The Whee Farm is a 6 acre working farm on a quiet secluded country road, nestled in the middle of the Smoky Mountains. Our chickens lay organic, fresh eggs, our heritage breed chicks hatch twice a year, our pigs supply food for several local families and our goats provide constant entertainment. This barn apartment was newly built in 2024. We are located 5 miles from Western Carolina University and strategically located within driving distance to many hikes and the Smoky Mountain National Park!

This 600 sq foot 1BR/1BR barn apartment was built in 2024. The 16+ foot tall ceilings, numerous windows and spacious loft add openness and space to the living area. The master bedroom has a comfortable queen-sized bed, spacious armoire and designated workspace complete with desk and office chair. The couch in the living room easily converts to another queen sized bed for extra guests (we just recently added a brand new memory foam mattress for the sofa bed!)- all linens, pillow and mattress topper provided. The living room has a Roku TV for streaming your favorite shows. Board/card games and puzzles are provided for your entertainment. All linens and towels are provided. The loft space can be used as storage or as another extra living space. Currently it functions as a kids playroom with some kids toys, a rug, two rocking chairs and a large TV. Our spacious bathroom has plenty of storage shelving, a custom roll-in subway tile shower, and a beautiful floating vanity built from Sassafras wood. The full sized, well-equipped kitchen is ready for you to cook your meals and is complete with a full-sized fridge and oven/stove and a drip coffee maker with our provided coffee. There is also a hot water kettle provided if you prefer to drink tea. Outside you will find a shared patio space (shared with Apartment A) with adirondack chairs and a smokeless fire pit overlooking the farm and Smoky Mountain views- wood, fire starter logs, and roasting sticks provided.

Some considerations:

We do live in rural Appalachia surrounded by many mature trees. We do not have strong cell signal at our property (Verizon sometimes works), and personally we rely on our wi-fi calling to make calls and send messages. You will need to switch to wi-fi/ wi-fi calling upon arrival for best results. Additionally, we occasionally have storms come through that have the potential to take down trees in our neighborhood which can result in power and wi-fi outages. This doesn't happen frequently but is important to know that it can happen. When it does we work quickly to get both restored with our local power and internet companies.

In addition to this, our driveway is like most mountain roads in Western North Carolina. It is very short but a little steep at the top- we have put lots of work in to it and maintain it so that all vehicles should be able to navigate just fine on it, however those not used to mountain living may feel more comfortable taking a 4WD/AWD vehicle.

Please also note- this apartment is Apartment B which is one of two
Apartments available for rent at the Whee Farm (set up like a duplex). There is a deadbolt double door with insulation between the two of them that we are happy to open for you if you desire to rent both apartments together. Please message us ahead of time if this is something you are interested in doing.

Guests are welcome to access all areas of their designated apartment and the outdoor patio space. The barn portion of the building is off limits to guests. We would also love to introduce you to our farm and animals however ask that one of us be present with you if you'd like a tour!

You are welcome to call or text us at any time if any need arise. We also reside on the same property so you will most likely see us working (or playing!) around the farm and are welcome to connect with us there as well if desired or needed!

We use non toxic, chemical free laundry detergent to wash our bedding as well as non toxic, chemical free cleaning supplies to clean our apartments. All of our hand soap, dish soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash are chemical/toxic free as well (brands include highly rated Whole Foods and Melaleuca products).

Our farm has a sweet livestock Australian shepherd dog that roams our property and loves attention from anyone he can get it from. He is incredibly friendly towards humans and loves everyone! He does not, however, tolerate other dogs due to his livestock guardian nature, which is why we have a strict no pets policy in our apartment.

As we are a working farm, surrounded by other farms, there will occasionally be roosters crowing, dogs barking, goats maa-ing, sheep baa-ing, etc. We do provide a sound machine in each bedroom if you do not wish to hear these noises early in the morning!

We have a hired exterminator come do treatments for insects and spiders every 3 months. Please note, however, that we live in the country with lots of surrounding woods in rural Appalachia, therefore seeing an occasional spider or bug indoors can happen despite the treatments and very rarely there have been snakes outside around the property, though our chickens and cats are great exterminators for these so seeing them is quite rare!

When we arrived, we were greeted by a sweet card and gifts from the host. There were adorable sucker treats for the kids, granola bars, oatmeal and fresh farm eggs!! The kitchen was stocked with coffee, teas, creamers and sweeteners. The pantry held some good necessities and the bathroom had stock of any extra care products/items we would need. There was even a lint roller in the bedroom! The upstairs, loft area, was a hit with our 5-year-old! There was a kitchen with food and loads of cars he could drive around. He and our daughter also met Merle and they loved him! We were sad to not see him again before we left but they gave him lots of love and pets. Seeing the chickens was also a nice surprise for them. The only note to be aware of is that the top windows of the main room will let in some sunlight. It’s a beautiful wake up call, as long as you aren’t trying to sleep in on the couch. The whole weekend felt like we were at our home away from home. We had a great time and will be back next year!
