The amazing location of this property is spectacularly let down by the dated shabbiness of the apartment. The colour scheme of orange and way too much brown, made me not want to spend any time in the place. It also felt very claustrophobic. Also in this modern age, you should be able to use more than one appliance without blowing a fuse, which did happen. I did like using a code to get in, and the owners were easy to contact for any problems. The bed was great. A small investment in this property would make this a great place to stay. The electrics definitely need an upgrade.
My husband and I enjoyed our stay. Property and area are beautiful, great views and very comfortable. Loved relaxing on screened porch. Only restaurant Old Salty's on island is an easy walk, food was good, great drinks and outside area. One small grocery store, so make sure to bring everything else you need for meals.
What a great getaway. If you want to be in a quiet place with no distractions but have access to lots of things to do, this is the place.
Perfect spot to rest and recharge and base your Chesapeake-area visit. The location is lovely, with access to both the Chesapeake (beautiful sunset views!) and the Honga River (beautiful sunrise views!). Apartment was perfect for my visit, and Debi and Steve are generous and accommodating hosts. They provide numerous amenities in this lovely and spotlessly clean space, with beautiful views of nature at your doorstep. I recommend this space and these hosts completely. Thank you for a lovely visit!
We spent three nights here. Kitchen was well supplied. Bed comfortable. Yoga mats and binoculars were a real bonus! So close to the river and the bay! Highly recommend.
Debi was very communicative and flexible. She did everything to make our stay comfortable. The apartment was cozy and well equipped. The water views were amazing on both sides!
I found it. I stumbled on that little sliver of heaven. The place to go to connect with nature and disconnect from the world. Fishing Creek is a tiny fishing town on the eastern seaboard next to the Blackwater National wildlife refuge. It’s a town on Hooper Island with the charm right out of a Harlequin book. The drive to Hooper goes along miles of farming and grass/wetlands. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Probably because… you are in the middle of nowhere. lol We stayed on a narrow stretch of the island that had about 8 houses that have both a front and back dock. Our basic but super cute studio faced the Tonga river sunrise and the Chesapeake Bay sunset. It is the smallest, quietest town I have ever stayed in. It has a couple great seafood restaurants, a marina and a general store. It’s a place where you don’t want to tell many people about because you don’t want to see it to change one little bit. On our drive in we saw two large bald eagles on top of a tree. We both got excited. Little did we know that this area is one of the largest gatherings of bald eagles on the east coast. Everyday we would try and count how many eagles we could find. We average @8 with 15 being our highest day. It was spectacular! The area is known for fishing, crabbing, miles of kayaking, hiking and biking since the terrain is so flat. If you are looking for shopping and more dining options, you are only a drive away from Oxford and St. Michaels. Thank you for sharing your studio with us. It was just what I needed. We will definitely like to return. Maybe when the swans migrate through. Now that would be amazing to see. Best, Tom and Lori Bethlehem PA
Everything was great! The bay side dock was perfect for sitting & relaxing. The welcome basket came in handy for snacks when we went kayaking or cycling - thanks for that! The area was perfect for what we were looking for & we utilized the water trails and cycling routes in and around Blackwater Wildlife Refuge. Thanks again Deborah for a wonderful stay!
If you want a quiet, comfortable and clean studio apt this is it! Great location on Hooper’s Island, which is close to....nothing. But that’s the point! Although it’s a small space it never felt cramped or crowded. The bed was super comfortable, there’s a table for dining and a futon couch for hanging out or watching TV/videos. We brought DVDs but would have been satisfied with the video library. And there’s wifi. The owners made extra effort to create a welcoming space for visitors. The screened in porch was comfortable and there are lounge chairs for hanging out by the bay (no shade in the outside spaces). We brought bikes and rode everyday, either to the end of middle Hooper (a beautiful ride along the bay where there is even more nothing) or drove to the Blackwater Nature Reserve and rode around there. Only drawback: as a vegetarian I needed to prepare my own food and the kitchen was not very conducive to cooking. Bring it if you think you’ll need it.
What a great place, I will definitely visit again.
