18 acres, 2 bedroom, 2 full bathrooms, cottage with over 2000' sq living space, and your own 400' of river frontage and personal swimming hole, Down across the street on our property still! Electric car charge plug on request!
Late on a summer day you watched as the shaded green hues of evening drew their veil over the valley and the setting sun highlighted distant Celo Knob. You could hear the bullfrog call to the fireflies down by the pond where the old mare had, after a last long drink, headed for a barn far off. With the windows open you had to draw the covers up to your chin during the night. In the morning you wandered down to the rivers edge with your cup of coffee in hand. As you approached, the trout scattered. Puppy couldn't resist the temptation and got thoroughly wet. The mist on the river began to burn off as the sun climbed higher in the sky. No TV tonight, instead you'll have bonfire down by the river. In no hurry, you ambled back up the driveway past acres of summer blooms and lawn, thinking I'm glad I don't have to mow. Instead, you spent the afternoon floating in an old inner-tube down the river all the way to Patience Park, someone was there to meet you and give you a ride home.
Just a few miles south of the cabin is the Mt Mitchell Golf Course, rated 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest, and voted #1 semi-private course in the region by the readers of the Asheville Citizen Times. Also right next to the Golf Course, than a half mile further away is the trail head into the Pisgah National forest, a trail that leads up to the Roaring Fork waterfall, one of the regions prettiest falls, and one of the easiest to hike to, only a half mile of old forest roadway. Mt Mitchell can be reached from the cabin by automobile in less than 15 minutes.

I was skeptical of the ratings and that this place could be that good. It is though. What a great escape.

Our stay was wonderful! The pictures of the home does not show the actual greatness of the home and the property. The kitchen was amazing and I was not expecting the largeness and openness of the kitchen and the living space. Well stocked and clean. The bedrooms and bathrooms are great and the beds are comfortable. The sunporch and back porches were very nice. Especially the mountain view from the back porch / hot tub. The property itself was beautiful and interesting. The walk/short drive down to the river was scenic and nice. Great for fishing in the fall. We didn't want to leave!

Excellent stay! The host responded quickly to our questions. The view from the house is stunning, and the river view down the driveway is beautiful as well. The kitchen is impressively stocked with cookware and basics like olive oil, salt, and pepper. The beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen made a great gathering spot for everyone.

The Overlook is well named— the view is breathtaking. This was our fifth visit, and we settled right in to our beloved spot. Though it rained until the last day, it didn’t matter! We cooked up a storm, puzzled at the gorgeous long table, visited nearby Penland School of Crafts and slightly farther Asheville, and lounged for hours in the deep, soft leather sofas with our books. Hot tub for some, naps for others, and when the sun came out we sketched and watercolored to our hearts’ content. Though this cabin was spared, Helene hit the area hard, and there were sobering reminders everywhere we drove; but we were glad to contribute in a small way to this beautiful part of the world.

The location was perfect for us — just a short walk from our daughter’s house. The place was peaceful with a great view of the mountains. And we loved the big kitchen, with all that we needed for cooking meals.Gary, the property manager, was responsive when we needed help figuring out the heating system and gave us good advice about keeping the pipes from freezing. We would stay there again.

We had another restorative week—this is a welcoming and comfortable spot for reading, puzzling, and cooking big dinners—and most importantly for enjoying the many moods of the mountains.

This was our 3rd or 4th stay at the Overlook, so clearly we love the place. The view, the hottub, the swimming hole, and the kitchen are the biggest highlights. The driveway is steep but no problem for our Subaru, and very much worth the climb. We are sad to leave but very much hope to stay there again!

I stayed with my 2 daughters (age 11 and 13). We love Burnsville. We stay on the Toe at least once a summer. Stayed at different houses. This my favorite. It's not redone. It's dated and a little worn inside. Kitchen has everything you need. The view is great. Pure mountain views. These views are without other houses or vacation homes. The view is the BEST. Location on the Toe River is also great. An actual swimming hole is in the river, The Toe river is the star of the show for us. You can swim or tube.

House with character and amazing view of a mountain range to watch the clouds roll in and out with amazing sunsets sometimes. The river is great too, wildlife everywhere.

This was the second time we stayed at this particular property. We love the seclusion and the view of Celo Knob. The fireflies and stars at night are beautiful. There is a nice swimming hole down on the south toe. We would love to see a roof built back on the porch so we can enjoy that area during rain showers. We would stay here again in the future.

This place is semi secluded and beautiful! Access to the river was amazing. I needed some time away from city life in Florida and this was the perfect place to do it. We truly enjoyed our stay!

It rained a lot when we were there, which was a new beauty we hadn't previously experienced. We always just hang around the area because I have an older dog who gets exhausted walking to the river and back. Lots of reading, nature studies, picturesque scenes and tranquility (and amazing humans when we did venture out!).
