Milford, Delaware
'THE IGUANA HOUSE'
Located in South Bowers Beach Island directly on the beach and located at the widest point of the Delaware Bay, approx 28 miles across to NJ, this Island home offers something very special that the large resorts don't have, peace and quiet.
Step right onto the sand from this beautiful beach home. If fishing is your thing, cast your line into the water and fresh fish are yours for breakfast or dinner, fishing license required.
You can put your small boat or kayak in the water right off the beach and explore local tributaries where you will find not only the serenity of a wilderness-like landscape but also many species of fish and crabs. Children can ride bikes on the quiet Island road, roller blade or play on the beach, collecting shells and sea glass and be amazed at the site of prehistoric horseshoe crabs that migrate to this area from South America.
Let the sun rising over the Bay and the sound of sea birds wake you in the morning and the gentle rustle of the Bay lapping at the beach lull you to sleep. Enjoy the 'Quiet Life', come to South Bowers Island...

Everything was perfect. The house was clean well equiped with dishes and cookware. Shopping for groceries was with in a short distance of the house. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We rescued a couple of Horseshoe crabs by turining them right side up so they could get back in the water. The week went way to fast and it was sad to have to leave. We wouldn't hesitate to spend another vacation at your rental. Thanks for a wonderful vacation My 3 girls and Me we
This property was everything that we could ask for. Extremely clean, plenty of space for a large family, and great ocean views. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience with this property and it’s owners. If you are questioning if this is your place for a awesome vacation, look no further.
This was our second year here and we couldn't be more happy! We enjoyed the sand on the beach and Margo was very quick to answer any question we may have had. We went to JP's again and it doesn't disappoint. All had a great week, we hope to be back next year! Kathy
This was a fantastic find for our family. We were looking for a beach vacation in the Delaware area but also did not want to fight the crowds. This was the perfect solution for us. The view off of the back deck was amazing. There are only a handful of other homes along this particular stretch of beach so there were no crowds at all. This made walking the beach very pleasant which we did every day. The house is clean and as advertised (actually the inside is even nicer and roomier than the pictures!) Patrick was very easy to work with and very quick to respond to a couple of questions we had during the week. There are a couple of good seafood restaurants nearby that we ate at; enjoying steamed crabs from Medings and a number of nice dishes from JP's on the Warf. I would not hesitate staying here again.
Iguana House is a wonderful place to get away from it all with all the ammenities and loads of space to spread out. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful.
This was our second time staying at the Iguana House, and it was even lovelier than the first. Of the various beach houses we've stayed at in the Delaware Bay over the past five years, the Iguana House is without a doubt the nicest. It's comfortable, up-to-date, beautiful, and well-stocked. SO nice having all the beach gear there and not having to lug it from home. The other thing we love so much about this house is the natural beauty and tranquility of the beach. There were days when we truly did not see anyone else on the beach, all day. Those neighbors we did see were so kind and welcoming! We also were fortunate to see a pufferfish who washed up on sand (we rescued him in a bucket and put him back in the ocean), a baby diamondback terrapin who hatched right behind our beach camp, and a beautiful shark that a neighbor on the beach caught and released. Not to mention the loads of sea glass and whelk shells we collected every day! This week was truly so restorative and full of simple joy. Thank you so much for hosting that, Margo and Patrick!
This house is incredibly gorgeous. The views from both sides are amazing. The photos actually don't do it justice. Very open floor plan with so much space. We LOVED the house itself. The area is very secluded and private. Our only disappointment came with the beach. We like sandy-lay out beach. Especially with our teenage kids. The beach was incredibly rocky and the water was murky and you could not see where you were stepping. So a bunch of times we stepped on horse shoe crab, turtles, etc. House has all the things you need for a kitchen. Very well stocked. Dishwasher was zapped during storm previous to us getting there so hosts supplied paper plates and plastic utensils, which was great, but still had to wash everything else by hand. It's understandable that those things happen but on vacation we did more dishes than we wanted. Places to eat... JPs was great and we found a great meal at Surf-n-Turf Grill in town. Huge amount of food. Twice we visited a Great beach that was clean and nice. It was at Cape Henlopen. Don't be afraid of the high tide if you have an SUV. We were nervous at first but if you go slow, you'll be fine. Overall, this place was so relaxing and just what our family and friends (two families with 4 teenage daughters) needed and looked forward to. Margo and Patrick are great hosts. Hope you enjoy as much as we did.
What a wonderful time! A quiet getaway where the grandchildren could play in the water, we also saw a lot of fireworks for the fourth.
This home is exactly as described in the listing. It was very clean when we arrived and had all of the advertised amenities plus a couple of extras. Our communication with the owners was great prior to our vacation, and we actually had a chance to meet them after we arrived. They truly care about the condition of the house and do all they can to ensure a great experience for their guests. The are is quieter than most vacation spots, but the town of Milford is only 20 minutes away. In spite of the many warnings about the tides my Toyota RAV4 made it through easily at high tide, and we saw a mini van come right behind us.
So glad I found this house for my family. The location was just perfect if you're not in the mood for the hustle and crowds of Rehoboth. The house was so clean and the decor was beautiful. The views from the front porch and back were always picturesque. The only thing that was bit of a let down was the actual beach. My son refuses to wear water shoes, and the beach is some what rocky. Other than that this house was amazing and we would be back!!!
We had an amazing stay. The open layout of the house was perfect for us with our family able to all hang out in the space. Extremely clean and great communication
This was the second time we stayed at this property for race weekend. We feel like it is home and can't wait for next year. Very clean house with plenty of amenities.
