On the water with deepwater dock for your boat - this location cannot be beat. This cottage is located on Southport Island, a short five-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Boothbay Harbor. It is perched on the edge of Townsend Gut with water views from every room. You could easily spend the entire day watching the swing bridge open and close for the boats traveling past. Robinson’s Wharf (the island’s most popular restaurant) is a short walk away. The cottage underwent a full renovation in early 2018 and is ready for visitors!
The cottage has an open floor plan with the kitchen opening into the living room. The large bedroom has 1 queen bed and an attached bathroom. This quaint
cottage has all you need for a quiet vacation on the water.
The property is stunning with new professional landscaping and ample space for lawn games or lounging under the large trees while watching the tides rise and fall. There is a dock right on property for those who wish to bring their boat. On those busy summer days you'll hear the noise of the cars crossing the swing bridge.
Southport Island is only a 5 minute drive from downtown Boothbay Harbor – just over the Townsend Gut Swing Bridge. Southport Island is close enough to Boothbay but also has its own restaurants and sites to see. Robinson’s Wharf, Cozy's Dockside and Newagen Inn are highly recommended restaurants on the island. Hendricks Head Beach is located on the west side of the island. Sailing, boating and kayaking are spectacular activities in and around the island. If you want to venture off the island, the Boothbay Harbor Region has extensive nature trails, lake swimming (Knicker Bocker Lake), golfing, an aquarium and one of the best Botanical Gardens in the country.

**you can also rent the 4 bedroom house on the property if you need more space. VRBO listing # 1379766. Contact Kim for more info**

We spent a LOT of time sitting waterside and enjoying the boats & bridge. Kitchen was well equipped & bbq grill was perfect. The sliding doors let in tons of light and we had them open as much as possible. We had a great stay.

Overall the cottage is a sweet and charming space for 2. It is directly on the Townsend Gut. You can’t get any closer to the water. Upon arrival, our first impression is that the space is exceptionally clean and the grounds are well-maintained. The kitchen is suitable to prepare a lobster dinner. But don’t forget salt & pepper. The small bathroom is updated and adequate. We enjoyed the consistent entertainment of the boat traffic throughout the day. Including the early morning lobsterman pulling his traps directly in front of the cottage each morning. This property is close to all things in Boothbay without the chaos of the crowds. Dinner at the local restaurant 0.1 mile walk, served the typical Maine fare. A charming swing bridge is next to the cottage. Not so charming is that a bell sounds a warning when it is opening and closing for larger boat traffic starting early in the morning and well into the evening. Sadly, naps are out of the question. The swing bridge is the Southport Bridge that carries Route 27 over the Townsend Gut at the Boothbay Harbor/Southport town line within 15 feet of the cottage. There is 24/7 traffic with constant road noise. Luckily we only had reserved for 2 nights. Because of this, we will not be staying here again.

The house is very nice but in a horrible location! We could hear traffic going by at all hours 15 ft from the house and the sound of the huge bridge with grates next to the house made a loud buzzing noise that woke us up constantly. It was like sleeping in the Holland tunnel! Not to mention an average of 3200 vehicles pass by daily! The photos did not show the guardrail next to the house and the enormous 20 million bridge it is practically under. One morning the fog brought boaters at 5 am idling while waiting for the bridge. Plus there was no key for half an hour when we arrived 2 hours after check-in. It’s not insulated and the 2 heaters that worked had no timers so you had to wake up to shut them off. Very disappointing.

We chose to include the cottage with our rental of the big house on the property and were glad we did. We only had nine adults but it was great to have the extra space.

Absolutely loved the cottage, amenities, and views. The first day we arrived, it was chilly enough to need to heaters, which worked great. The rest of the time we utilized the AC units and fans, which also served us well. The views from every room are absolutely spectacular, and we also enjoyed sitting outside watching the boats and wildlife and eating dinner. It was also a quick drive to all of the Boothbay & Southport attractions. The only drawback, which the owners have no control over, was the construction on the bridge that is right next to the cottage. According to the Southport/Boothbay website, the construction was supposed to be finished by the time we arrived, but it was not. The round-the-clock, non-stop construction noise was pretty unpleasant (even with a nighttime sound machine), and the awaiting traffic was stopped just a stone’s throw away from the front door (on the other side of the fence). Overall, we loved the place but definitely wouldn’t stay there again until the bridge construction is completely finished.

The cottage was nice. Due to the weather we were forced to use the wall heaters. They were extremely difficult to control. It was either full blast (heat) or we had to shut them off.

Well equipped, small, clean Maine cabin. Views from the LR and BR were great. Watched ospreys tend their nest on the bridge. Lots of ducks, seagulls, pigeons. Watched a lobster boat drop two traps right in front of the cabin. Easy walk to a great shock side restaurant.

We had a great stay! Used the fire pit one afternoon and just enjoyed the beautiful view of the water. We had one little problem that the hosts took care of very quickly. The house is next to a swing bridge. It was not operational while we were there because they were working on it. It didn't distract from the convenience or the beauty of the location for us. It's a small cabin but was good for two people. Visiting from Alabama.

This is the second year we’ve stayed here and it was great! The bridge construction was noisy of course but fascinating to watch and the boat traffic is always entertaining. The grounds are beautiful and the cottage is lovely. Communication with the management was exceptional. We will be returning…?

Cottage is adorable and functional. Walking distance to Robinson’s Seafood Restaurant. Kayak launch from their dock. Beautiful area for kayaking and osprey watching. Not a biking destination. Is below a noisy bridge from cars traffic as well as construction on bridge. (It’s only drawback.

The location is great; right in the middle of everything and easy access to town with great dining next door. We were surprised by the close proximity to the road when we arrived but it didn't bother us when we were inside. We loved watching the boats and birds around the bridge and felt the cottage was cozy. We had everything we needed and enjoyed our time there!
