Hilo, Hawaii
Beautifully appointed historic (once King Kamehameha's private lands) 1930s estate in close proximity to beaches, Botanical Gardens, Akaka Falls, and everything HiloTown has to offer! Walk to the Wailuku River & the Hilo Bayfront in only a few minutes from our home. Also to note, New kitchen renovation as of July 2019!
Although within walking distance to Hilo town, our diverse and unique neighborhood, Wainaku, has a country feel, with lots of historic homes; it's also quiet and very private.
As we are on the magnificent Wailuku River, our property has a wonderful breeze at all times, and there are a number of beautifully stunning bird species that make our property their home, too.
Also to note: both adjacent neighbors are on 1-acre parcels, which makes our home very peaceful.
Enjoy New King and Queen Serta beds and Belgian linens, and plush cotton towels. Further toiletries include organic shampoo and unscented body lotion by Aveeno, cotton swabs, and cotton balls.
Other amenities include:
•55" LG OLED 4K HDR TV with 200+ HD movies on Apple TV, 400 MB WIFI
•High-end snorkel/beach gear for kids and adults.
•Laundry Center with LG Steam Washer/Dryer
•Two Ice Chests on wheels for BBQing and taking on day outings.
•Propane BBQ in the Screened Lanai
Over 2200 Square feet of living space with a 3/4 acre yard to relax and enjoy your Hawai'ian getaway.
Although we are on the Wailuku River with wonderful breezes, the house is also cooled with a whole house fan, and each room has a ceiling fan, too.

I love historic houses and this home was so well maintained and beautifully curated. It is walking distance to shopping and food. It exceeded our expectations.
This is a great spot for us. We have stayed here multiple times and hope to return again.
It was a great house to stay in with our family. We recommend this house if you need the space and want to be close to downtown hilo town. We will be back to stay again.
My family and I had a wonderful stay in this house. It was well-equipped with everything we needed for a weeklong stay in the Hilo area. We particularly appreciated the cooler, snorkel gear, and well-stocked kitchen. The lack of air conditioning was not a problem at all, as the whole-house fan and additional fans that were delivered during our stay helped keep the house very comfortable. Kevin was a wonderful host and very responsive. We would definitely recommend this house!
Quiet neighborhood, great home base convenient for walking into town or for exploring further afield. Extra touches of flowers, coffee, etc. were especially appreciated. We also enjoyed the eclectic collection of interesting objects/ art throughout the house. Impressive backyard lychee tree and associated wildlife!
Everything was as Kevin said…at one point we had a problem with a ceiling fan and he had a guy out the very next morning… to fix it… would come back to this house if ever back in Hilo…
Beautiful house with lots of character and amenities. It was the perfect place to stay with my wife and our family for a trip to Hilo.
My family and I came to Hilo so I could run the Big Island International (1/2) Marathon. The house was a quick drive to the start/finish. We loved being able to walk downtown (past a beautiful waterfall), especially since parking can sometimes be hard to find. We also loved having so much space to spread out, the peaceful setting, the juicy tangerines from the front yard, the screened in lanai, nice easy parking, great laundry/drying facilities, and a big well-stocked kitchen - we ate most of our meals at the house. Based on a few past reviews we weren’t sure about the downstairs shower but everyone actually preferred it! Kevin was very quick to respond and very helpful. We especially appreciated being able to leave our luggage for several hours after we checked out. This is a great house/yard/location and we’d love to return.
The home is very clean and very comfortable! The antique furniture is beautiful. The property is beautifully landscaped with amazing flowering plants and fruit trees. The owner was very attentive and left a bowl of tangerines and starfruit from his yard out for us. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
We used all of the space, for the five of us, the kitchen was perfect for meal prep, The outdoor lanai for happy hours and the dinning room for thanksgiving dinner was just right, Avery small thing that would have been nice is a table cloth , but no big deal
This was my families second stay in this beautiful Hilo home. I used to live in Hilo and this is my go to house when I come back to visit. The house is beautifully decorated and is stocked with everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is the best stocked kitchen of any vacation rental I’ve ever stayed in. They went well beyond the basic necessities, which I appreciate. The yard is gorgeously landscaped and even has a distant view of the ocean from the back porch (new since our last stay). If I ever had the chance to buy this house I would seriously contemplate it. I absolutely love it! It’s classic Hilo. Also of note is that it’s located within walking distance to downtown but feels like your nowhere near town. Quiet neighborhood.
Lovely & clean house with well stocked kitchen. We especially enjoyed sitting in the beautiful yard/garden and picking fresh limes!
The home was immaculate: clean and comfortable. The location was perfect: close walking to Hilo downtown and driving distance to tourist places. My friends and I stayed in Kevin's home and we loved it. It was beautifully decorated with extra ammenities and well stocked. We were very comfortable and slept well. It was above and beyond our expectations. The owner clearly cares about his guests. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. We felt like we were in paradise!
This was my second time staying here and I hope to return again soon. Well stocked with everything we needed. Beautiful landscaped yard. I loved sitting at the dining table looking out at all of the beautiful plants.
The best location, 3 minutes from downtown Hilo. Also so convenient for visiting the falls and botanical gardens. The house is charming, even better in person, we all loved the details that made us feel special. Thank you.
Pictures don’t do this house justice! The way it is furnished is truly beautiful! We really enjoyed our stay and loved that the kitchen was stocked for cooking. The lanai was perfect and the landscaping was beautiful. We walked to town multiple times and enjoyed the close proximity!
We loved everything about it. It was the perfect configuration for us, had all the amenities we needed and wanted, was close to town in a great spot. And it is decorated beautifully. We are college art teachers and we loved everything from the bed covers to the garden to the decorative items in the cases in the house. Just the best!
Nice, clean home, and great property. Landscape was amazing!
We had the best time staying here with our family. The home is very charming and was spotless. I've never seen a kitchen or bathroom as well stocked as we did here. We even enjoyed some of the snorkel gear we found. There were a few friendly lizards in and around the house, but nothing that bothered us. We really loved the sound of the frogs at night. It's also a great location to explore Hilo, Volcano National Park, and anything on the east side of the island. We hope to return again.
This is a beautiful, old, quiet neighborhood property. The garden has some spectacular plantings, the screened in porch is a delight. Kevin was so very kind, helpful and responsive during the entire process. The kitchen is new, both kitchen and bathrooms were very well stocked, a new washer and dryer and very comfortable beds. Thank you so much for providing this home. Mahalo.
