Stayed May 23, 2026House was clean. Back yard was a little overgrown and could use some attention and up keep. The Area where the Boats are stored was a mess but they were usable. Watch out for ticks! Pool area needs some attention and a good cleaning, but it was ok and we used it everyday. They have parking passes for the beaches which was great. Overall we really enjoyed our time here.

Stayed May 9, 2026This home was perfect for our family. Much more room than we needed so it was great. Secluded, yet near everything. We loved it and hopefully will be back - it was on the market, so we're unsure.

Stayed Apr 12, 2026This property has a very spacious feeling due to the Eagles Nest which expands the space upwards and also the enclosed large deck; this deck overlooks the Sound below and is so peaceful. This area extends from the living area and provides additional room for meals etc. It also has a fabulous , very solid bed/hammock in which to relax. We stayed off season so the dock was not assembled and the Sound was pretty murky so we did not avail of the kayaks, but I can imagine how great that area could be. There is a 'secret' path nearby which leads directly down to the sound and a small beach area! Comfortable beds all round. Our 'go to' restaurant has always been the Rundown in Southern Shores and NC in Duck for unbeatable views and sunsets. The Quinns, NJ.

Stayed Dec 25, 2025We stayed two nights out of the six I paid for. The second night the roaches were visible. I contacted the owner who agreed to give me a partial refund but I haven’t heard anything more about it. The house was very nice but my daughter is allergic to roaches. I spent the rest of my time off cleaning everything we had with us to ensure we weren’t taking roaches home with us.

Stayed Nov 9, 2025We loved the big porch and rooftop deck overlooking the woods and the canal. Kitchen was well appointed, as were the bookshelves and games cabinet. Having the master bedroom on the main floor was awesome for our mom who has mobility challenges. We loved the hosts' decor & style and felt right at home. Communication with host was excellent and most accommodating. We look forward to returning to Second Nature!

Stayed Oct 11, 2025It was a very spacious house. The kitchen was well stocked with any kind of utensil. Or PAN or pots that she might need. Love the screen in back porch. The neighborhood was beautiful, close to a lot of things. The house was very dog friendly, but neighbors have dogs. So please be sure and keep your dog on a leash and don't let them go in the back because there's a lot of the little huckleberry, things that get stuck in their Fur and our dogs came back with tons of them, the weather didn't really cooperate with us being out. On the canoe, in the canal or anything The owner kept the pool in very good condition. Although again, the weather did not make it to where we could use it. The owner was very accommodating and very responsive. To any need that we had would suggest this for a family with pets anytime.

Stayed Sep 13, 2025Second Nature is a nature lover's dream. We saw deer eating berries around the property on the daily, as well as Osprey and other sea birds flying over. The house itself is amazing and is stocked fully for your every convenience. We enjoyed playing pool in the gameroom, but our favorite spot was definitely on the screened porch. Day or night. It's high vantage point made for amazing views and an inconspicuous way to watch the wildlife. The swing was amazingly relaxing. Also, being pet-friendly was amazing. We always travel with our 2 furry friends. The beach access is easy to reach at the end of the road, and is very private. The tennis courts are even closer. As we toured lighthouses both north at Currituck and south at Cape Hatteras, Second Nature was in the perfect location for us, close to in the middle!!Highly recommend, and we will be back.

Stayed Aug 30, 2025We had a great time staying at Second Nature! We loved the nature feel of the property while being a mile from the beach. The house had everything we needed for beach trips, fun things to do, and to accommodate a toddler and baby.

Stayed Jul 12, 2025First and foremost, 2 of us were sick all week with a sore throat and stuffed up. Our last day we found black mold on the basement ceiling and in the skylight upstairs. They advertise kayaks and a telescope. Neither of which we could use. The owner basically told us too bad.Told the owner all the batteries for thw remotes were dead, never heard a response on that. Paid a fee for linens and got an email after everyone was already en route that towels werent included. So we had to go out and buy all new towels for everyone. Not to mention dish towels. Weeds over ran the place, and you had to check for ticks daily. Having said that, the house itself was very nice and the pool was great. Everyone had a great time, but we got the house to use the kayaks, and ended up spending more money to rent them. Wouldnt go back.

Stayed Jun 14, 2025Our family loved this property! It felt secluded enough that we felt like we had a decent amount of privacy yet was close enough to Duck and Kitty Hawk to shop and eat! We LOVED the pool - a perfect way to cool down on a hot day! The pool table/ping pong table and board games were a perfect way to spend evenings. I cannot recommend this property enough and I truly hope we can stay next summer!

Stayed May 31, 2025Beautiful place. Great views from porch in back. House was fully stocked with stuff from baby gates to stuff for the beach. We had a wonderful time. Kids loved the pool. Only down fall was the ticks but u are in a wooded area so that is to be expected. Had a water issue mid week however host was super kind and fast at getting it taken care and paid for our dinner that night out. Would definitely stay here again.

Stayed Oct 19, 2024Being that it was late October and pretty much the end of the vacation season some of the issues we encountered were understandable. The property was easy to find. located a short drive to Duck and Kittyhawk. The neighborhood was very quiet. When we first entered, we noted a mix of musty/bleach odor and a few dead palmetto bugs on the floor. The rooms were decorated nicely. The beds were a little too soft for my liking and a bit worn in. There were plenty of blankets for the colder nights. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and was organized. The living room/dining room was very comfortable. We enjoyed the screened-in back porch and the oversized porch swing was awesome. The game room had a ping pong table/pool table that was in decent shape. We saw lots of deer and birds from the balcony. The observation deck did not provide views of the ocean. Best we saw was the tree tops across the street. A few of the family took the kayaks out into the canal. There is a very steep hill with awkward steps to traverse. The pool was half drained below the filter intake and we couldn't get the hose turned on to fill it so we didn't use it at all. The water was kinda greenish anyways. The beach access was a 17 minute walk so we usually drove. The neighborhood beach was very clean and easily accessible from the parking lot. We thought about staying and extra day and the owner was very responsive to our messages. In the end we decided to head home as scheduled. Not terrible for the $
