Stayed Sep 5, 2025House was very roomy an expectation was fulfilledWe were there for a two night stay but would love to return. My mother was born on Sugar Island and it’s the first time I’ve been back there in 40 years forgot how rural it really is.

Stayed Aug 23, 2025Beautiful location. Love the pontoon that comes with the rental. Spent more time on the water than in the home.

Stayed Aug 3, 2025Everything was excellent as it has been every year, we have stayed here. Clean, comfortable, beautiful setting and peaceful. The fishing was not as good as normal, but we had a great time anyway, as usual.

Stayed Jul 26, 2025Our family had a wonderful week. The weather was beautiful, and sitting on the back deck watching the boats go by was very peaceful. The house was clean, with plenty of household goods to take care of our family of five. We had a couple of snags while we were there, but Laurie was quick to make things right. If you're looking for a peaceful vacation spot, this is that place.

Stayed Jul 17, 2025There was a LOT going on around us. We saw eagles constantly. My wife told me she saw a beaver swim within 3 ft. of the pier. I just knew she was wrong and this was going to end up being a muskrat, but no! It was an actual beaver. This dude was a common occurrence all week! We saw loons, various kinds of ducks, blue herons, and sandhill cranes. These HUGE fish would jump clear out of the water and sound like kids jumping in when they came crashing back into the river. I couldn’t catch them to save my life, but they were in there. I would highly recommend getting a guide (early) if you plan to fish. I wish I had. I did manage one decent sized pike, but the river and lake can be a challenge to identify good spots. Make your life easier and get a guide.Want to kayak? Check out Birds Eye Outfitters. Ken set us up and even delivered them to us on Sugar Island. A bonus for us: There was a wonderful dog that would come visit us. His name is Rusty and he is AWESOME at fetch. He does have a bit of an issue chasing a moving car, but if you happen to see him, he couldn’t be nicer. Find a stick and toss it for him. We lost our dog April 2nd or he would have been there with us, so you can see why Rusty was so welcome. I am pretty sure his house was two lots west from the lake house.Laurie was very responsive when we had a slight snafu during our stay. Just a small issue with a part that needed replacement from normal wear and tear.

Stayed Jul 11, 2025The highlight was the use of the pontoon and being on the water. Unfortunately, the cabin wasn’t ready for us as we were forgotten. It was very spacious and well stocked. The cabin is in need of some TLC as well as the stairway leading to the dock. There was also some bad odour in the cabin. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but I feel it was overpriced.

Stayed Jun 22, 2025Sugar Suite is a beautiful property. Not too far away from Sault St Marie. Very clean and comfy house. Boat was as advertise but it did the trick for my angler husband and kids. Check-in was easy and getting a hold of Laurie was super easy and got a quick response. Would recommend and stay again.

Stayed Sep 20, 2024There's not much to do on sugar island other than enjoy time with each other. Cook a bunch of food and enjoy the peace and quiet. Have a campfire and if that makes you happy. This is the perfect stay. We love it at the sugar suite.

Stayed Aug 30, 2024Clean, loved being on the water! Communication with Lori was excellent! Island lost power our last night there, so we had to leave dirty dishes, but she was very understanding. This place was so relaxing. The only complaint we had was the gas grill wasn't working, but owner was not aware, hopefully this is fixed, especially if power goes out.

Stayed Aug 21, 2024We have stayed here several times and had a wonderful experience each time. The accommodations fit our group and Laurie is always a gracious host. There is a good docking spot for our boat and the launch is nearby. We plan on returning again next year!

Stayed Jul 13, 2024The house was fine and clean. Area was remote. But the ad clearly states that the house had air conditioning. When we arrived there was no outside condenser or air ducts, only base board heat and a few broken fans. The boat that was advertised was not the one pictured it was more of a floating dock with no seats. The property was adequate but I felt like we were lied to from the beginning.

Stayed Jun 1, 2024Love the view from the cottage of the St. Mary’s River. We stayed in Michigan and gazed at Canada. Comfortable three bedrooms and well stocked kitchen. We have stayed here for many years and hope to continue.
