There’s nothing like Base Camp; the night sky, incredible views, wildlife — all here! The river, and usually a beach, are a short walk from your door. Take one of the kayaks, or rent a side-by-side to visit Wind Caves and Chicken Corner — at less than half the cost of in-town rentals! There are unlimited hikes from the property, and many more nearby. But if you want to get away to a quiet, off-the-grid spot, that’s here too. Some folks just sit on the deck and unwind, enjoying the landscape.

ACCESS AND VEHICLE RECOMMENDATIONS
- The road is most often mentioned in reviews, which normally end with 'it's worth it.' It is a mostly dirt road that normally doesn't require four-wheel drive, but it does need about 6 inches of ground clearance. Most SUVs, Jeeps, and trucks have that. Most sedans and vans do not. In most instances, swing wide on the corners going up and down Hurrah Pass, and if you've driven a dirt road before, you should be fine. If heights are an issue for you, there will be lots of issues up and down Hurrah Pass
- As an alternative, call Twisted Jeep in town and tell them you're coming here. They'd rather have their vehicles on this road versus some of the difficult trails in Moab, so if they can give you a good deal, they will

SIDE-BY-SIDE INFORMATION
- If you plan to use one of the side-by-sides while you’re here, there’s no reserving them in advance. The property owner has 2 six-seat side-by-sides and 8 potential rentals. They aren't available for full-day rental; a 4-hour rental costs $250. Payment is by check or cash only
- You can use the side-by-sides to go to Wind Caves and Chicken Corner, where you'll have plenty of time to explore
- The side-by-sides are not for taking to town or the other side of Hurrah Pass. They are strictly for sightseeing in the area

The ride in is ROUGH, but we stayed 3 nights so it was worth it. 18 miles in 2 hrs in our Jeep rental. Get a Jeep! And get there before dark. We got there about 20 minutes before pitch dark, tired and hungry. Tom showed us to the house, told us the necessities and continued with stories. We wanted to eat and go to bed!But he was a superb host, telling us where to hike, what to see, even serving as guide. He also transported our paddles and life vests to river and offered to shuttle us to and from...bc our Jeep got a flat. The place is AMAZING, and Tom and his stories are great too, but not when I'm tired and hungry. We loved Tom.The house was comfortable and we had a fire in the pit every night. Loved our back patio. The room temp was comfortable for sleeping in late September with ceiling fan. A stay

If you are looking for a Vrbo that is spa like, lacking adventure or find yourself high maintenance, then this place is not for you. If you are looking for epic views, a rustic charm, a quirky owner who loves to tell stories, and don’t mind a little red dust, then this is for you. The “road” or more like a path, to this location is definitely not for your mini-van or sedan. You will most certainly need a 4x4. There are switch backs, loose rocks and cliffs. There are not many, if any places to turn around. Tom, the owner, drives it at night but most people would not want to. On the drive out, it took us 1 hr 30 minutes in a Jeep. We were greeted by Tom who escorted us to our house with his little shadow Jax, his loving dog that won’t leave his side. The property had all the basic home essentials like towels, bedding, pillows, cook wear, utensils, grill, bug sprays, fans, etc. Tom gave us a hand-drawn map of the area to get to the wind-caves. We had walkie talkies available to communicate with him if needed. Of note: we starting thinking we were having a sewage problem, but turns out we just bumped the knobs on the oven and we’re releasing natural gas. They were extremely sensitive and after that we were hyper vigilant to not bump them. There are nightly hotdog feedings to wild raccoons, skunks and foxes. They just show up! There is a tortoise on property that gets fed. -bring all your food. -fill up your tank -bring your free spirit and sense of adventure

We’ve traveled with our young family all over the country, this is one of the most spectacular places we have stayed. Tom and crew do an amazing job and we will definitely be back.

Where do I start. Everything about this location and the accommodation was awesome. Yes, it’s a little challenging to get to, but totally worthwhile! We rented a jeep and that was an appropriate vehicle…ground clearance is key. The small, separate house we stayed in was great for 2 adults, 1 child. Kitchen was well stocked, we brought in all of our own food which is necessary because once you’re there you want to stay put. There are endless hikes, scrambling on rocks and great adventuring around the area. Don’t miss wind caves. Tom the owner is a delight. Very communicative. We couldn’t get over the scenery. You won’t need to go to Canyonlands Park if you stay here. We can’t wait to go back.

My 4 kids and I had a great time! It was quite the adventure. The drive over Hurrah Pass was awesome! Tom was great and super communicative. All the amenities that we needed were provided. We rented his Polaris Ranger for 2 days. If you have kids, I would highly recommend spending some time at the wind caves exploring (bring headlights). There is so much hiking that can be done right from the property. Epic disc golf course, too. We typically do not do the same trip twice, but we would definitely like to plan a return trip here. Thanks again for everything Tom!

My wife, our 9 mos old daughter and I had a great time staying at the Basecamp, yes the road out there is a little long and rough, it takes an hour to get to Moab, about 15 miles of rougher road, but totally worth it and part of the experience, We drove it in a jeep but a van or Subaru would be fine. Once you get out there all the accommodations are there, the place is pretty cool and surrounded by awesome Moab views, don’t forget to check out the stars and Milky Way at night! Tom knows the area and can help get you lined out with places to check out if interested. We would definitely stay again,

You really can't beat the location of this property if you are looking for something that highlights central Utah. Lots of fun hikes around, epic disc golf courses, unique landscape, and the property is very comfortable. Tom is great and is an excellent resource on the area. The drive is exciting but was very doable in a stock SUV with street tires.

Wow, what an incredible weekend at Last Hurrah! By far the most unique stay I have ever experienced. The home is so well crafted and the balcony looking over the Colorado river and red rocks makes for beautiful sunsets and overall incredible views. The hosts, Tom and Collin, were super helpful and communicative. They provided detailed directions/suggestions for driving to the home and making the most of the activities provided by the land - which are endless. The hosts allowed us to use their side by side to explore otherwise unreachable locations, we kayaked down the Colorado river, the hiking is unmatched and there is absolutely zero light pollution at night. Best star gazing I or my partner have ever seen. The drive in is a little rough, but it’s part of the experience. It also is the reason you can explore National park-type land without the crowds. 10/10 recommend this spot to anybody who enjoys desert life. We will be making a trip back this summer and can’t wait!

The Hurrah Pass road is not maintained by anyone. It is an off road, rutted, rocked, sandy trap. I was lucky to get out alive and in one piece. Owner portrays it as a hard pack easily driving road. This is not true. We could not turn back as after we got half way due to darkness coming. We left early next day. It took 3 hours to drive. I had to have my friend scout the road to see how deep the rock ruts were. We had to maneuver around rocks, ruts and drop offs. This is the desert in summer. 100degrees. Property was over 90 degrees inside. The AC does not work. It is a swamp cooler that roared all night. The windows in both bedrooms are inoperable. This is NOT Air Conditioning. The water in tap is from Colorado River and not drinkable. The water provided was from unknown source and stored outside in dusty gerry cans . This is not in the listing . We got full refund. VRBO is no help. They wash their hands. Check the fine print. It is up to owner. At first he was not going to refund. We contacted credit card too . Lost 2 days of our trip on this misrepresented property.
