Croghan, New York
Located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in Croghan NY this Adirondack Vacation Rental destination is sure to please anyone!
The historic schoolhouse offers 3 relaxing bedrooms, 2 full bathroom, a full kitchen, reading alcove, and many guest amenities. With cherry hard-wood finishes and a spiral stair case highlighting the cathedral-ceilinged living room, this is not your average vacation cottage.
Care was taken to preserve the history of this building which at one time served as a church and later as a schoolhouse for Belfort. With a nod toward the history of the building, decorative glass windows were selected by the architect and the original flooring was restored to a new shine. In addition modern comforts like radiant in-floor heating and solar thermal domestic hot-water were implemented to meld the old and new in a complimentary way.
Just 1.5 hours north of Utica and 2 hours from Syracuse the Old Belfort Schoolhouse offers a quiet respite from the modern world. For those seeking a get-away that is something different than the crowds of Old Forge, this accessible Adirondack vacation rental offers wonderful access to the best of the Adirondacks with the comforts of a beautiful home to stay in.

Loved the house will definitely be back already looking for winter getaway in the house owners very friendly
Our family loved our stay at the school house. Marianne was helpful and Troy stopped by more than once to replenish the wood stash and check if we needed anything. We kept the wood stove roaring and cooked homey meals in the well-stocked kitchen night and day. We ventured out for a hike near Fine, took some other woodsy strolls nearby, and even tried out the bar up the road. The house was perfect! Comfortable beds, cleaner than we ever imagined possible, cozy, and well-equipped with everything we might need. Highly recommend!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Old Belfort Schoolhouse! The house itself has been completely renovated and is stunning but is still very comfortable for guests. We were there in the Fall and were able to enjoy the changing leaves and hot tub during the chilly nights. This is a perfect location if you are looking to ATV or go snowmobiling. You can leave right from the property to hit trail access which was great. The owners are very pleasant, incredibly responsive and take wonderful care of the property. Great location if you are looking for a fun outdoors vacation. We would definitely recommend staying here!
My wife and I were looking for a weekend getaway from Rochester, NY for our anniversary, and this was just the place. The house is definitely recently renovated - from the kitchen to the windows to the bathrooms, everything. The bed was comfy enough, kitchen was well appointed and stocked with utensils and cookware. The hot tub, where we spent the majority of the weekend, was wonderful - private, spacious, and close to the house. There are some fantastic trails nearby, and we got there for peak leaf season which made it even more beautiful. Some things to note for future bookers (not necessarily negatives): The fridge was BARE - we planned out all of our meals and brought everything needed, but in the past some HomeAway houses had things in the fridge that have longer shelf lives, but this one had nothing. Plan to bring every food item you need to cook. When/if we return, we'll be bringing our own knives as the ones in the kitchen were very dull - again we cooked every meal we ate, so we used them a lot, and it's not a big deal just something to know. Lastly, we forgot to write it on the box, but the house puzzle is missing one piece! Thanks for an amazing rental, we look forward to returning.
From the very first minute, talking with Mary Ann, we knew we would enjoy our stay. We were able to park our trailered ATVs right at the house and tour the area on them, literally from the doorstep. We only drove our ATVs, which left us with minimal selections for stores and restaurants. However, it was great meeting the locals and spending some time with them. We had some great meals at the Harrisville Rod & Gun Club. Even closer was the Belfort Inn. It is only a few yards away from the house and they had a decent menu (bar food). Other days, we cooked our own dinner. The home was very comfortable for the two of us and will definitely return sometime with our friends. The bed was nice and I appreciated the upgraded sheets and towels. We even were able to enjoy the hot tub a little.
we enjoyed staying at the schoolhouse. It was very unique and we loved the decor. There is not cable tv. They do have netflix. But, it was just what we were looking for...quiet and relaxing. My husband fished and I read. The kitchen was well stocked. The beds were very comfortable. There is no bathroom on the second floor and no bathtub just showers. But, overall, it was a beautiful place. No commercialism just a relaxing vacation.
Our family enjoyed our stay at the Belfort School House. It is a beautiful place and has quite an interesting history. We came from out of state to attend a family celebration and the house suited us. Our teen kids went kayaking and swimming. The kitchen provided all the necessities and more to cook and eat at home. Mary Anne is wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating and full of great tips! My only heads up…the bathrooms are downstairs. So, it made it a little challenging at night for my elderly mother who slept upstairs. We were able to keep the lights in the kitchen on at night, so it worked out. I would certainly stay here again and recommend the Belfort Schoolhouse!
I rented this house for my fiancés 30th birthday and it was amazing! From the moment we arrived the owners/ managers were awesome and so friendly...even took the time to show me a few local spots for swimming, fishing, and kayaking. We rented kayaks and went for the first time which was great. When we arrived the camp fire was started and the tiki torches were going. The hot tub was great as well...oh and I have not even mentioned the house. The house was beautiful and modern. I was so concerned we would not have what we needed and honestly I packed way too much because everything you would need in a kitchen was there as well as plenty of towels. Beaver river (located behind the house) is without a doubt the most beautiful river I have seen and the little town (5 minutes away) had everything we could have needed. Just awesome...only regret is we did not stay longer. I am a tough critic and I have to say NO complaints here! We are hoping to make this an annual couples retreat and even return with the kiddos:)
The house was beautiful and very relaxing. Wish we could have stayed longer and can't wait to go back. Thank you to Mary Anne and Mike for letting us enjoy their amazing home.
Great property. Very comfortable. Loved every minute of it.
Unfortunately, we only got to stay at the School House for two nights as we were there for a wedding, but we loved every minute of it. The house is immaculately done with amazing architecture and everything you will need. MaryAnn (owner) has the house stocked with everything you could need. The yard has a big hot tub, fire pit and tiki torches plus a grill. At night with the windows open, you can hear the Falls which is soothing. We brought our dogs and it was perfect for all of us. We hope to be back again next year when we visit our newlywed friends. Thanks MaryAnn for everything.
