Rustic post and beam home rich with character. Five bedrooms and 2 full bath 2200 s/f sleeps up to 13. Cozy wood stove for heat with propane backup; a/c. Please be aware when you are booking this property that the two woodstoves are the primary source of heat for the home. The propane is merely a backup system and likely won't provide you the comfort you are looking for when used alone. House enjoys a large yard and mature woodland surroundings. Relax on covered porch or large shaded deck and enjoy the biodiversity of your secluded surroundings. Five minutes to Liberty Resorts skiing and golf; 15 minutes to Gettysburg. Property features artwork from various local renowned artists. Meander through the woods on our boardwalk to find an additional outbuilding equipped with a game room and sleeping quarters. Woodstoves are wonderful for ambiance and warmth, but please be aware when you are booking this property that the two woodstoves are the primary source of heat for the home. The propane is merely a backup system and likely won't provide you the comfort you are looking for when used alone. This year, we added a gameroom (detached building with access to home by a boardwalk) with additional sleeping quarters. Gameroom is equipped with board games, puzzles, pool table, ping pong table and poker table and a double bed and queen bed as well as a small bar area. The hot tub is available at additional fee. If you are not a nature lover and would be upset by the occasional visitation of a mouse or spider, then I recommend looking elsewhere. We strive to keep the home critter free at all times, but this is a rustic home in the woods. There are no guarantees.
Our family enjoyed the peaceful location and had so much fun playing games, cooking and laughing all weekend. We would love to come back any time!
On the plus side, the house and property are secluded and quiet. The house is also well equipped, with plenty of dry firewood, and a separate game room connected by a neat board walk.....all unique. The house is definitely rustic, as advertised, and we did receive a visit from one or more mice that left their calling cards in the kitchen....not a plus, but also as advertised. The first floor location of the 2nd bathroom that serves the four second floor bedrooms is not convenient. The photos on the website are outdated. The surrounding woodlands are fast engulfing the house....not a negative if you like being closely surrounded by lots of trees. In summary, the house and property are rustic and eclectic......and both descriptors have their distinct pluses and minuses, depending upon one's tastes and preferences. The location is in a beautiful part of PA.
The hose all around was amazing. Very spacious. Plenty of room. Love the quietness of the area.Cant wait to book again
Excellent set-up with all supplies needed including enough linens for a large group and even a portable crib/high chair available. Quiet location. Enjoyable game room!
This a beautiful home with lots of space.
The house was great, had everything we needed. The host was very responsive to all or our inquiries. Even with the house feeling so isolated you are very close to some good restaurants and only 5 minutes from Ski Liberty.
This property was exactly what we needed as far as location, amount of space, layout of rooms (I'd just check with her before booking--theres a captive bedroom so it may not work for everyone?). Corinne responded quickly to all my messages and questions, and was very flexible (e.g. we had a last minute change of plans that made us need a later checkout time and it wasn't a problem at all). The house was really cool--great atmosphere, interesting design and architecture. Tons of space for our large group, lots of games and books to keep everyone busy, kitchen was well stocked with dishes/pots and pans/etc. We hope to find this available again on a future trip to the area!
We loved this house and the associated game building! It's only a 15-minute drive to the heart of Gettysburg, but the house is nestled in the woods along a quiet country road. My favorite part of the house was the large front porch, and I enjoyed having coffee there every morning; the only neighbor I could hear was a distant rooster. The house itself is beautifully rustic, with 4 bedrooms upstairs, and one huge bedroom and 2 bathrooms downstairs. One of the upstairs bedrooms is connected on both sides to 2 other bedrooms, and you have to go through one of those bedrooms to get to it, but both connections have doors if you want privacy. There's a large, shady deck out back with a table and chairs for 6, right beside the hot tub. There is a nightly fee to rent the hot tub, but we never had time to use it anyway and elected not to rent it. The game building is down a beautifully lit boardwalk that leads right off the rear deck, and it's well-stocked with games, puzzles, a pool table, ping pong, video games, a poker table, kids' toys, and a TV. No one in our party slept in the game building, but there were 2 beds upstairs and a couch downstairs that could have been used. The only reason we didn't spread into those sleeping quarters was that there's no bathroom in the game building, but we did spend a lot of time playing pool and ping pong. There's also a table and chairs on the front porch of the game building, and a fire pit with chairs out in front. The house was homey, and the kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed, including some basic spices, paper towels, dish soap, and a fresh dish scrubber. Plenty of TP in the bathrooms, and tons of towels, which you don't always find in rental homes. Corinne was fantastic, calling the day we checked in to see if we needed anything. I was happy to meet her one day when she called to see if it would be OK to drop off some new goodies for the house; we never had any problems, but I'm sure she would have fixed anything promptly if we had. The closest store is a Dollar General, but we found a wonderful Jubilee grocery store a few miles away in Emmitsburg. We had pizza delivered one night from Pizza Leone, and it was amazing. We also took a horseback tour of the battlefields, a ghost tour of the Jennie Wade house, and a double-decker bus tour of the battlefields; all were fantastic experiences! I would definitely stay at this house again!!!
The property's natural setting is an amazing plus. The wooded area is very impressive and isolated, other than the sound of the birds. The house is like a wood cabin and rustic, where you have to let the environment grow on you, along with all the attributes that go with that. A nice break from the typical city sights and hussle.
Don’t fear the wood stove heating system. It was on for us upon arrival and easy to maintain warmth. Does take about 1 hr to warm up the game room down the boardwalk in 18 degree weather, though. Hot tub was perfect. Owner was attentive and gave us some history about the house which made it feel extra homey. 5 min drive to Liberty Mountain.
