This beautiful 3-acre property, once the Swisher Farm, is today a working homestead, with dozens of chickens and a large garden. This quiet oasis is located within the city of Spearfish.

We have another rental on the property that was built by Cappie, co-host of Building Outside the Lines on Magnolia Network, as his own residence. This adorable off-grid cottage is handmade, from the bespoke front door to the custom 2-headed shower.

The rental portion of the farmhouse includes two rooms which have been recently remodeled. The white door in the kitchenette is permanently closed to homestead employees so there is no fear of surprise visitors - however you may hear us working in the basement of the house and will certainly see us outside as it is a working homestead!

The entire airbnb is your space while you are staying there.

At Black Hills Experience the Granny Flats properties are are also a working homestead so guests should expect to see people around during work hours, if you have a question please don`t hesitate to track us down! Otherwise please feel free to message us through the app and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

Granny Flats is located in the old small-farm area of Spearfish, which used to be known for it`s fruit and vegetable production. Today, much of it has been converted into large lots for homes, but the small-farm feel still pervades through a few small greenhouses and farm stands. We`re located right on two bike paths, one will lead you directly to a Crow Peak Brewery, a local food market, and two restaurants down the road, and the other one will provide access to the commercial centers of town, where there are several exceptional locally-owned restaurants and breweries. You also have quick access to the gorgeous northern Black Hills, which are popular with hikers, bikers (both kinds!), and nature lovers. We are essentially equidistant from the Badlands (1.5 hrs), the Southern Hills (Mt. Rushmore, Wind Cave NP, Jewel Cave NP, Custer State Park; 1.5 hrs), and Devil`s Tower NM (1 hr).

There is a ton of room to park and turn around on the property, even if you have a trailer.

Pets allowed here! Limit 2!
This rental is on a three acre homestead that shared with two other rentals. Please be courteous of the other guests!

No smoking and no parties

This property is charming, gorgeous and quiet. We spent 3 nights there, father and son motorcycle trip. Absolutely enjoyed time and will definitely stay again.

Thank you for providing a pretty, quiet place to stay with a large area to walk and relax in. It might be good to mention that a person with mobility issues will not be able to use the toilet.

The listing mentioned a wood stove. After messaging them, we learned the stove, which we were looking forward to was recently removed. The snacks were appreciated, but there were past their expiration date by a year. Otherwise the experience was charming.

The property was beautiful and charming. The house itself was fine - the heater made a lot of noise as it ran. Seemed to be quite a bit of dog hair from previous visitors.

The overall property is very nice and peaceful. We loved having a fully fenced area for the dogs. Definitely a unique and historic property. The only issue I had was the height of the composting toilet. For me, it was a big step up and down, and I felt unsteady using it in the middle of the night. It would be nice to have a grab bar or something to help stabilize older people (like me).

Awesome host - really comfortable for couple oversized studio type accommodation. The outside grounds are amazing - have to see to believe. Spearfish Rocks!

It was really cool to experience granny flatts from the show Building outside the Lines. Chappie and sprout built some really unconventional features from the treehouse over the stream to the COB building and the rocket ship to name a few. The rental itself is an older structure but it is well maintained and we had no problems whatsoever. our two dogs loved the chickens and the enclosed area. It was a unique experience that we all enjoyed.

Quiet setting. Very relaxing. Deer in the yard every day. I didn’t realize that there was no TV. I would have brought card/board games. Also I would have made sure that my own products were biodegradable. I have skin allergies and cannot use a lot of products.I would highly recommend this place! It was wonderful!

The property was quiet and quaint. We really enjoyed that part of the visit to Spearfish. Slightly misadvertised as a house with a hot tub.Very little cookware and dishes. The coffee maker was a french press (nothing wrong with that.. we love french press coffee.) The toilet was interesting.. overall, still worth the stay.

This was such an ideal location for us and our 2 dogs. The house was charming and beautiful, and the small fenced yard was soooo nice to have for the dogs. We ran into Cappie, who was super friendly and welcoming. Location is fantastic - it feels like this idyllic spot in the middle of nowhere, but it's so close to breweries, restaurants, parks, and the rest of beautiful Spearfish. Can't wait to stay here again next time! The guidebook at the property is super helpful too!
