The Space:

Following the stone path up to the front door, a spacious foyer welcomes you and seamlessly connects to the open-concept living area, with tall ceilings and flooded with natural light from a wall of windows showcasing the property's wooded views.

The living room features a woodburning stove and comfy seating, creating a cozy atmosphere within the open layout. A fourth bedroom offers a queen bed with and convenient work space for remote work. Lastly, a laundry room completes the lower level of the home.

Steepletop Lodge has been a beloved family gathering place for years, offering the perfect setting to create lasting memories with loved ones.

Guest Access:

There is a lockbox and a key inside the screened in porch. We will provide you the code during your check in process.

The Neighborhood:

The property itself offers much nature to explore, and just across the road is a reserve (also called Steepletop, after the flowers that grow plentifully in the area) with trails to enjoy.

There is so much to enjoy nearby, including candlelit dinner at the Old Inn on the Green, breakfast at the Southfield Store (also a great place for a quick coffee and picking up local provisions), and many hikes and nature spots. Not far from Southfield is Umpachene Falls–an excellent destination for hiking and swimming.

Steepletop is also close to both Sheffield and Great Barrington which have several grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, yoga, and more. You're also close to hiking and cultural institutions.

Getting Around:

Steepletop Lodge is approx. 2.5 hours from Boston and 3 hours from New York City. To enjoy the expansive beauty of the region, you'll need a car to get here and get around--and the drive will be stunning! Since cell service can be inconsistent in the country, we recommend that you download the region's online maps to your phone before your trip.

We strongly advise using or renting a car that has all wheel or 4 wheel drive to access the property, especially in the colder months.

Other Things to Note:

*NOTE: The house does not have air conditioning; however, ceiling fans are installed in each bedroom, and additional portable fans are available throughout the home.

*Please also note that two of the three first-floor bedrooms have curtains, while the third first-floor bedroom and the fourth (basement) bedroom do not have window coverings.

The home is beautiful and comfortable. Red Cottage was very efficient and stayed in close contact. We plan to book a return visit in the Spring.

This beautiful home is set deep in the country and completely private. Very clean and comfortable. A nice location for hiking, and seeing the Berkshire towns. The wonderful The Old Inn On The Green is just down the road and is a special treat for dining. Several things to note: the notes did not tell us that the GPS might default to the neighboring town so both myself and our guests drove around and around lost on a long dirt road...and were directed by GPS to enter in on a road that is very rocky and long as apposed to two other entrances that are much more driveable. This should be spelled out clearly before arrival. Our two GPS can't be the only to have this happen. Also, the door to the bathroom and one bedroom would not close shut. Very inconvenient for privacy to say the least and it took 2 of the 3 nights before it was fixed. This should not have been an issue at the rate paid. Also, as a VRBO owner myself I have a fully stocked cabinet of spices and there was not even salt and pepper at the house. Most people do not think to buy s&p at a travel home. And no baggies, foil, etc. These things would upgrade the home experience as no one wants to buy supplies. Lastly, the bedding was quite nice but the pillows on the beds are enormous and everyone woke up saying they were too thick and had a stiff neck...maybe have one of each type instead of fat only. Thank you though for a beautiful home with a wonderful setting!
