Stayed Jun 28, 2025We had a wonderful time at They Flying Jib. The house is historic and has the charm of a home built long ago. It was clean and Kate was a great host, easy to reach and share any good places to go. It is between an hour and 15-30 minutes to get to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, depending on traffic, but it is near small little areas like Deer Isle and Brooklin is a quaint place, as well. We enjoyed our stay and recommend it.

Stayed Jun 21, 2025The “Flying Jib” was perfect for our family vacation. My 4 daughters and families came from all over the country to stay together in Maine. The house was big enough for 8 adults, two children, and one baby. I have never seen a VRBO kitchen this well stocked with dinner ware, pots and pans, and pretty much any gadget you might need. There was even a stock of spices. We managed to hit Maine during an uncharacteristically hot week. It got up to 85 and 90 which is pretty rare for June and being at the coast. There is no AC but plenty of box fans to keep the air moving and bring in the cooler air in at night. The pool was amazing and we made great use out of it. The pool needed to be vacuumed but was otherwise nice. The ocean was a short walk away and the kids had fun searching tide pools for creatures. There is a lot to do around the area as well. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are 1.5 hrs away giving us lots of options for hikes, shopping, and sight seeing. You can also get a variety of whale watches and fishing tours but beware you need to book these before you go because, as we found out, trying to find one while we were there was not happening. I also really liked Deer Isle. It’s a nice short pretty drive. Stonington is quant little town with some shops and restaurants. We ate at 27 Fathoms while there. I would recommend this property and would love to go back in the future.

Stayed Jul 20, 2024It is important to remember that this is, as stated, a traditional cottage. Otherwise, the exterior of the cottage might seem disappointing upon arrival. It is, however, reasonably updated inside and run by an exceptional host who is responsive, thoughtful and has ensured that the cottage is clean, comfortable and has all expected amenities, and more. Having a private pool in Maine, although a little chilly, was an excellent perk. Moreover, the location was perfect for freely exploring what the coast has to offer, both onsite and an easy day trip to Acadia. We hope to return!

Stayed Jun 29, 2024The location provides a short walk down to the ocean and it’s so much fun to walk out to the islands at low tide. The pool was a plus. The kitchen was well stocked (almost like someone lives there). The kitchen needed a good cleaning as did the sofa which smelled like a wet dog. Steps had dog hair as did some floors. I would call it a bit rustic, which was fine. Don’t miss Pugnuts for ice cream!

Stayed Jul 13, 2024Our family greatly enjoyed our week in this comfortable cabin. It was well-supplied with everything we needed and had plenty of living space, both indoors and out. Lots of beautiful local walks and reasonable drive to Acadia. Dinner at the Brooklin Inn was fantastic!

Stayed Jun 22, 2024We loved the house, spaciousness, and location. The kitchen was wonderfully well supplied, the mattresses were comfortable and in good shape, and the screened porch was a daily delight. The pool furniture was all high quality. Our only suggestion is that the master bedroom deck doors offer more privacy than they do now (curtains or shades). We would happily return.
