Boone, North Carolina
The quintessential romantic mountain getaway for two!
The Dog House is privately situated on 300 feet of beautiful rushing creek and wooded trails, yet is conveniently located only 4 miles from downtown Boone and ASU, 6 miles from Tweetsie Railroad, 9 miles from Blowing Rock, and only 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The poplar logs used to construct the Dog House were cut, dried, milled and then assembled by only two men using a handmade boom and pulley system attached to a huge tree. Later, the cabin was renovated by a professional designer.
The living area features a huge wood burning fireplace with a very unique burl maple mantle. Limited seasoned firewood is provided onsite. A Bose surround sound DVD/CD/VHS/AM/FM entertainment system with HDTV with Roku streaming services and SlingTV for regular programming may be experienced from the living and dining areas and kitchen. High speed 10-mg Internet is provided along with all digital cable channels except pay-per-view. There is a new 42" widescreen LCD TV on the mantle as well a collection of books nearby.
A King size bed provides sleeping accommodations on the upper level with a full bath with a newly tiled shower. Expanded basic remote controlled cable TV provides bedroom entertainment. This eclectic high-tech cabin is accented with antiques, quilts, original artwork and photographs. You'll find wonderful details such as kitchen tile imported from France and antique architectural plaster molds hanging above the fireplace and in the kitchen.
The deck is as large as the cabin itself and features a gas grill and Hot Springs spa with moto massage. Stairs lead from the deck onto trails along the creek and through the woods. A stone firepit with Adirondack chairs awaits you by the creek, where you can relax and enjoy the expanded views of the waterfalls and creek.
The Dog House gained its iconic name from “Rubberdog,” the cabin's canine occupant who lived in the home at the end of the 20th century. Rubberdog gained his name after going under both left tires of an SUV in 1997 and sustaining no injuries aside from a small laceration. Years later, Rubberdog again preformed an amazing feat. Just before Christmas 2004, he went missing. After several days and countless attempts to locate him, the heartbroken owner suspected the worst. On Christmas Eve however, the owner received a call from his neighbor who lived across the creek. After returning home from a family visit, she discovered Rubberdog in her upstairs bedroom. Apparently, he snuck in while the neighbor packed for her trip and had survived alone in a single bedroom for nine days with no food or water. Other than losing a little weight, he was still in great health.
It seemed fitting to name an outstanding cabin in honor of one amazing dog. So when your friends ask where you are headed for your next vacation, let them know you're staying in “The Dog House".

The design and decor of this home is beautiful, and a very peaceful place to bring the dogs for a visit to the mountains. The creekside firepit in particular is a highlight and we look forward to visiting again when there isn't a fireban. We wished we could have stayed longer, overall it was well worth it.
My husband and I stayed here for parents’ weekend at App State, our daughter is a freshman. Perfect location and just a short 10 minutes to campus. The most amazing fire pit down by the stream. We will definitely be back!
Perfect retreat for the weekend! Cozy and clean!
The creek behind the property was beautiful.
Pleasant stay. Rustic house. Bedding could be replaced, but no other complaints. Very dog friendly place!
Great place to get away where it’s quiet.
Loved the hot tub and creek side fire pit! Great little retreat in the woods with our four legged friend.
The home was very private and had a beautiful stream behind it. The outside of the home needs to be cleaned and my only complaint was the mattress was very firm and thats not what we're use to. Hot tub was very nice.
This was a perfect property for a short weekend getaway for my wife and I, along with our 10 year old lab. The house is very comfortable, has an awesome outdoor fire pit next to a creek on the property. The location is convenient to a short trip into town(10-15 mins). We would definitely consider coming back for another weekend. 5 stars
Nice, quiet, cozy location for two people. AWD/4WD a MUST in snowy or icy conditions. Unpaved, hilly access road and steep driveway! Would have been nice if rental company cleared upper level entry walk to make it easier to enter/exit house from the access road. Driveway is gravel, but was not cleared, so very slick with packed snow and iced over. Nevertheless, we enjoyed and may come back in Spring or Fall when everything is more easily accessable.
