku. I did like that after a long day of relaxing. There is also a dock for you to use on the Bay. My wife and I enjoyed a couple of nights on the dock with a glass of wine and watched the sun set. The Harriet Tubman museum is just a short ride from the house. I highly recommend visiting as it is very well presented. You can also visit Vintage Books and Fine Art in Cambridge. It’s a wonderful bookstore with a very knowledgeable proprietor. The town contains some shops and an art museum and is very charming. So, you are looking for a house on the Eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay I recommend this one. My family and I had a wonderful time
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful location on the Chesapeake Bay. The house was large, comfortable and accommodating for our family of 4 that included 2 teenagers. We loved fishing off of the dock and watching the sunsets. Old Salty's Restaurant and Bar was within walking distance. The general store was perfect for picking up supplies and food. Definitely a birders paradise with Blackwater Nature Preserve nearby. We also learned that this area is close to the Underground Railroad.
The communication with the property manager and check in was very good. The location on the water and view were beautiful. I would have given a higher overall rating but the property could use a lotta love. We rent many places through VRBO and rental agencies, and this rental needs a deep cleaning and decluttering inside, and a good clean up in the yard. Also, My husband and I never rent properties that are pet friendly due to allergies. On the overview of the property it says, no pets; however we picked up several fur balls while we were there.
Our 4 day's was wonderful and the house is amazing. The teenage boys loved having there own space. They fished and crab. We didn't catch a whole lot becauae the bay was a bit rough. We did enjoy our time and will go back again. If i could make one suggestion since Maryland is know for their crabs, i s maybe some utilities and a table outside for the ? ? ?!
Fantastic house in a beautiful area.
This house was perfect for a getaway weekend! The dock was great for sitting and relaxing. The house was cozy and charming. We loved the Blackwater Refuge!
The house was beautiful and steps away from everything. We brought our boat and kept it at the dock. Communication in advance and during our stay was outstanding. The house had everything we needed and more!
Very clean, great owner, excellent location. We will absolutely be back, thank you for giving us a great spot to call home for a few days!
My husband and I came to Hooper's Island for a short getaway. The Old Bank was perfect- beautiful location, perfect amenities, and the owner was very responsive. Looking forward to coming back!
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. The house was nice and quiet, we enjoyed the water, pier and fire pit. The host was extremely helpful and responsive. We couldn't ask for anything more. Alot of history with this place, very unique home that we enjoyed. The area is great, the people are extremely friendly. Great little stores. Woolford's had really good french fries. The crab cakes, drinks and oysters at Old Saltys right next door was incredible. We can't recommend it all enough.
