Secluded Home Offers Water Access, Stunning Harbor and Island Views

My family of four and our dog truly loved staying at the Carriage House. The location is absolutely amazing! We were comfortable, close enough to anything we needed that the drive was reasonable, and had no trouble locating anything we might require within the house. We REALLY appreciated that there was bug spray supplied; Maine mosquitoes are like southern mosquitoes on steroids. We rented kayaks from Scotty's Kayak and Canoe Rentals, he delivered them to the house, and we truly enjoyed getting to go for many a paddle right from the house's backyard. I highly recommend doing this. Another recommendation I'd offer to guests is that if you are picky about your TP like we are, pick up a package of your preferred brand on your way in. Overall, this was the perfect house for our nature-loving family that still wants to be a close drive to the local attractions.

Loved everything about this place! We spent every evening sitting by the water & enjoying the view. Seen bald eagles & loved watching the seals. The place was so clean & exceeded our expectations for our first trip to Maine.

Host provided excellent directions to her rental. The amenities were spotless and generous.

The location of this rental was phenomenal: you down a private road to the Mt. Desert Narrows. This is a lovely, quiet spot outside the hubbub of Bar Harbor with lots of loons and harbor seals in the vicinity. The house is clean and comfortable with field guides and a set of binoculars which you will want to use to view the wildlife on the shore and the water. The kitchen is small but kitted out for cooking and dining in. Wifi was reliable. We did not use the TV, Dish network, or DVD player so I can’t comment on how well those systems work. We especially appreciated the great views from the living room, dining nook, and primary bedroom downstairs. It was lovely to wake up in the morning with a view of the water and ledges in the bay. It was too chilly and windy when we were there to eat outdoors, but there is a nice picnic table in a good location for appreciating the water views during warmer weather. I would stay here again.

My friend and I loved our stay in this carriage house. It was easy to find yet very secluded. A perfect base to explore the island. Property was very clean and well maintained. The balcony over the bay was a perfect place to watch the weather change over the beautiful bay. The manager was very prompt in answering the few questions we had.

The Carriage House is our favorite place to stay in Maine. The location is fabulous, the house is quirky and comfortable, and the deck is right on the water with a great view of Green Island (also owned by the Kales). When we were there in September, an osprey was in the habit of perching on a dead limb just around the cove until a bald eagle chased it off. A kingfisher was also active, the seals were on their rock, and we saw and heard a loon. Perfection!

I stayed there with family and friends, and it was great for our needs - whenever we were not adventuring around in Acadia or downtown Bar Harbor, we were hanging out in the lovely breakfast nook or watching for wildlife on the beautiful back porch. We brought our son's telescope from home and were able to watch the seals every day. We also had two bald eagles hang out about 100 feet from the porch one morning - our son loved it. Downtown Bar Harbor was only a 20 minute drive away. Our only critiques of the house were that the upstairs bathroom and spare bedroom could do with some updating to match the rest of the house (I might have been very jealous of our friends who stayed in the larger 1st floor bedroom which is absolutely stunning) and the wifi was very touch and go. If we ever vacationed in Bar Harbor again, we would definitely come back again - though I would insist that it was my turn for the first floor bedroom!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at this cute rustic getaway on the water. We were fortunate enough to meet the owner and listen to the rich history. The view was just awesome. We spent all our time at the cottage on the back porch watching the seals play. We even had 2 bald eagles land near the porch that we watched one day. I would definitely stay here again.
